We have quite a few of these now and so we wanted to enable WOL for all of them to have them ready for users when they come in [Deploy any new packages and complete any waiting updates etc] We found that none of the 9020s would WOL. I have updated the BIOs from A02 to A10 and checked the BIOS settings again [Power management: WOL: LAN only, Deep sleep control: Disabled] The BIOS upgrade did not resolve the issue. I called Dell who are now escalating this to their Product Team [?] Waiting for more news...

Hi All not sure if this is the right forum to post this but if not let me know and ill leave I have a Lenovo V110-15ISK running Win 10 Pro that is having issue with secure boot, the secure boot is not staying enabled which causes us not able to get into the laptop because we have Bitlocker using TPM so doesn't need a password, when it disables we have to go into the BIOS again and enable it and it works for a certain amount of time then disables itself again anyone have any ideas?

Hi all, I am having problems with a computer and found the quickest and easiest way is just to rebuild it. I try and PXE Boot the machine to start the build process but the LAN boot doesn't seem to be working properly. I have checked the BIOs settings and it is set to boot from LAN and I cannot find any other options that might be preventing it from booting via LAN. Any ideas?

Has anyone had issues with locking down the BIOS for Toshiba C660 laptops? In our case – even after setting a “master” BIOS user password, students are able to get into the BIOS and be able to set a HDD password. Without the HDD password the laptop will not boot into the OS, from what I can gather the HDD password is written to firmware of the HDD and this can NOT be reset. Is anyone experiencing the same problem? Does anyone know of a work around?

Have a computer with a Gigabyte - GA m61pme-s2 mobo just picked it up everything worked fine on it booted up everything now brought it home plugged it in and its beeps once (which according to manual means no errors on the board) and then shutdowns... everything is properly seated, havent added anything to it and now stumped as to why it wont boot... any ideas? Cheers

Hi all Today I was asked to go to a group of PCs that had been locked out by the BIOS password being changed from setup to always. All of our PCs have a BIOS password so no pupil should have been able to access the BIOS. Is anyone aware of a back door way into BIOS? Needless to say if they have got the BIOS password there are approx 600 PCs that need to have it changed! I don't want to do that unless forced

Those lovely guys at ICT Direct have donated a few IBM ThinkPad T60s. What I need to do is enable virtualisation in the BIOS. I cannot select this option currently by acessin the BIOS as a normal user. How do I get access to the advanced BIOS options i.e. what keys do I need to press to access the BIOS as an admin?

Hello. I have a Dell Poweredge T430 server on Windows Server 2019 Standard that is stuck on Configuring Memory during bootup. I have attempted to installed a newer version of bios from 2.9.1 to 2.13.00 Once I installed the update I had to reboot the server. From then on I have been stuck on this issue. These are the things that I have tried so far Moving the NVRAM jumper 3-5 to 1-3, restarted the server, after 5 minutes powered it down and put the jumper back to its original position. I have also try to boot the server with just one memory module. I reseated the modules in a different slot. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Have a Lenovo X131e laptop that 95% of the time does not work. Pressing the power button lights the LED but shows no other signs of life. However, 5% of the time, it works perfectly fine, and it passes the POST and it loads the OS. It remains working until you restart the computer, at which time it then fails in the same manner as usual. Have had a few other X131e's that had the same problem, and they went back to Lenovo under warranty. They came back fixed and the repair ticket said that the BIOS was updated. Unfortunately this laptop is no longer under warranty, so I've been trying to get the BIOS updated during the rare times it actually boots. Firstly I tried using the BIOS updater for Windows, which complained that it couldn't read the current BIOS files. That suggested to me that something in the BIOS is corrupt. So next I've tried using the bootable ISO from a CD. This has given variable results from being unable to read the current BIOS to being unable to even start the flash process because "memory cannot be allocated, and the process did not complete". Seeing the mention of memory caused me to run a full pass of Memtest86+, which indicated no errors. I've tried removing the CMOS battery, I've tried discharging the system by holding down the power button with all sources of power disconnected, I've tried running it without the battery, I've tried without any RAM (it beeps, which is a good sign), and I've tried it with only one RAM module. I can find no rhyme or reason why it boots fine sometimes but usually just sits there being grumpy. Anyone have any similar experiences? Any advice gratefully received. Many thanks.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this website. I have Acer Aspire 4752G and I can't boot it up. It says: bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart. I can't boot from USB/DVD because I cannot access the BIOS and I have a Phoenix Bios. Is there any other way to fix it? The laptop doesn't have any important files and it only have games in it. The laptop specs: OS: Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 8 Release Preview [dual-boot] [32-bit] RAM: 2 GB CPU: Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz [quad-core] GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M [1 GB]

Hi all, I've just had a Dell Optiplex 280 come into out office with a very strange Beep error code that I can't seem to diagnose even after reading though the error diagnoses sheet for that particular model. The error is as follows: 1long-1long-1short-1long-1long (brief pause) 1long-1long If any of you have had a similar error or can shed some light as to the origin of the error please do so.

Just recently a couple of staff have mentioned that on their laptops Num Lock seems to be enabled from the logon screen. These users use the same keys that are used as a keypad as part of their username, so its annoying to disable it every time. We looked into the registry settings HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators 0 = Num Lock is Enabled and is turned OFF AFTER the logon. 1 = Disable Num Lock completely. 2 = Numlock is turned ON AFTER the logon This seemed to make no difference, and when testing on another couple of machines, the setting wasn't consistent. Well after some investigation it only affected our Acer TravelMate 5720's, and a BIOS update resolved the issue. We were on V1.27 (Updated to V1.35) so any machine with a similar phoenix BIOS on an Intel board could have the issue. On a side note, the WinPhlash file has to be explicitly run as Administrator (Right Click -> Run As Administrator) even if you are logged in as an admin, otherwise the error will state "Failed to open Flash.sys" or something similar. Just thought i would share this in case anyone experiences the same issue. Simon

Dear community, I'm struggling to get Bitlocker working on my HP ProBook 4340s under Win 10 pro (64bit). setup: - no TPM module present, but changes made to group policy editor to have Bitlocker working without. - Windows is newly installed on SSD (crucial MX500 250GB) from UEFI USB Windows setup stick, then updated to 20H2(ok, some settings made with OOShutUp against Microsoft spying, that's all) - Partitions have been created as standard during install: a) 100 MB EFI System b) 232,26GB NTFS Boot and Basic Data c) 521 MB NTFS recovery as the Bitlocker option to 'activate' is presented to me this should be ok, otherwise it would complain about wrong partitions, right? - BIOS set to 'native UEFI' (no CSM) and 'secure boot', I heard that this is mandatory to have Bitlocker working (BIOS ver. F.68 04/11/2019) Problem: After activating Bitlocker for C: (the only available anyway) and the necessary reboot, Windows loads normally and gives me the error "BitLocker could not be enabled. The data drive specified is not set to automatically unlock on the current computer and cannot be unlocked automatically. C: was not encrypted." This message is obviously a result of the pre-encryption 'Bitlocker system check'. (that check for automatic decryption fails, regardless whether I choose USB-stick or password as unlocking method) It must have something to do with the startup-sequence, some wrong BIOS settings... but I couldn't figure out which. Toggling 'secure boot' on or off makes no difference. (one guy here recommended turning it off in his special case) other people on the web suspect the mistake in some USB settings, but I tried all available settings (and after all, I don't insist on unlocking via USB, would be nice though) and with even others the problem disappeared by itself and they don't know why... The craziest thing is that it showed me the password-entry-screen ONE time. (unfortunately, at that time I had to quit with escape because I wanted to save the recovery key before it starts encryption) I could never make this screen appear again since then! Somebody out there who is familiar with such machine behavior? :-) Any helpful comment greatly appreciated!

Hi, I'm trying to update the BIOS of this machine to fix another issue, but in doing so I've come across another issue. I've tried to update the BIOS via USB and within the operating system running CMD as admin both yield the same failed result. I've attached a photo of the USB attempt. I've scoured google and found many with the same issue but no resolution to the issue.

Hi, again, so this time, we have some Zoostorm PCs in my school. They are all cracking little machines. But they seem to have a pretty nasty -but fixable- BIOS issue. Sometimes the machines state that the BIOS is corrupted, luckily they are based of Gigabytes DualBIOS system, sp they recover automatically, great, however they switch back to Windows 8 mode, which is a problem for a Windows 7 machine. Windows 8 mode prevents the system from booting up, as it is expecting a secure bootloader, which it doesn't have, so we have to go into BIOS, turn off secure boot, set the mode to Other OS and we set a password. It fixes the problem, but it is one of those issues that we could do without. Do any of you have any reason as to why this may happen, or do you suffer with the same problems? Cheers!

Getting the above error on a Dell Optiplex 755. Either message stops the PC booting randomly from cold. Warm booting usually works after that, although the user said it didn't work one day. Tried flashing the BIOS from A10 to A17. Swapped SATA cables. Same. On the 755 the HDD and DVD are both SATA. But why doesn't it boot with the DVD channel error? I'm going to try another HDD, but suspect is a motherboard fault. Suggestions welcome!
