Hi folks, I have been tasked with finding a wireless B&W laser printer that can be placed on a cart so that students with iPads can airprint to them. The students don't need color printing or any extra functions, I'm just looking for a reliable, affordable, wireless printer that supports airprint. Can you recommend a model for this task? Are there any specific models I should avoid? Thanks! I'm also wondering how well these printers handle a classroom full of students all trying to airprint at the same time. Any thoughts?

Meru MC1500 controller and 10 APs. All fully working. We recently upgraded our WIFI so this is our old system. Controller has ears for racking as well as serial cable and software cd. Access points all come with 6 antennae and mounting plates. Any sensible offers considered as this is just sitting in a cupboard. Collection preferred from Primary School in Bromley, Kent. Willing to courier - but might cost a few bob! PM me if interested. Thanks!

Hi all Just looking for some opinions on your managed wireless. We have the ok to replace our old system which constantly crashes and cannot cope with the amount of devices we have in school. I'm currently looking at Rucus which I've heard is very reliable. We currently have 250+ wireless devices soon to be more like 400, these are a mixture of ipads/netbooks/ android devices. Would like to set up guest access if possible for BYOD Not too worried about cost would just like some opinions! Thanks

We think a recent change to Windows 10 has stopped our Windows 10 laptops from connecting automatically to our Ruckus system... Some context: We have had for a number of years been using RADIUS from one of our DCs and a WiFi network called Restricted on our Ruckus wireless system and an inline filtering appliance. Laptops that are in a particular security group are allowed to join this WiFi network automatically and it works, it works without issue on Windows 7 clients and was working with Windows 10 clients too until recently. Now Windows 10 clients wont connect automatically to the WiFi upon boot causing them to not process group policy and they sit on the 'Applying Settings' message for a long time before giving up. It seems to be that Windows 10 now checks if there is an Internet connection before it will auto join the WiFi network and where we use an inline filtering appliance, machines do not get the Internet until a user logs on and is authenticated. I've tried allowing msftconnecttest.com via the filter to all machines in the hope that in the background the machine would check if this is available and allow the connection to the WiFi network but this does not seem to have fixed it. Has anyone else had experience of this in a similar set up to us? any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Hi All, Firstly, my apologies if this breaks any of the forums rules - I had a quick look around, but couldn't find any specific do's and don'ts under the Classified Adverts section. Our School has recently had a WiFi upgrade, and we now have 80+ Mixed Unifi AP's which we're looking to resell. I've currently stuck them on eBay and the item number is: 112853997506 All the information regarding the item(s) and quantities etc. can be found on the description, but of course if anyone has any questions, please ask :-)

Hi everyone, We recently got gifted some Ruckus R510 AP's from another school locally, these have finally allowed us to get some Wi-Fi across the site but we have identified some dead spots which need to have Wi-Fi access. Does anyone in the East Anglia region have any Ruckus R510 AP's that are surplus to requirements or are going to be E-Waste that they would be willing to donate to us. Thank you.

Our Science building went down, after 30 minutes of troubleshooting, I couldn't get the switch to talk.. Solution: I got some rather out of date airmax locos (need 24v passive power!) and 3d printed some stands to use indoors (day 2 addition) Science are up and running at 200Mbps! (ish) Got some new fiber being run in for £2800 end of next week. Unifi meshing btw was too weak to be used These Loco's don't talk to unifi management software ;(

Due to various issues we’re having with RADIUS accounting packets, we’re looking around for alternative RADIUS services we could use to replace Microsoft NPS. As well as being able to do the things NPS does for us currently (authenticating users using PEAP/MSCHAPv2 against AD and checking their group memberships before allowing access) we also need to be able to have some semi-intelligent rules around sending RADIUS accounting packets on to our firewall, including things such as * Delaying sending accounting packets to the firewall until the user has a non-APIPA IP address * Transforming accounting STOP packets to INTERIM packets to combat issues arising when roaming between APs Is there any commercial supplier that provides a paid supported virtual appliance (probably with FreeRADIUS or something on it) that has easy configuration options (e.g. web based) that we can just plonk in to our Hyper-V environment and set up how we want? Also just to clarify, this is just for our BYOD SSID, we don’t have/use eduroam so we wouldn’t need eduroam capability.

Hi Guys I have an issue with ipad 2 not reconnected to 2 of my schools the wireless networks automatically, normally when the iPads were attached to one access point, then gone to sleep and moved so be connecting to a different access point when it wakes up 9 times out of 10, the Wi-Fi said it’s connected but it won’t work, by switching the iPad into airplane mode for a few seconds and then off again fixes it. IPhones and mini ipad have no problem whatsoever it’s just the iPad 2. I can move around the school streaming iplayer videos on both the iPads2 and ipad mini. So I’m sure that it’s not the wireless setup but as soon as you put them to sleep walk to a different part of the school and try to wake them the iPad mini no problem connects and start streaming again the iPad 2 you have to switch off the wifi to get it reconnected. The wireless setup in both schools is managed H3C WX2024 controller with WA2612 access points setup with a single BSSD name with access controlled with a shared key (WPA2). In one school they don’t move the iPads2 around much so it’s not really a problem each class has 6, but in the other school they have a trolley of 32 ipads 2 which they move around the school constantly. All the other schools I support have different managed wifi systems as they were put in later and all have iPad mini, it’s taken me a bit of time to figure out it’s just the iPad 2 that have the problem. Looking on the web it possibility appears to be that the iPad 1 and 2 and iphone 4 don’t roam correctly between access points when they go to sleep https://discussions.apple.com/message/15276143#15276143 The was another one which can’t find at the moment which basically said refresh the IP address or switch the iPad into airplane mode and off again. I was just wondering if anyone else on here who has iPad 2 has a similar issue. Thanks

Hi folks, please help me regain a little sanity, and reduce further hair loss! I have a case open with Netgear about this but thought it worth asking here in case anyone has seen anything similar. We've just replaced a single core switch with two, split over two sites and linked via 10Gb fibre. There is an M5300-52G3 and an M5300-28GF3 linked as a remote stack via 10Gb fibre and managed as a single stack. Each has a number of GS7xxTP PoE switches attached for wifi access and some GS748Ts for wired access. The ports that the access points plug into on the 748TPs are configured as tagged for VLANS 10, 20, 24, 28, 32, untagged for VLAN 3 and have a PVID of 3. The 748TP trunks back to the stack have all VLANS tagged. On the stack trunk ports connected to the 748TPs the VLANS are all set as tagged.

VLAN SSID/Auth type Subnet Purpose

3 N/A 192.168.2.0/24 WiFi AP management

10 Dom/PSK and Dom2/RADIUS 10.xx.yy.0/22 Main campus VLAN

20 Student/RADIUS 192.168.20.0/22 Student wifi

24 Staff/RADIUS 192.168.24.0/22 Staff wifi

28 Guest/PSK 192.168.28.0/24 Guest wifi

32 Tablet/PSK 192.168.32.0/22 College Tablets

There is a Windows Server 2008 R2 DC running DHCP for all scopes and NAP for RADIUS authentication. It is plugged in to a port on the 52G3 that is a member of VLAN 10 only and has a PVID of 10. The switch stack is configured for DHCP relay and is using static routing between all of the VLANS mentioned so far. The issue I'm having is that everything on the PSK authenticated networks and also on the RADIUS authenticated parts of VLAN 10 is fine and dandy but on VLANs 20 and 24 a lot of RADIUS traffic seems to be going missing. Access points connected via the 52G3 mostly seem to be working okay (95% of clients authenticate successfully) but RADIUS connections from access points connected via the 28GF3 don't seem to be making it over the stack link to the server; most but not all fail. Consequently almost nobody can connect to the correct wifi on that site. Bizarrely, a few RADIUS requests do manage to make it across so it's unlikely to be a misconfiguration, else none would make it. We're currently working around the issue by attaching staff to a less secure wifi VLAN that uses PSK. Our previous core switch, a forerunner of the M5300-52G3 called GSM7352Sv1, had exactly the same configuration apart from stacking and worked flawlessly so I'm convinced that the server and wifi side of things is not at fault since nothing has changed on them. We replaced the single core switch to reduce the number of fibre runs that traveled a long way over a main road and back again and terminated most of the fibre on the M5300-28GF3. Anyone got any ideas what might be going on here? I'm completely stumped!

Ruckus has just released a new way to do WiFi in smaller sites that have limited budgets and limited IT resources. They call it Ruckus Unleashed. Ruckus Unleashed is a controller-less Ruckus solution whereby one AP acts as a Master AP that runs ZoneDirector code and manages your solution. The entire solution can be deployed in minutes and configured in just 60 seconds. This solution is capped at 25Aps and is currently only available with the R500 and R600 APs, however you can leverage your existing Unleashed investments to seamlessly upgrade to the controller-based management platform. Now you can take advantage of smart Wi-Fi, controller-less Features: Simple Deployment Deploy easily with no controller Configure a new Wi-Fi network Network investment protection Reduce your total cost of ownership Forward compatible with all future Ruckus architectures Optimal Wi-Fi user experience Deliver a reliable Wi-Fi experience to your end users Increase your network performance and capacity with Ruckus proprietary technologies such as BeamFlex+ and ChannelFly Enhance your customers’ experience Drive customer engagement by deploying a high RF performance network Leverage a wide range of guest access services such as: Captive portal, Email/SMS Guest Pass, Custom Logo, and Hotspot ZeroIT enables easy on-boarding of multiple guests simultaneously For more information on this solution, please feel free to send me a PM or ask in the thread and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Hi Guys, I've had a look through the forums but can't see anything. At the moment in our college we have a large network of Xirrus Wifi points and allow students to connect their phones, tablets, etc up to them. The problem is, they have to manually input the proxy details for our filtering server to get out to the net. I've been trying to think of a way around this I could implement over summer, but WPAD doesn't seem to work well with mobile devices. Can anyone think of any ideas? Or is manual entry the best way? Cheers, Sam.

Greeting everyone. I succesfully implement a test EPA/TLS wifi connexion with a winxpsp2 computer and certificates generated with openCA. However, the connexion will not occurs before the Domain Logon since the certificat reside only in the user profile. I tried to move the certificate in the computer container, but Windows refuse to see/use it. I tried the change the Authmode registry key without success. I beleive that Windows refuse to use the certificate because it does not originates from it's AD (I don't do AD). I want to know if it is possible to force Windows to use a certificate for WPA connexion before the Domain logon? Dany Chouinard C.S. Or-et-des-Bois Val-d'Or,Qc,Canada

Has anyone implemented a 3Com Managed Wireless networking solution with session load balancing across Managed Access Points? I am having difficulty in getting this to work using a 3Com WX2200 Wireless LAN controller and AP2750 configuration. According to the documentation, I need to specify a load balancing group for the MAPs but this seems to have no effect.

I wasn't 100% sure whether to post this - but it's something we're really proud to have achieved at Net-Ctrl and I decided to share it with you all. Net-Ctrl recently attended the Ruckus UK&I partner conference in Newport, Wales where we got the chance to hear from the senior leadership team and SE community at Ruckus about the latest technologies and market updates. The conference also hosted the annual partner awards, Net-Ctrl had been nominated for two awards based on FY23 performance and ability to deliver solutions and was awarded the Ruckus UKI Education Partner of the Year 2023 by the Ruckus senior leadership team. This award is a small demonstration of our ability to deliver in a competitive WLAN market, and partner community. We know there are a lot of great wireless integrators in the market so an award like this is something we’re really proud to have achieved and gives us comfort that what we’re striving towards is working. Those of you who have worked with us will know that we're a small dedicated team. We want to understand client challenges and design solutions that help solve these. If you find yourself in a situation where you’re considering your Wi-Fi or switching estates – please come and speak to us and hopefully you’ll see why we’re trusted to deliver Ruckus in schools and colleges throughout the UK. You can send me a PM on this account, or email me at .

Does any one else have the same problem as me, if you have a laptop with the broadcom wireless card in and you configure the wireless, turn off the laptop for the night, come back to it in the morning and try to log on to a domain without connecting with ethernet cable but making sure that the wireless is turned on, you get a 192.168.1.1 address and you dont get any drive mappings, but if you did the same procedure with a laptop with a intel wireless card, the laptop logs on fine with drive mappings. Can anyone explain why this happens? Ive also noticed, that first it was fujitsus that had this problem and thought it was only common to them, but then we have just bought a HP laptop and found out that these are fitted with broadcom wireless cards. Tim
