Hello, In recent months we've had a slow down of our wireless network. It's managed by a Cisco WLC and up until about three months ago we never had a performance problem. Nothing much has changed on the system but obviously something must be kicking it. My question is, does anyone else have a Cisco WLC and if so, do you have any method of seeing a traffic graph of the traffic from the clients in order to see where the load is coming from? Short of doing a wireshark capture on the card - which shows bits of broadcast traffic which I have eliminated - i'm at a loss. Any help would be much appreciated. Gareth

It does depend on the age of the system I think so if yours is newer than mine you might be ok.

Evening, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in but here goes... We had a problem with one of the revaluation units for our Nationwide Cashless Catering system just before Christmas. It was one of the few times an engineer came out to fix the problem as most of the issues are dealt with remotely. The engineer informed us that in 2015 when the new notes and coins come out our reval units won't accept them and need to be upgraded at a cost of around £5000. The engineer met with the Senior Technician as I was out of school that day, he passed on the message so I called them the next day. It gets worse. The new reval units don't work with our tills either. So essentially I need to replace the entire cashless catering system in 2015. Now - I totally get that if our kit is so old that it needs replacing when new coins and notes come out then fine. The kit is 5 years old! But, am I the only one who thinks this is crazy bad service to have this dropped on us (by chance really because if the call hand't needed this particular engineer, who knows when we would be told). Nationwide were planning on emailing all schools affected in January...when the machines need replacing that year! Sure, I've got 20k I didn't have anything to spend on in 2015! Anyone else use Nationwide and find themselves in this position? If you do, message me and we should club together and look at an alternative. Gareth

Yeah it works really well to create a backup and use this feature as a way of imaging the devices. The problem is that when you assign the devices out to a user, the device saves the data and settings. If you restore an updated backup to the device like you would to update it's settings or apps, then restore the users data and settings they override the settings you have just restored. Meraki is ok but I felt it was a bit overkill and complicated for the number of devices we have.

Help! I have a set of iPads in configurator. They are supervised and assigned to users. All works great. I can check devices in and out to backup and restore user data. But, if I want to make settings changes to all devices such as changing the folders that apps are in or the wallpaper, I check the devices in, apply a backup with those changes in but then when I check the devices out again those changes are undone. They are undone because the users settings override those in the backup that has just been restored. How can I keep user data but have the iPads update their configurations based on a new backup I have restored to them? Thanks in advance!!

For years now I have used mandatory roaming profiles for 99.9% of my users. These have worked great as the staff and students are constantly moving machines. We use these in combination with folder redirection and we redirect all the possible folders to the users home share. This has worked great but now that more and more things require user customisations such as Windows Store Apps and cloud services like GoogleDrive (which doesn’t support even standard roaming profiles) I now need to develop this solution. I'm fine with giving users as much freedom as possible, the only reason I used mandatory profiles was to improve reliability. How on earth do you get a nice, reliable and low overhead profile system whilst still giving users the freedom to customise as they wish. I've used standard roaming profiles but they seem to slow down after a while and we've played with UEV but that doesn’t support everything. I'm not really asking for the answer but more asking what do you do? Thanks

Ok I need I second opinion on this... We have three 2012 DC's. Two physical and one virtual. On some clients (not all) the virtual DC's netlogon share is there but empty. It seems to be related to error 5719 on the client which is a netlogon service authentication delay (due to our Cisco STP). However, even when this error occurs the other two DCs both show their netlogon shares without a problem. Why??!! I could understand it if they all showed blank netlogon shares. The virtual DC isn't any FSMO roles just a normal DC with Global Catalog. DNS resolutions all fine. We have scripts in our netlogon shares and any user using the virtual DC isn't running those scripts due to this error. It's very client specific in that it's not all PC's. They have no common NIC or other hardware, very random. Any ideas?? Gareth

Hi all. Does anyone know if you can create a closed email system in Office 365? In live@edu you could add a list of accepted domains. This would mean students were only able to receive mail from allowed domains (i.e. the schools domain). Anyone know if this is possible with 365? Thanks

Hi all, Has anyone managed to get Moodle 2.4 working with LDAP authentication against a Server 2012 DC? We're trying it and getting #61 Bind Result errors. Bind user settings are all correct but still no joy. Anyone else had this?

From September I am starting a major new project across the school titled ‘IT for Learning’. The aim is to get back to using IT for what it should be used for in a school; learning (or teaching!). The main focus of the project is to work through a series of mini projects with staff. Looking at how we can implement good practice with IT in small areas across the school. We hope to do this in so many areas that eventually they all join up. The projects can be hardware, software or just general practice based. I’m interested to know how you all take feedback or requests from your teaching staff in areas of IT development. Do you have focus groups or do you simply rely on staff requesting things/identifying potential developments for you. As an IT pro I can easily think up solutions; but how do you know what the problems/gaps are without being a member of teaching staff?

Hi all, Looking for a bit of advice with this as it’s driving me mad. Has anyone had a problem configuring Outlook 2010 for Outlook Anywhere on Windows 7? I’m getting a general ‘server unavailable’ error. All settings are configured correctly and on Windows XP they work fine. I’ve installed the SSL Certificate of the mail server in the Trusted Root Certificate Authorities of the Windows 7 machine (as suggested on some TechNet forums) but still no joy. The exchange server is running Exchange 2010 and all is working great on Outlook 2010 and Windows XP, just not 7. I’m sure I’m missing a simple step but can’t for the life of me figure out what. Hi all, This may already be talked about but couldn't find a thread. Is anyone using OWA as their primary email client for users. We've just upgraded to 2010 from 2003 and with the new OWA we decided to offer only that client for users. We've only been running about 2 weeks with it and had some moans and groans but mainly due to the fact it's just different. Anyone else had any experience with this setup. From a technical point of view we find it much better. Gareth
