Meru MC1500 controller and 10 APs. All fully working. We recently upgraded our WIFI so this is our old system. Controller has ears for racking as well as serial cable and software cd. Access points all come with 6 antennae and mounting plates. Any sensible offers considered as this is just sitting in a cupboard. Collection preferred from Primary School in Bromley, Kent. Willing to courier - but might cost a few bob! PM me if interested. Thanks!

"processed in a manner that ensures appropriate security of the personal data, including protection against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage, using appropriate technical or organisational measures." Is anyone considering looking at USB drive access and Wireless devices? I am considering turning both off until a 'complete' secure mode of operation can be achieved.

Morning, I currently have a load of HP Procurve 1800's 24/G and 1810's 24/G edge switches. They have done a fine job and when any have failed have been replaced without quibble. I am looking to buy a couple more edge switches but 1800 series are obsolete now. Any recommendations around the same pricing? Not had great experiences with Netgear over the years, so anything else would be good!

Hey I've got a new san and server combo. The 2 hosts are 2x10gbit each (lan) and the san is 4x 12gbit sas (2 to each host) I've added the new 10gig adapters to the Lan vswitch and kept an 1gig adapter in setup as standby. I've done a crystaldiskmark on the vms and the speed is amazing at over 3000MB/s I was testing file transfer by sending a 12GB ISO via SMB from one VM to the other but the transfer caps out at 1.6Gbit? is this expected, what should I look for?

Okay so but of a noob to all of this so please bare this in mind. The ICT department of the school I work at has requested Raspberry Pi. What they want is a Pi Net server PC built and in the corner of their department. It will dish out an IP address and an operating system over the internet and students can do projects. This wants to be done so that when a Pi is turned off it will lose all the data and reset as if brand new ready for the next student. Working from operating systems on SD cards would be too hard to keep track of. This being said if the Pi Net server is configured to dish out IP's, I'm concerned that it will dish them out all over the school so I'm trying to think of a way to contain the IP's and Pi. Am I asking for the impossible?

Hi All, I've been asked to look into some courses that I can go on. I currently work as the IT Network Manager at a growing school and need to go on some formal training. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on training courses. I am looking into managing a network and from what I can tell CCNA is more of building the network? So I thought CompTia A+ and Network+ may be the way to go. The only full-time, intense course providers I can see is FireBrand, who look a bit pricey. Does anyone know of any alternative providers that they've used? Just need a bit of guidance.

Hello everyone, As an iSAMS user, I've noticed how valuable it can be to connect with others in similar roles across different schools. Whether it's sharing solutions to common challenges, discussing best practices, or simply learning from each other's experiences, there's a lot we can gain from networking as iSAMS users. To that end, I’d like to open this thread as a space for all of us to share ideas, ask questions, and collaborate. Whether you’re from a school just starting with iSAMS or have been using it for years, your input is welcome. Here are a few suggestions for how we could use this space: Share tips and tricks that have worked well in your school. Discuss issues or challenges you’re facing and get feedback. Explore how other schools integrate iSAMS with third-party systems like CPOMS, GL Assessments, or Power BI. Discuss upcoming updates or features and how they might impact us. Connect to explore joint projects or solutions (e.g., Power Automate flows, SQL queries, custom reports). To kick things off: What’s one feature or integration of iSAMS that’s been a game-changer for your school? Is there a particular challenge you're currently facing that others might be able to help with? Let’s make this a valuable resource for everyone! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and connecting with you all. Best regards, Tom Head of Data & Systems Queen Ethelburgas Collegiate, UK (Feel free to share your role/title so we can learn a bit more about each other!)

Hi all, Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I've been asked by a school to look at their IT. They are google cloud environment with (2x) sites: One of the sites has an on-prem DC but the other one doesn't so people can't use their Windows devices at the other site, I'm looking to get a server installed for that site and to enable it to replicate to the other on-prem DC. How would I get the replication to work (apologies if it's a daft question) but I think the 2 sites are on seperate subnets so I just wanted to make sure I do it correctly. In terms of the hardware I'm looking at a: DELL PowerEdge R250 (Xeon E2314, 32GB RAM, 2TB HDD). If you need anymore information please ask & thanks in advance for any help / advice. Thanks, Nick

I'm setting up a virtual test lab, to kind of mirror my physical network. It will include both domain controllers and a couple of workstations. The virtual network will not be on the physical domain, in fact it's not even in the same building. Rather than do the whole thing "by hand", is there a way that I can copy, say the active directory structure and the GPOs across to the virtual environment? Or the folder and files tree perhaps? If I do that will access and security permissions be copied as well? Should I invest in some software to turn hard drives into virtual discs or is there an other way?

Hi All, I’m really keen to provide students with a sort of internal social networking site which they can use to create their own pages and share work and thoughts with their peers and teachers with the monitoring and moderating features also. It would be good to host the system internally but could be externally hosted too, it simply has to be a ‘closed’ network to only our students and staff. Does anyone operate a system like this and could give me any pointers to either open source solutions or a commercial product. Thanks in advance!

Ever want bigger switches and the ability to run all hosts on a single subnet without performance degredation. So did some researchers who have devised a way to make layer 2 switchind scale well beyond current barriers. University of California researchers are presenting a paper describing software that they say could make data center networks massively scalable. The researchers say their PortLand software will enable Layer 2 data center network fabrics scalable to 100,000 ports and beyond, and they even have a prototype running at the school’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering’s Jacobs School of Engineering. This inclueds a system that uses psudo MAC addresses to remove almost all of the nasty broadcasts that choke current networks at this scale. How to build a 100,000-port Ethernet switch - Network World The question is: How do you rackmount a 42u switch?

The Multimedia teachers are looking at moving away from graphics to video.. They've rightly seen the issue that having 30+ pupils editing video could be too intensive on the system. The PCs in the classroom are fine, however the pupils storage is all on a DELL SAN in RAID6 that may complain under such a load. if that wasn't the issue then 30 plus pupils storing gigs of uncompressible video to be backed up will take too long or too much space. (pupils have 2gb of network storage currently.) I can increase their storage quotas but the backup windows may get quite long on days after 30+ video edits have occurred. (backup is a raid5 HP server on 1 gig link, using vranger. backing up the whole VM incrementally) BUT Pupils have massive online storage via OneDrive and we have a 1000/200 internet connection.. any cunning way this can be leveraged?

Morning all, For those that haven't seen the other thread - we're running a BETT competition that could see you win an incredible looking LEGO Batmobile. One of our key focus for BETT 2020 is lockdown solutions to serve different demands and environments. At BETT 2020 we will be showcasing a selection of wireless, IP and wired lockdown solutions that ensure your staff and students are alerted of any potential threat situation, and to comply with some of the latest safety standards. We will have solutions from four manufacturers, each with their own approach and methodology to achieving a lockdown solution. These manufacturers include NEXUS, Bodet, Netgenium and FireClass. We have also noticed a requirement for better access control in schools and colleges. The challenge with a lot of access control technologies is a lack of integration. The end result is schools and colleges managing a number of different solutions individually. At Net-Ctrl our focus is on integration. We have been working with some select manufacturers in order to achieve this. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to protect those on your site(s) and manage and secure access. We will be demonstrating the integration between access control, intruder alarms, fire detection, wireless door handles, IP speaker solutions, and also IP-CCTV. We also have Ruckus on our stand. Ruckus is leading the way in wired and wireless technology to keep your users connected even in the most challenging environments. Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi and wired technology redefine what’s possible in network performance with flexibility, reliability and affordability. We will be focussing on their co-management options to simplify your deployments by having wired and wireless configuration changes in one place. We invite you all to come and see us at BETT 2020 we will have a number of demonstrations running and product experts on hand. We’re really excited for BETT 2020. Make sure you pay us a visit and stop by the Net-Ctrl stand – NN73. If you have any questions or would like to arrange a meet during BETT – please email [email protected], or comments on this thread. Partners at BETT 2020: Bodet: Integrated Bell, Class Change, PA and Lockdown Alert Systems CEM: Powerful Access Control and Integrated Security Management Systems with Fire Detection and Intruder Solutions Exacq: IP Camera Servers, Hybrid Video Records and Video Management Solution FireClass: Integrated fire alarm and detection solutions, with public address options Illustra: Adaptable and Flexible IP cameras including PTZ solutions Mobotix: High-Resolution IP-CCTV Camera and Video Door Entry Systems Netgenium: IP PoE Intelligent Audio and Lockdown Solutions NEXUS: Rapidly Deployable, Battery Powered and RF-based, School Lockdown Solutions Ruckus: Smart Wired and Wireless Solutions

Hi all, I consilidated two switches into a stack. both have multiple VLANS and I'll give an example here; sw1 vl 2, 3, 4 sw2 v 12, 3, 4, 5 I decided to re-use sw1 and keep the config and wiped sw2 and stacked. So far so good. After configuring the uplink trunk to allow vl's 12 and 5 this is what happens vl5 works fine vl12 picks up an IP address but can't go anwhere, can't ping the default gateway etc. It can ping other devices on the same switch stack. So conclusion is DHCP is fine as it uses broadcast any vl traffic for vl12 isn't leaving the switch. I can't see any reason why I've checked for relevant ACL's both on the edge switch and the core switch. These are all Cisco switches. Can anybody think of what I'm missing?

Hello. We are suddenly getting a load of BAD_ADDRESS in our DHCP leases, one of which is also our OSX Server (which isn't dishing out IP's so we can rule that one out) and also printing problems and intermittent internet. There are also the odd machines getting the yellow exclamation mark on the network connection with 'no internet available'. Any advice guys? It seems to have started happening since updating the server but I'm not 100% it's related and just one of those annoying coincidences.

I am currently studying my CompTIA Network+ course and i am due to complete it in February, and i have already completed CompTIA A+, along side also having an NVQ Level 2 in IT systems. My question is where should i go from here, and what options are available to me?? And what do potential future Employers look for? Any advice appreciated, but especially looking for people who have done what i have done Regards.

Hi Everyone, Just have a quick question for the masses. I've worked at several institutions before and I'm trying to gauge what is typical pracitce in an educational environment. When you guys have departments who need additional capacity at their end points (adding a network printer to an office, more workstations, etc.) what do you guys do? Does IT have an additional line ran to the endpoint from the IDF, or does the department pay for it? Perhaps you install a switch at the endpoint and increase capacity there? At my previous university we had a vendor who came out and ran network cabling, do you guys have on staff people that do this, or do you just use one of the methods above. I'm kind of against switches at the end point but that's what they've been doing. I want to talk my CIO into having a vendor who does this on an open PO or case by case basis.

Hi i am having problems with loads of trash packets being sent to the default gateway which then slows the network right down. our isp / lea people are saying that they are getting loads of packets from the following address 127.0.0.1 obv this is the address that you ping to check the local nic so i cant just do a quick search for it and then go and kill the device. or is there??? this is causing the network to slow down and causing the internet to freeze and hang also i have noticed lag in exploring the network caused by this back log of packets on the line. at the moment im switching off a building at a time and then having to call them back to see if they are still getting the packets. this work can only be done out of hours and only till 6pm as they go home so as you can guess this is a very slow!! does any one know of a faster way of doing this or how i can search to find out where this is coming from??

We now have purchased 24 NWA210Ax APs for our school. I have added one AP successfully to the Nebula Control Centre without any issues. I then attempted to add further 4 AP's but none of these talking to Nebula Centre. The LED's flash amber/green at 1 sec intervals and continue doing this indefinitely. We have done following white listing on the Firewall (Barracuda F80): Service FQDN IP Address Port Protocol Nebula Cloud Management (NETCONF) d.nebula.zyxel.com 34.247.112.130, 52.210.12.1, 52.48.115.44, 54.73.103.137, 63.32.141.172, 63.35.107.114 4335 / 6667 TCP Nebula Cloud Management s.nebula.zyxel.com Dynamic 443 TCP Network Time Protocol *.pool.ntp.org Dynamic 123 I thought it might be a switch issue, but then I wouldn't have been successful with the first AP? I have carried out firmware updates to the latest version and this has not helped either. We are using following network here: 10.121.120.0 255.255.252.0 We have some 400 hosts all getting IPs from DHCP and all going out via same single gateway. Can you please advise what can we do to resolve the issue.
