We load pupil photos in to progresso. Very useful at registration for cover staff. Our photographer provides the JPEGS and we resize them using IrfanView, before bulk(ish) import as guided by progresso's documentation. The killer in the process is mapping the pupil's face to their Learner ID and renaming all the files. The photographer has said they have a solution with another school where they use some kind of bar-coding, but it comes at a cost. We might be able to just ask for photos to be taken in a predefined order (but allowing for gaps) and I can run a script to rename, but that feels error prone. Additionally, the photographer tends to take clusters of photos so that makes life even trickier. I'm interested to know how other progresso users have tackled this conundrum, or indeed any other MIS user which supports pupil photo upload.

We have recently integrated our MIS system to Office365. As part of this, we have updated student school photos into Office365 email profiles. Overall this has been accepted well as both students and teachers are finding it useful for new students and staff, etc. However, the Lead Safeguarding Officer has asked for student images to be removed from emails sent to non-school email addresses. Any idea if this is possible, or will be have to switch off the integration of images altogether? Thanks everyone Angela

So, long story short, we've been using a hosted MIS solution. We got an email today telling us that they're discontinuing the service after this academic year. Now we're left with 4 months to find a new one, install it and train everybody to use it before the end of the new school year. So we're now in the market for a new MIS and fast! I've some experience myself with various different systems and have one in mind but want to spend at least *some* time exploring alternatives with the limited time I have available! So if anybody has any recommendations for an MIS which is a mature product, has good support, a track record and is unlikely to disappear after a year or two - please can you share your experiences? Thanks!

We are creating 'individual Report Templates' within SIMS and have successfully created a complete set of multi-page reports for Year 11 so each pupil has a 8-10 page report covering all subjects. This obviously required the insertion of SIMS codes for various Result Sets and took quite some time. We are now replicating this down to Year 10 and were hoping there may have been a way of quickly changing the codes by 'replacing' 'Year 11' with 'Year 10'. We tried this within the Word Template and although it did the physical 'text' replacement this failed to follow through to the 'SIMS Coding' and it just produced blank sheets. Before I spend many hours completely redoing the whole thing for Year 10 (then 9,8 and 7) does anyone have any possible fixes for this? Thanks in advance.

Hi I am having problems with solus 3. It wont respond to get version. I put the details in to the agent on a local machine but says the server actively refused it tcp 1006 error. I have spoken to capita and the had a look and said it was a port issue or firewall blocking it. I dont use windows firewall and have it switch off. When I run netstat -a on the server I cant see one of the ports 52065 I think it is but I can see the other. I was thinking that I will have to reinstall solus so it might register the port. Does anybody have a copy of the solus 3 install guide or any other ideas I could try? Thanks

Hello My school is currently using Facility Administration and we're looking into changing our MIS. We've had a demonstration from Progresso but feedback from other schools is that it doesn't work well, we will also have a demo from SIMS in the near future. Has anyone else done the change from Facility (or others) to SIMS and if so what were the pros/cons? What can SIMS offer that Facility doesn't? Thanks Richard

Good morning everyone, I'm new on this forum, I've already looked for the information of this post, please if there is any other post similar to this point it to me. I work on a private school in Uruguay, we have PREP, Form and Higher education, with local and IB diploma. Currently we have a large MIS system developped inside the school since about 2006 with lots of the main functionality of the big MIS systems. We are having problems on the maintenance, all our time is spent on correcting errors, and the implementation of new functionality also takes too long time, tipical problems of a bad maintenance of the system and poor development. I started to work here from about 6 months ago. Also we have a complete Administration program, fully integrated with the academic program developped in house, which is very old too and users are demanding reports and functionalities very hard to do (and in some cases imposible, like a cashflow) on this system. This is why we began the process of acquiring a new MIS system. By now I found three big candidates: SIMS, Bromcom, Aspen. The question is to have some references/experiences/recomendations of those of you that already past this process. Would like to share some questions/comments on this process. I used to work on a pharmaceutical company with a large world class ERP system on different countries and sites, so I'm very familiar with large systems and their implementation. Also if any of you can point to documents or web pages with analysis on this it would be really appreciated. Please let me know if some of you would like to spend some time on this or if I can post some questions here. Many thanks.

Hi all, I have just finished the final part of my write up on the synchronisation I have set up between iSAMS and Moodle to synchronise user authentication, course creation and student and teacher course enrolment. It's a blog in three parts. You can find them here: Part 1 - iSAMS to Moodle Course Enrolment – Part 1 | Jon Witts' Blog Part 2 - iSAMS to Moodle Course Enrolment – Part 2 | Jon Witts' Blog Part 3 - iSAMS to Moodle Course Enrolment - Part 3 | Jon Witts' Blog Hopefully someone will find it useful! It should not be too hard to adapt this to work with any MSSQL backed MIS System... Jon

Has anybody encountered the problem within the Integris G2 system, upon the point where you upload the data file onto they system, it comes back with a standard MS 'Page cannot be displayed' page. The network we run on uses proxy server settings and the proxy runs Squid. This issue only happens when I am going through the proxy, if I connect directly on an ADSL it has no issues. What I really need to know is if this application has any known issues with it or with Squid. Why should a proxy server cause issues as it is all going trough port 443. If any one has experienced this or similar problems, please get in touch, as I really need to get this sorted. If you need any more information please let me know. Thanks

In August we installed a new server and, with SIMS Support help on-site, moved the SQL database and SIMS over to it. Before moving we did the Aug update. Later one of our admin people noticed that when trying to edit the Father's details of a pupil (but OK with Mother's details) SIMS crashed. See attached screenshot. She could still enter a Father's details from scratch. Eventually realised that crashing was the rule for most users, and that only one user COULD edit Father's details. A user wih many more permisson groups. Worked With Capita Support but they were unable to reproduce the fault. Once they found that we had one custom permisions group they were unable to provide further answers. By giving one of the admin users ALL the Group Permissions that the successful user had, then stripping them out one at a time, I found that we can now only do this particular type of edit with "Fees Manager" in permissions. Anyone had an experience like this? No users had to have this permissions group to edit before the Aug Update/move.

Hi We're using Sims 7.148 and I am trying to edit an RTF report template. When using a machine with Office 2003 the template opens perfectly and I can access the fields to add into the document as I wish. Works perfectly. However when i edit the same RTF template on a machine with Office 2010 on the template opens, but I cant access the fields to add them - the mailmerge toolbar on the ribbon doesn't think the document has fields. Any suggestions - I am frustrated with having to change machines to make simple changes. Thanks

Is it possible to get the results from a moodle quiz / multiple choice quiz to go straight into facility? If so how? Otherwise how is it done? Can the facility vle output the results of the quiz into its own markbook? Thanks.

Just a quick blue Skies debate for you all. The current MIS situation in UK means we have 3 big players 1) Sims 2) Integris 3) CMIS First an interesting tidbit the market share is order above as Integris has more installs and usage than CMIS (that one surprised me when I found out) Is there room for small MIS system to take off or best they can hope for is that they get brought out by one of big players or a big player looking to get a quick injection into the market.
