Good evening all, First of all, may I say what a great resource this site is. I've found many a resolution on here, it's usually my first port of call for any technical problems. Onto the problem; As a School I have configured a Proxy .Pac file for staff laptop users so they don't have to go through the mundane tasks of turning the proxy on and off depending which location they are - home or school. I have tested this on numerous laptops which seems to work great, apart from a few Windows 7 machines, specifically HP Probooks 6560b. I have the Pac file running from the local drive, currently set to http://file://C:\Support\Proxy.pac - as I said this works brilliantly for the majority, and does work for all staff in school. As soon as the users with Probooks take their laptops home it doesn's seem to work; I did a bit of research on this and found if you enter in a full stop after the file:// protocol (file://.C:\Support\Proxy.Pac) then it will work from home. This kind of defeats the object of the Pac file if they have to enter in a full stop to make it work at home. I'm just wondering if someone has come across this problem before, or if anyone has any suggestions as to why this is? May I also point out that all staff laptops receive the same GPOs. I look forward to a response, and hopefully contributing to resolutions for others.

Hi Guys, I have a proxy provided by the central management host which is http://web.site/cache.pac which i need to enter on every device for the proxy config. Is there anyway way to have Windows Server host this and not need to enter this info for every new device? WPAD is okay but again i need to select Auto-Proxy on the devices. Windows 10 is fine as its added through GP but on other device its an absolute pain to me. Thanks

We loan out ipads and run through smoothwall for filtering, does anyone know how to setup a timeout (we use ML server) so that after say 2 hours when the ipad is returned the next user gets prompted for their credentials? or even better whenever safari closes for you to re-authenticate??

Hi all, Having moved to Netsweeper with schools broadband, I need to redo our Pac file for our ipads etc. I have tried several pac files but all ways with errors, Can any help with simple guide or how to make pac file. Help please We have just bought 15 ipads and a mac mini server to manage them We have got apple config working and can get them to a basic config but when we then try and modify them thru profile manager they just will not talk to server or server talk to them We have a Enrollment certificate and all that it just hangs when trying to push anything out to them the mac server is called macserver.local and is not on any domains. I have a dns forward macserver.local to ip but it seems to me it is when the ipads are trying to get to http:// or https://macserver.local that it freezes. So I thought that I would do a pac file so that I can exclude macserver.local from proxy and go DIRECT but it does not work copy of pac file follows it works in that the DIRECT element goes to macserver.local but proxy bit does not work. My pc just hangs function FindProxyForURL(url, host) { // variable strings to return var proxy_yes = “PROXY 10.12.4.122:3128?; var proxy_no = “DIRECT”; if (shExpMatch(url, “*.macserver.local*”)) { return proxy_no; } // Anything else use the proxy else return “PROXY 10.12.4.122:3128" } Any help on this please Stuart
