Just noticed this on reddit this morning, HPE appear to be changing the warranty for their Aruba networking products to End of sale + 5 years, including those like the ProCurve switches previously on lifetime warranty's. Below link has the full list of products affected. Product Warranty Update for HPE Networking Products We've been slowly moving away from Procurve switches as budget allows but not looking forward to potentially looking at replacing our "Core" switches

Hi folks, Bit of an unusla one here. On Monday we sudenly started getting issues with devices on our RADIUS authenticated network dropping off and failing to reconnect. Error logged on the Aruba controller indicates the server isnt responding. Checking the NPS config on our DC indicates all is well with the service and config. Weird bit is some clients seem to connect and are happy, and others just drop and wont reconnect. On Tuesday the issue seemed to resolve itself beofre I could get to the bottom of it. Today the problem has re-appeared. After an hour of faffing and fielding the neverending stream of calls (🤪) I disabled Sophos on the server. This has brought everything back to life. Before I log this with Sophos support throught I'd run this by her eto see if anyone else has experienced this, and what if any was the eventual solution. As ever any replies / comments greatfully received 😉 Cheers --Keith--

Hi Was wondering if someone could give us a quote for 10 x access points of the above brand or similar decent brands. We have ruckus at most of our sites, only down side is that the firmware for the zone director is quiet old and on 9.8.2 and the access points will need to support this firmware are the R700 still descent to get or outdated now. With the other brands i know that some wireless points elected a master and configure the others which is also an option or can go down the standard alone route of configuring all the wifi points. The access points will also have to support vlans as there is a guest network in the school that we are quoting for. The access points will have to have support A,AC,G dual band. Please dont hesitate to drop me a PM Thanks Nathan

We are setting up a new WiFi network at work (a school) that uses an ancient aruba controller (with aruba 105 APs) following the principles of eduroam listed here and the radius server is windows NPS again following the docs here. Initially I copied the existing config we have got for our current wifi to no avail. The current network still works fine but no one can remember the details (and it is not in keeping with the BYOD route we are going down). I have consistently been getting an error message of "authentication failed due to user credentials mismatch" (error 16 Event 6273) which most people have suggested through various forums means that the APs shared secret does not match - I have checked this more than once it does! Additionally I have checked the obvious account user/pass out and again it is correct. In order to try and diagnose the problem further I brought in some of my unifi gear from home and spun up a completely fresh DC/CA/NPS server in a test environment. Same error but this time I have also installed wireshark. If I "accept users without validating credentials" in the CRP then NPS returns a access-accept response, but the client still is unable to connect to the network (client reports dot1X timeout followed by operation was cancelled/server reports success) - this leads me to think it is something wrong client side? Then if I switch the CRP to authenticate on this server (client reports explicit eap failure recieved followed by network is not available/Server sends an string of access-request/challenge immediately before access-reject) presumably this means that it is waiting for correct verification from the client? CRP settings are: Conditions NAS port Type - Wireless Other or 802.11 Username - .+@schooldomain\.org\.uk$ Settings Authentication Provider - Local Computer Manipulation attribute rules - Replace "@schooldomain\.org\.uk$" with "@schooldomain.local" Target - User Name Override Auth - Disabled Network Policy settings are: Conditions NAS Port Type - Wireless User Groups - SchoolDomain\Eduroam Settings EAP Config - Configured (PEAP with secured password EAP-MS-CHAPv2) Ignore Dial-In Properties Grant Access Client is supplied an IP Tunnel Medium 802/Type VLAN/Tunnel-ID 66 Encryption Enabled So I have been battling with this for several weeks now and banging my head against a wall would be more productive... Anyone got any pointers?

Hello everyone, A couple of questions regarding our Aruba Controller 3400 Managed Wireless system with 24 AP-105's. 1. We have been quoted for a 16 AP license upgrade to enable us to get one of the blocks on the Aruba system (Its currently on a 3COM system). Part of the quote has "Policy Enforcement Firewall" and "Wireless Intrusion Protection Module". These have added a considerable amount to the quote. My question is, are they required for the APs to work or can they be removed? 2. Does the 3400 controller support NAT? I only ask as our LEA provided Network Addresses are 10.208.208.0/21 so that only gives us 2,046 IP addresses. Therefore, to allow us the flexibility of providing BYOD capabilities, it would be good to be able to use another range of addresses, such as, 192.168.x.x. Would this be a feasible solution/idea? Any help and advice on these above points would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance. J_Worth.

We have a dedicated call center in our hospital. We are using a IP PBX software from a outsourced vendor. The software is installed in our PCs to attend the enquiry calls. The client pcs using in call center is a data vlan in one of the access switch. The server IP PBX software is installed in data center server farm switch. For the past weeks, the software was having some issues at some time, when i checked with the vendor they said software side is ok upon checking on wireshark logs. They have made several observations & fixes - Key Observations: Wrong Sequence Number (Red Entries) - RTP packets are arriving out of order or being lost, likely due to network congestion or QoS issues. High Jitter Values (Max: 7.03 ms) - Increased jitter can degrade voice quality, causing choppy audio or lag. Packet Loss (0.00%) - No significant packet loss was observed, but sequence errors suggest potential packet reordering. Clock Drift (-79 ms) - A lack of synchronization between sender and receiver clocks can impact audio quality. Cause - Solution. Network Congestion - Prioritize RTP traffic using QoS settings on the firewall or router. Jitter & Delay - Implement jitter buffers or increase buffer size in VoIP settings. Packet Reordering - Check network routing and MTU settings to prevent out-of-order delivery. Clock Drift - Ensure both endpoints synchronize time using NTP. Pls help me what to do from the core switch side or on the access switch side. NOTE- When I checked the ping status from the client PC to Server IP there is no drop or that much latency. Core switches are CISCO 4506 model Access switch for call center department is Aruba Instant ON 1930 model.

We've just purchased 2 Lindy SFP+ modules to upgrade our newly installed Aruba 2540 switches to 10Gbps. However when installing the modules they refuse to establish a link back to our Dell core switch, when installing 2 in the same switch and creating a loop (just for testing and for a very short period) the link establishes just fine. When checking the Aruba UI they appears to only be running at 1000 base (probably not correct wording). Our Dell modules are 10Gbps only and I'm assuming that's why the link fails to come up When first installed I had to run a command as they aren't "supported", has anyone had any experience of this? If so how did you over come it? Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks

£95 for a Aruba Management password change. No wonder schools have no money this is basically a ten second job and someone is charging us £95 quid to change it, so we can have access to the system. Is this a standard charge because I feel like it is day light robbery. How can they charge this much.

We have a number of laptops which keep dropping the wireless connection at random periods throughout the day causing the laptop to appear offline. Manually syncing the laptop will bring it back online but this has been going on for a few months or so and thought it was about time I tried to get to the bottom of it. All laptops are running Windows XP and are connecting to an Aruba managed wireless network which was installed this time last year. It is also worth mentioning that the laptops are not always moved about i.e. laptops which spend all day at the same desk also experience the same symptoms. I hope there is somebody out there who has experienced this same problem and can shed some light on the situation :-)

Hi Our A Level ICT teacher has setup a Linux sandbox environment. We need to set things up so that Linux box can access the internet via our existing infrastructure but that cannot see or be seen by (at all) the rest of the school network. The computer should only be able to access the internet but it should still go out through our cloud hosted NetSweeper firewall. It will be connected wired to an Aruba switch. We have VLANs setup on the switches and we even have an internet only VLAN that is setup for our guest WiFi users. Our Wifi is down at the moment (another story). I tried connecting the computer using the Guest Only VLAN but it doesn't get connected (to the internet). I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this so I'm guessing now but is this down to the IP address/setup on the Linux box (ie do we just need to assign it a static IP on the guest VLAN)? Failing that would I need to look at ACLs on the Aruba switch? I would have no idea how to go about that. Would the DNS settings on the Linux box still need to see the school network's DNS servers? I'm guessing this is pretty straightforward but it's a new area for me - ish. I have configured switches and set ports to VLANs etc so I have a basic idea of the HP CLI commands - just never got into ACLs TIA Mark P.

Hi HP/Aruba switches. We have about 30. All are on the same VLAN as the servers. We have a set server as the IP manager for the switches. I was trying to change a port's VLAN today but was unable to connect to the switch I needed. Also unable to ping it. Can ping and connect to all the other switches in the same cabinet/comms room from the same server. Can ping the same switch from all the other switches I can connect to from that server. Can ping every switch (including the one that I can't from the server) from my workstation which is on a different VLAN. Cannot ping this one switch from any server on the same vlan as the switches. Haven't yet tried to connect to the switch directly via a cable but I'm hoping that works or we're a tad screwed. Any ideas as to why this might be happening? I am not a network expert in anyway. In theory all the switches have exactly the same config as far as management and VLANs are concerned. I wait expectantly TIA

Hi, Wasn't sure whether to post this under Mac or Wireless. Our School is predominantly Windows based and I'm pretty useless when it comes to using Mac's. But I have a Macbook lying around feeling sorry for itself so I thought I would try and hook it up to our Aruba Wireless Network. It recognises the Network but when I tap the passkey in it tries to connect before returning a "connection failed error". The key is definately correct so not sure if I am missing something or if the Wireless is not setup to accomidate Mac's as we have had the exact same problem in the past with guests using Macs. Any help would be much appreciated! Sam

With any wireless modifications, be it expanding an existing deployment, upgrading an ageing one or planning for a completely new network one of the first steps should be a Predictive Wireless Design. A Predictive Design also called a Planning Design or Predictive Survey uses specialist software to create a virtual representation of your site and predicted RF environment. Access Points are placed around the site based on best practice WiFi design to model a predicted deployment. The software interprets this model and produces a report showing the predicted signal strength and coverage amongst other metrics. You can also perform density planning using the predicted data. With a predicted AP count it is possible to build out proposals and costs for further discussion and review. The survey can be updated and remodelled following the review until a design has been confirmed. All documentation and reports are provided to the client for future review. Net-Ctrl offers these Predictive Designs free of charge. Any design does require manufacturer knowledge by the person completing it. Net-Ctrl primarily works with Ruckus but can also complete surveys based on Aruba (excl. Instant-On) and Cambium. To complete a Predictive Design, we will need: A copy of scales site plans Description of your built environment User profile – class sizes, device type and applications Following a Predictive Design, we would recommend an Active Survey/On-site Survey be completed by a trained professional. This enables the engineer to put the predictions to the test and ensure the AP layout will perform as expected. Please note this is a chargeable service on a day rate basis. For any questions, please feel free to comment on this thread or send them to me directly. Should you want Net-Ctrl to complete a free-of-charge Predictive Design please send me a PM or email [email protected] and we can begin the process. There is no buy-in to Net-Ctrl following this service. There are no expectations of further purchase and unless requested you will not be added to any mailing lists.

Hello all, We hope the start of term has gone smoothly, after what has been for many a rather crazy and demanding summer. I’m sure many of you will have been affected by the shortage of certain IT equipment – we work with both Ruckus (wired/wireless) and Aruba (wired) and have had to manage a lot of equipment delays and shortages that affected us and our clients. Fortunately, with a bit of foresight, we were able to plan early and complete around 95% of our summer installs and projects. We had open discussions with clients about the options available and put plans in place together to deliver. Looking ahead it seems that the stock shortage across many of our partners isn’t going to go away just yet, and there is going to be a hangover where demand has outstripped supply. New shipments are already allocated to existing projects and on some models we’re seeing delays through to next year. The advice we’re giving to all our clients, particularly those looking at wired/wireless refreshes, is to start planning early. We’re already talking to many about plans for next Feb half term and summer in order to design solutions and identify equipment in order to put a reserve on the potential requirement. For any of you that are planning networking projects, or others for that matter, I would advise you to reach out to your partner and begin those discussions as early as you can. If you don’t have a partner in mind and plan either a Ruckus wired/wireless installation, or Aruba wired solution, please send us a PM and we will try to assist. Many thanks, Josh, Net-Ctrl

Just looking for some quick advice. Our current wireless Aruba network consists of IAP-105's, 115's and a couple of 114's. Yes I know they aren't the newest but they work. They current run ArubaOS version 6.4.4.6. I have purchased some IAP-205's to expand our network. The reason for buying yet more older kit is because they will still run version 6.4.x.x of the software - if I go to version 6.5.x.x then the old 105 models are no longer supported. Anyway, the 205's have turned up and are running version 6.4.1.x. I tried to see if I could download the same 6.4.4.6 version for these (known as 'Taurus') but the only available version was 6.4.4.8 which is that last version in the 6.4 range. No problem, bug fixes are inevitable. So I ran an upgrade on one of the new 205's and it is now showing as 6.4.4.8. However I cannot make it appear in my existing cluster. My assumption is that I need to upgrade everything to the same 6.4.4.8 version. This version is available for my units in the Orion and Pegasus varieties. However, I'm unsure on how to go about upgrading them all? I haven't had to do it in the time I've been here. My virtual controller 'master' is running on one of the 115's. In the Maintenance --> Firmware settings page I have 2 boxes for entering URL's for Orion and Pegasus images. What is the best way to proceed to upgrade everything? One of my technicians believes you have to upgrade one of the model types first and unplug all the rest i.e. unplug the 105's and upgrade all the 115's. Then swap over. This doesn't sound right to me? Any help??

Hi All Our ICT department has been given some level 3 hp switches. They have been wiped clean so are basically factory set. The ICT teacher will be using them as teaching tools for A level computing so their actual config is not my issue (I think). What I have been asked to do is to connect the switches to our LAN but only allow any computers on those switches to have internet access - they are not to be able to communicate to the rest of the school network in any way. He has only asked for one port to be configured. I assume this can be done with a VLAN but at the moment we do not have any VLANS setup in such a way. I am hoping there is a simple way to do this. I have some basic command knowledge of Aruba/HP switches (all the switches at school are Aruba/HP) but not currently enough to do this without assistance... IS it possible?? TIA

Divergent Dynamics have released a new stress test report putting Ruckus, Aruba, Aerohive, Meraki and Cisco against each other. Using mid-range 802.11ac access points (APs), the testing measured each AP’s ability to simultaneously deliver video and data to 60 client devices. I thought it could be of interest to some of you. A lot of the time these reports are co-sponsored/supported by a vendor, but on quick inspection, i can't see any obvious signs of this being the case. You can view the report here: http://divdyn.com/docs/WiFi-vendor-video-stress-test.pdf Ruckus intro piece: Using mid-range 802.11ac access points (APs), the testing measured each AP’s ability to simultaneously deliver video and data to 60 client devices. The results showed that the Ruckus R610 AP was the only tested AP able to maintain stall-free video delivery to each client when data traffic loading was simultaneously applied to the network. “The tests were conducted in a real-world, high client-density environment and carried out using industry best practices and each manufacturer’s recommendations,” said Devin Akin, founder and CEO of Divergent Dynamics. “In this environment, Ruckus APs delivered consistent stall-free video, outperforming five APs from four manufacturers, including two APs with higher performance specifications. The R610 was the only AP to meet real-world relevant test objectives and was nothing short of impressive.” Test Results In the test with 30 video clients, the Ruckus R610 was the only AP that maintained stall-free video delivery to all 30 clients while under heavy network loading from data-only clients. In the test with 60 video clients, the Ruckus R610 was the only AP that maintained stall-free video delivery to all 60 video clients both with and without network loading. Business Implications IT departments are increasingly tasked with delivering a higher quality of service over a wireless local area network (WLAN) without over-spending on infrastructure. In some segments, such as education, the consistent delivery of stall-free video is imperative to the proper functioning of the organization. IT organizations that can provide their users with a better video experience save time by reducing the number of helpdesk tickets they receive. IT organizations that can use the equivalent of one AP for every two rooms rather than one AP for each room reduce the cost of access point infrastructure as well as associated licenses, cable runs and power consumption. “Ruckus is committed to ensuring the highest quality of experience for each user, regardless of traffic type,” said Greg Beach, vice president of wireless products, Ruckus. “Video is becoming more prevalent in every WLAN environment and, in contrast to most types of data traffic, poor video delivery is immediately apparent to the end user. The Divergent Dynamics report is further testament to Ruckus’ unique ability to ensure a great end-user Wi-Fi experience—without over-procuring—even under the most challenging of circumstances.”
