Hi all, Please Help! I am on the look out for any type of PC's, Laptops, Servers, Smartboards, Projectors, DLT devices, NAS boxes, external storage and switches. We are a small FE College where funding has been neglected in the ICT department for about 5 years. So I am on the scrounge for cheap or even FREE! equipment. So dig deep, if you can donate anything it would be very much appreciated. Please inbox or PM me if you can offer anything. We are based in Peterborough but are prepared to organise couriers if need be. Many thanks for your assistance.

I've been experiencing a network problem with some XP machines which I have never seen before, seem to be a pain to fix. The computer looks, and seems to be connected to the network absolutely fine. It has the correct proxy information, it gains a valid IP address with the correct subnet mask and is using the correct gateway. However, the computer can't connect to the internet or any internal servers. This includes mail servers and file servers. The weird thing is, I CAN ping Google and I CAN ping all our servers by both name and IP Address. A tracert to Google shows the predicted results. We're using Dell Optiplex machines with many different generations and models, but it seems to affecting different models, not just one kind of model. All of the machines are running XP with SP3. I've tried updating network drivers and updating the BIOS, both of which were unsuccessful. I released the IP address and renewed it, and flushed the DNS; again both unsuccessful in fixing the problem. One PC was fixed by re-imaging it, so I'm convinced it's not a hardware problem and inside XP. It's happened to a couple, and if it keeps happening I don't want to end up re-imaging the whole school. Has anyone encountered this before or able to help with any more troubleshooting tips?

We have a Dell NX3100 file server that we are going to rebuild over half term. I cannot find the disks that came with it. Does anyone here have a 3100, and, more importantly, do they have the disks that go with it, or know where I can get a copy? Huge thanks, Ben.

I've got a few Dell Optiplex 745 USFF machines that wont start properly on a morning, during the boot up process they throw a 'Hard drive fan failure, press F1 to continue' message. I've had a look inside and the fan seems to be working fine. Anyone have any ideas at what might be causing this? Cheers!

What is the difference between single, dual and quad ranked memory? What is best? I think I know the differences, but can't put this information into real world use. Some old information on the Kingston web site implies that some chipsets restrict the total number of ranks available. So going for dual or quad rank memory my restrict total memory. I checked on the Dell specification website for this machine and specified a machine with 8 x 4GB dual ranked modules to give 32GB RAM so it looks like dual rank memory does not affect the max memory of this machine. (I could have done same with 8GB RDIMMs and get 64GB but went with 4GB RDIMMs as that was what we were looking to buy).

I have replaced the front USB unit on this Optiplex 320 after somebody mashed the USBs by careless use of a memory key. Now the usbs won't work. I have checked they're switched on in BIOS and every thing's connected properly, still no joy. All seems to be working in Device manager. All the back usbs are in use with a printer, an IWB etc, etc, so I'm stuck. Any ideas?

Hi all, We're upgrading some workstations over the summer, and I thought I'd put the feelers out to see if anyone wants the decommissioned ones? We'll have 24 x Dell OptiPlex 3020 SFF workstations, Core i3-4130 with 4GB RAM (one Core i5, for some reason) going spare. They're 2014 vintage, but still work OK. They've initially came with 3.5in HDD, have been adapted to take 2.5in SSD. Drives not included, but open to discussion. For collection, North London. Free, or donation to the school PTA. Thanks!

Hello, I am an apprentice within IT and I need some assistant. (I do not know much technical terms yet as I am still learning so please be advised). We have Dell Latitude 3190 laptops at my workplace which were given to us by the DfE during Covid-19 time to deploy for home working/learning. We still have 12 of these in my office, which we plan to deploy using an IpV4 network boot. We have brought a LAN to USB adapter as these laptops do not have ethernet ports on them. I then went into the BIOS and enabled the network stack as I had been told too. The only issue is, Once enabling this and going back to the F12 boot up, it only shows Windows Boot Manager. It will not allow me to boot in any other mode. I have even enabled boot with USB and changed the fastboot options as was advised. I am stuck. I am not sure what to do. On normal DELL desktops, I have noticed there was additional options that allowed it to PXE boot that doesn't seem to be on this BIOS? Could I please get some support please. Thank you.

We've just purchased 2 Lindy SFP+ modules to upgrade our newly installed Aruba 2540 switches to 10Gbps. However when installing the modules they refuse to establish a link back to our Dell core switch, when installing 2 in the same switch and creating a loop (just for testing and for a very short period) the link establishes just fine. When checking the Aruba UI they appears to only be running at 1000 base (probably not correct wording). Our Dell modules are 10Gbps only and I'm assuming that's why the link fails to come up When first installed I had to run a command as they aren't "supported", has anyone had any experience of this? If so how did you over come it? Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks

Has anyone used SCCM to update the BIOS on a Dell Vostros 15 before? I notice there is a silent install switch (/s) along with a restart option (/r) so easily added to SCCM but am I asking for trouble or does it just work? I'm assuming if people have successfully done this then to just use the /s option and put a restart in the SCCM Task Sequence straight after it instead so that SCCM maintains control of the restart?

Hi all, We currently have our Dell WYSE clients managed by the free version of Teradici but have exceeded the 100 unit limit. They want stupid money for the full version I've heard that most management console wont talk to them due to their architecture.. So what are you using to manage these? Anything free or cheap lol Thanks

Hey all I'm new here and a casual browser too - Thanks for all the help you have no idea how many times you've bailed me out So my boss has decided it's time for a sell off of equipment and one of the things to go are the Dell GX620s we have in store. We've got about 20 of them so thought I'd put them on here if anyone is interested in buying them. Specs are as follows: Processor: Intel Pentium 4-HT 2.8GHZ RAM: 1GB RAM HDD: 80GB Hard Drives Also CD/DVD RW Drive Dell 17" monitors They come with keyboards, mice, stands, power packs etc. They're great little work horses and should be good for further use. We're based in London so it would have to be collection unless perhaps maybe a pallet delivery but we can discuss that. He said to put them up for £40 a piece (£800 the lot) - but since we're selling the lot we can negotiate the price. Still good price for a complete system. Anyhow thanks again everyone, if you're interested please get in touch. I do have more equipment so should be putting more stuff up for sale. G Kwengi

Hi all, I've just had a Dell Optiplex 280 come into out office with a very strange Beep error code that I can't seem to diagnose even after reading though the error diagnoses sheet for that particular model. The error is as follows: 1long-1long-1short-1long-1long (brief pause) 1long-1long If any of you have had a similar error or can shed some light as to the origin of the error please do so.

Hey Guys So sorry to bug you all though I'm getting really stressed over this -.- There is an Alienware 17 (2013) laptop up for grabs for just under £1000 near me in perfect condition. I'm really tempted as I could be saving £300 and I like the bragging factor always wanted an Alienware tehe. Although at the moment I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 1 64GB with an i5 4GB RAM and Intel HD 4000 Graphics. If I sell this and buy a Alienware laptop which has i7 8GB Ram 256GB SSD and Nvidia GTX 765m GPU. If I'm spending this kind of money I want to know these things last a long time and what they're capable of. Can you upgrade things such as RAM, Processor and GPU as years go by. Also what is the Nvidia GTX 765m like for gaming. I have a 7770 at home in my rig and that pretty much handles every game I throw at it is this GPU better or worse? Do any of you have experience with an Alienware laptop if so what's your thoughts ??? Really would appreciate any help guys Thanks
