Hi Guys, I've had a look through the forums but can't see anything. At the moment in our college we have a large network of Xirrus Wifi points and allow students to connect their phones, tablets, etc up to them. The problem is, they have to manually input the proxy details for our filtering server to get out to the net. I've been trying to think of a way around this I could implement over summer, but WPAD doesn't seem to work well with mobile devices. Can anyone think of any ideas? Or is manual entry the best way? Cheers, Sam.

I work in a High School and a number of are teachers use laptops that they log on locally to, this allows them to use them at home, at my pervious job the teachers could come into the school and not have to uncheck the Auto Detect Proxy tab and re enter it every time they want to use the internet. Im sure this has something to so with the WPAD file that sits on the server! Im pretty sure I can find this however I don't want to touch it until I have a better understanding of what each section does! Can anyone help me with this issue?

Ok, Where to start! In are school teachers have a lot of laptops that they use locally therefore not picking up the proxy settings with out putting them in. What I want to do is to still allow people to bring in there laptops and just have them have the Auto Detect internet settings on. I hope this is making sense! I found this article: Automatic Discovery for Firewall and Web Proxy Clients This seems to explain what I want to do but im totally confused! are proxy is: proxy.embc.uk.com and the port is 80 plus theirs the usual proxy bypass exceptions. How on earth do I set this up! I very briefly saw it in my old school something to do with a WPAD file. Please Help any info anyone needs I will be happy to help out! Thanks

ok using Wpad for ages but I've discovered an issue! When using direct access (always on VPN thingy) the wpad is available and office tries to use the proxy and fails! function FindProxyForURL(url, host) { if (isPlainHostName(host)) { return "DIRECT"; } if (shExpMatch(host, "vpn.beaminster.dorset.sch.uk")) { return "DIRECT"; } if (shExpMatch(host, "*.dcc-sch-4505.local")) { return "DIRECT"; } if (shExpMatch(host, "*des.dorsetcc.gov.uk")) { return "DIRECT"; } if (shExpMatch(host, "*lbbij.dorsetcc.gov.uk")) { return "DIRECT"; } return "PROXY proxy1.rmsafetynet.com:8080; DIRECT"; how do I make wpad go direct if it is outside the domain. cheers

Hi All, Just wondering has anyone used WPAD and PAC files in their organization here, instead for pushing out a set proxy to access the internet? Have you experienced any pros and cons with Windows 10 using IE, Edge, firefox, etc...? Thanks -Ken

Having one of those days. Long story short, I need a way of changing the proxy address on a bunch of laptops and other machines which aren't the domain. I've done something similar before in DNS, where I created a record which pointed myproxy.myserver.com to a different IP address of a different proxy, this seemed to work well. I don't know how I can do it the other way round this time (I need to change the IP of the old proxy on the machines, to either the IP/Hostname of the new proxy) I don't know much about PAC/WPAD, is there anything magical there I can take advantage of? Short of visiting each machine, is there an easy way to do this?

Help please We have just bought 15 ipads and a mac mini server to manage them We have got apple config working and can get them to a basic config but when we then try and modify them thru profile manager they just will not talk to server or server talk to them We have a Enrollment certificate and all that it just hangs when trying to push anything out to them the mac server is called macserver.local and is not on any domains. I have a dns forward macserver.local to ip but it seems to me it is when the ipads are trying to get to http:// or https://macserver.local that it freezes. So I thought that I would do a pac file so that I can exclude macserver.local from proxy and go DIRECT but it does not work copy of pac file follows it works in that the DIRECT element goes to macserver.local but proxy bit does not work. My pc just hangs function FindProxyForURL(url, host) { // variable strings to return var proxy_yes = “PROXY 10.12.4.122:3128?; var proxy_no = “DIRECT”; if (shExpMatch(url, “*.macserver.local*”)) { return proxy_no; } // Anything else use the proxy else return “PROXY 10.12.4.122:3128" } Any help on this please Stuart

Hi Please can some one help me out and tell me bit by bit how to setup a wpad file with proxy settings for our wireless clients. Basically i have a Zone director 1100 and in my WLans list ive enabled Auto Proxy setting within the Advanced options. i want to be able to set the wpad file to be stored on my server using IIS. but I've hardly next to nothing experience writing a simple wpad file to tell our wireless clients what proxy address to use or setting this up in IIS. hope you can help Thanks

Hi, We're strongly considering using WPAD (as it's pretty cool) in our college to facilitate the application of proxy settings automatically to computers, laptops and peoples' own devices. One concern which was raised, which I'm having a little difficulty clarifying through Google is whether any settings applied by a WPAD are permanent or temporary. Ideally if a student's laptop joined our guest network, proxy settings were applied (automatically so we won't need to show them how) and then they went home and joined their own network, that those settings would then not be applied and interfering with thier connectivity. Has anyone here any experience with this? Thanks !

Hi All I have 3 cases which I would like to have clarified from some of you guys. We want to control all company pc's, and we have seen three use scenarios for this. 1: The pc's are on the domain LAN and should use the proxy settings to get out on the internet 2: The pc's are on the VPN and should be directed to the proxy for getting out on the internet 3: The pc's are not connected to the domain lan or the VPN, but should be forced to use a WPAD / PAC file or else for giving our IT Security the ability to track the internet behaviour We are a global company which is represented in nearly 50 countries. We have a CENTRALIZED setup which means that we have our AD DHCP and DNS in 2 datacenters in two towns in one country. Therefor all login are done via the centralized solution. We do not wish to decentralize this setup but want to accomplish the above use cases. I would really like to hear about possible solutions on the above mentioned cases. Thanks in advance Sanctus
