Pupils are being told that they'll need help from us to continue using the facebook login (for our 6th form) on out Meraki devices... Anyone know what is going on?

Hoping that someone can help me out here with some ideas. We tweet out images of the school's day to day activities with the children. Currently, a staff member will snap an image, mail it over to the headmaster for "approval" and he will go ahead and post it with a bit of blurb. This year they also want to start doing short videos as well. I'm not loving the workflow we have going here. Having to email each post for approval to then be tweeted in turn is a pain in itself, including video files shot on an iPad the process is overly cumbersome. How do other schools handle the flow of social media content? Cheers

Hi just wondered if anyone else has had this wonderful issue. So you open Skype sign in and BANG Internet Explorer continuously tries to open Facebook until you quit Skype. Thought it may be a account issue but have now tried 4 accounts. Any suggestions or similar experiences. Cheers:confused:

Good morning All, Really hope you can help. I have a new technician who is of the 'always on social media' age. I'm about to have a word with them regarding the amount of time they spend on Facebook, or more accurately, Messenger. It is banned for everyone in the school (students, staff, admin, SLT, etc) except for us two. If it comes to it, is there a way of blocking Facebook/Messenger in Smoothwall by IP address? So I can block access from their office computer. I'm not a Smoothwall expert and have recently taken over the NM role. I assume that our sysadmin accounts are added to an exemption group. I would like them to still have full access to the internet (research and downloading drivers, etc) but no access to Facebook/Messenger. Is this possible? Thanks for reading, C

Hi all We have been on Twitter and Facebook for about 5 years now. Our success is very limited - we have just a few hundred subscribers and our content is not eye-catching/regular enough to really engage people. Our Head wants us to start using social media more, but as I have explained to her, one of the challenges that we face is getting good quality regular content. We are now down to just 2 IT technical staff - me and one other guy and we are run off of our feet, particularly as I also line manage the business support and facilities management too. Everyone here is very busy, so I don't see this shift being easy. Last week we staged a marketing meeting and got quite a bit of staff interest in involvement, however I think our Head doesn't want to load any more of this work onto teachers. I have said that I am happy to post things up, but that I need the content delivered to me rather than me walking around trying to find an interesting lesson to tweet about. I have setup a shared folder on the network and some staff have also begun emailing me content, not yet realising that captions (and 140 character restricted captions) are required. So how does everyone do it? Do you allow certain "champions" to have access to the Twitter and Facebook accounts and tweet live from departments? We are a little concerned for moderation and security of the account details on this, but are open that it could be an option... Do you have a shared folder? Perhaps with dates on it or something? Do they email it to you? Do you outsource your marketing? How does it work in your school? Any advice appreciated.

Hi all, Now this is a really annoying and unusual one. There are 2 members of staff at the school where i'm at who are having difficulties with FB. When they're logged into thw windows under their account and go onto facebook, login to facebook under their account after 5 seconds it comes up with an error "IE cannot display the webpage". Yet when i log into my fb account under the users windows account, it allows me on, and i can browse etc and do the normal facebook stuff, and the same happens when i logon to windows under my account (admin) it works for me on facebook but not for the user. Also sometimes it'll work like they'll be able to see the initial homepage but then when they go to click on a photo or anything it just comes up with the IE error. Does anyone have any clue what to do? I have recreated profiles, deleted browsing history/passwords etc etc and cannot think what to do now?

Do you use Google Apps for your pupil email? Do you use Objectionable Content or Content Compliance filters to copy you into messages with bad language, or to messages from certain senders such as Facebook? Did you know that in certain circumstances those messages won't actually be copied to you? No, neither did I. It seems that Google did, but hadn't really told anyone, and it took 5 weeks of back and forth with support before someone figured out that was what was happening in our case. Here's how it can fail: You have a compliance filter set up that when triggered, adds an extra recipient to the email (i.e. copies it to you or someone else tasked with monitoring). The filter also has the Prepend custom subject option enabled, (e.g. adding "Email misuse" to the subject). A message is sent from a sender that uses DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) on their outgoing mail server. The sender's DMARC TXT record in DNS is set to instruct mail servers to reject any message for which DKIM fails. In these circumstances, there is a very high chance that the message will not be delivered to the additional recipient. This is because DKIM indicates that the message is a forgery if the subject field is modified, so it is rejected as spam. For those unfamiliar, DKIM adds a digitial signature to the email based on the message body and some of the headers. The list of headers that is signed almost always includes the subject (as well as from, to, and any others the sender specifies). The sender can then add a TXT record in DNS that tells receiving mail servers what to do if the signature verification fails. In many cases, such as with Facebook, this is set to reject. When Google Apps modifies the subject, the digital signature is no longer valid, and Gmail will then automatically reject the message when it tries to deliver it to the additional recipient. So, guess who found out 5 weeks ago that he wasn't getting notifications that a load of under-13 pupils had registered for Facebook with their school email addresses? Workaround The workaround is simple once you know what is going on: don't use the Prepend custom subject option. Google are working on a fix, but it's not ready yet. The following is from the support engineer that dealt with our case, from whom I have permission to share this: In the meantime, check your filters and remove the custom subject option if you're using it.

I've just fired up my work PC this morning to be greeted on login to some dialog boxes asking if I want to install a certificate from Facebook. Obviously I'm not going to as this looks very fishy indeed, especially as it 'popped' up without a browser being opened. Anyone else seen or heard of this before? Time for a full system scan with Kaspersky I think.

Some of our school Governors have raised the possibility of using Facebook as a way of communicating with students, for example a Duke of Edinburgh group, alerting students to meetings and news etc. I'd like to gather your opinions on this subject, perhaps how it has worked (or not worked) in your school, opinions on safety and also how it might impact the Learning Platform (positive or negative). I look forward to hearing from you...

Anyone seen the trailer for the The Social Network Movie? What do you think? It reminded me a little of The Pirates of Silicon Valley Movie. The Social Network - Official Site
