So... I know how to fix it, but it seems to be affecting almost all the computers on my domain, any idea's whats causing it? Dom

I’m having problems opening image files on memory sticks or copying other files to and from them. Only affects our HP pc’s the one that seems to be affected most is d7800 but we do some times get glitches with other models. 7800, 7700, 5150. Keep getting read write errors say disk full or not accessible. When view contents of stick you can see a thumb nail of the file but when you try open it you get a red cross in the middle of the screen and it won’t open it tried reinstalling USB drivers does not seem to make any difference. It happens both under admin and user accounts. Any one got any ideas

Hello. I have a Dell Poweredge T430 server on Windows Server 2019 Standard that is stuck on Configuring Memory during bootup. I have attempted to installed a newer version of bios from 2.9.1 to 2.13.00 Once I installed the update I had to reboot the server. From then on I have been stuck on this issue. These are the things that I have tried so far Moving the NVRAM jumper 3-5 to 1-3, restarted the server, after 5 minutes powered it down and put the jumper back to its original position. I have also try to boot the server with just one memory module. I reseated the modules in a different slot. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

RAM man, not only a newly acquired nickname (its rugby related!) but also highly relevant as I have the below going for a song: 6 x HP 2GB (1x2GB) Dual Rank x8 PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333) Unbuffered CAS-9 Memory Kit(500670-B21) (open box) 1 x HP 2GB (1x2GB) Dual Rank x8 PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333) Unbuffered CAS-9 Memory Kit(500670-B21) (sealed unit) PM or email me sensible offers- RRP £35 per stick Mark [email protected]

I'm looking to upgrade the memory in my computer to >=12Gb (for running virtual network images of 2008 server/exchange/sql/sharepoint/etc.) Currently I have an Asus P6X58-E motherboard with 3 x 2Gb DDR3 1600mhz (8-8-24 1.65v) DIMMs in it. Another 3 x 2GB of the same stuff costs £70 but i've read somewhere that you can't run 6 x 2Gb DIMMS on the motherboard at 1600Mhz and you need to throttle it back to 1333Mhz? Because of this I was thinking that a better option might be just to buy 3 x 4Gb DDR3 1333Mhz (1.5v) DIMMs instead as it's only £30 more. Would it work running (3 x 4Gb DDR3-1333) and (3 x 2Gb DDR3-1600) at the same time to give me 18Gb total? I understand that the 1600Mhz RAM will have to run at 1333Mhz but is this possibly on a triple channel X58 motherboard? Normally this would work fine on a DDR2 motherboard mixing the RAM speeds but I wasn't sure if the triple-channel memory, different voltage and DDR3 memory would be a problem as I've heard DDR3 is a bit more fiddly in getting it to work? Any thoughts and advice appreciated! TIA

The attached KIX script can be run during your logoff procedure to check if a user has left any USB Mass Storage devices plugged into the computer. This includes USB Sticks! Although devices such as USB CD/DVD drives will not be detected, USB Card Readers will be picked up. This is by design (for us at least), as Card Readers here are loaned from the IT Dept so on logoff need to be returned. Some Internal Card Readers are connected by a motherboard Internal USB connection and appear as USB Card Readers; these need to be added to the exemptions list in the script. e.g. ; Insert device IDs here for devices which are permanently attached to a computer DIM $Exemptions[3] $Exemptions[0] = "&VEN_TEAC&PROD_USB___HS-CF_CARD&" ; Internal card reader for Dell OptiPlex 740 $Exemptions[1] = "&VEN_TEAC&PROD_USB___HS-MS_CARD&" ; Internal card reader for Dell OptiPlex 740 $Exemptions[2] = "&VEN_TEAC&PROD_USB___HS-SD_CARD&" ; Internal card reader for Dell OptiPlex 740 $Exemptions[3] = "&VEN_TEAC&PROD_USB___HS-XD/SM&" ; Internal card reader for Dell OptiPlex 740 If amending this list don't forget to change the Variable Declaration! To find the device id to be added to the exemptions list, check Device Manager > (a Device) > Details > Device Instance ID. Enjoy! (Released under GPL). CheckForUSBStorage.zip

Ok, I'm trying to get my head around this and Google is no help whatsoever! Some IT people have forgotten how to speak English, I swear! I wonder if someone out there in EduGeekLand can help me... We currently have a physical server for our MIS (which shall remain nameless) but we also run a hyper-v server farm; four hosts, each with 2x quad core processors and 64GB of memory. The hypervisor is hyper-v... The MIS is performing woefully bad, and we need to give it more...well, more! (It has been suggested that we should have 16 cores and 16GB of memory... what am I running here? A weather centre?) Now, the physical server has 1 quad core processor, which obviously runs as 8 logical processors. I wanted to run a VM with more power than the physical server. I can give it a boat load of memory, but I can only assign 4 virtual processors to it. The solution has been suggested, therefore, that we throw more power at the physical server - but I am unconvinced that this is the best thing to do... feels like we're taking a step backwards. Are virtual processors the same as physical or logical cores, or does Hyper-V allocate it differently? Is a VM with 4 virtual cores likely to be more powerful if it is running on one of my uber-hosts, or not? Is it possible to allocate more than 4 cores or is that unecessary? You understand my confusion. I'm a simple being - please be gentle with me! Thanks in advance...

One of the schools I support is using version 4.74 of Testbase but when they try to open KS1_ENG or KS1_MATHS they get an error message "Out of memory". Testbase opens but will not view the files. If you click on any of the sections on the left menu you just get the same error pop up. Has anyone ever encountered this before and have any ideas what's causing it and how to fix it? Thanks!

I'm looking to increase the memory in my PC. Win7 Ultimate x64 bit currently has 2 x 2Gb of Kingston 800Mhz DDR2 Non ECC CL5, looking to double that. Quotes, or recommendations welcome.
