Personal Information

  • Biography
After going back to Uni as a mature student for my degree, I started my IT career in a secondary school, in Hampshire. Was there for 6 years. Then moved to West Dorset to manage 8 primary schools within a partnership for 4 years. Came back to East Dorset and tried my hand in a MSP for a couple of years. Great pay and experience but crappy hours and lots of stress. Went back to education for just under 4 years in an academy. Moved to another MSP for a year. Now part of a three-man IT team for a leading vehicle recycling company.

  1. Unfortunately, my NM has disabled webmail for our M365 tenant 😞 He doesn't trust the users. Very much a 'least privileges' policy here.
  2. Looks to be back up as normal now
  3. Is anyone else experiencing issues with shared calendars? Ours go from Updating to No Connection (see attached). Is there anything going on at Microsoft?
  4. In my previous job we used MyConcern (https://www.ess-sims.co.uk/myconcern) It synced nicely with our AD/AAD and is compatible with SIMS. Worked really well and easy to manage/maintain Like DrCheese says above: Why reinvent the wheel and leave your school/successor a headache if/when you leave.
  5. Hi mitchell1981, Did you find an answer to this? We've got a similar issue. For example, the search name is 'Angela' or 'Ang'. The results for 'Ang' include the words 'Change' or 'Exchange'. Which is many emails.
  6. Can you log into their Outlook and set a forwarding rule? Creating rules can be very granular and would think this is possible.
  7. We had this issue in my last school. It turned out to be the type of HDMI cable that was installed with the SmartBoards. They were installed with HDMI 1.4 cables. These don't work too well with 4k screens over any length longer that a meter or two. The installation company had to come out and change them over to HDMI 2.0 or HDMI 2.1 (can't remember what they changed them too). No issues after that.
  8. I've recently moved on, but the last secondary school I was at had two CCTV cameras in each main IT suites (9) and one camera in each of the 6th Form IT rooms (4). We didn't have that many damages, but like mentioned previously, we found it happened more when lessons were being covered, or if the equipment was slightly older/slower that the rest Damages were reported straight away to us and CCTV footage was looked at to find who did it. Some cases lead to the parents paying for replacements (if it was a monitor/PC) most lead to the student having detention (keyboards/mice/other). We also had over 250 laptops dotted around the school on trolleys. These were signed in and out for each lesson. Damages found on these would be reported to the teacher and the last user was usually the person that did the damage.
  9. Could be just like during COVID. The teachers create the Teams Lesson and share the join link with the student. Yeah, pretty much just a webcam and mic needed. Can just point the class webcam to the whiteboard.
  10. I've used Movavi in the past. It's pretty good. Can miss the odd keyframe but easily rectified: https://www.movavi.com/support/how-to/how-to-blur-face-in-video.html Not sure if it's included in the free version. I used the minimum paid for version, which was around £60-£65 at the time.
  11. We had this issue too. As far as I can remember, there are two types of chat in Teams. I classed them as Global Chat and Team Chat. It looks like you have disabled the Global Chat - This stops the general chat function. But there is also a chat function per Teams lesson/class/meeting - This can be disabled in the team/meeting options.
  12. Can you do a manual install of Windows, then add it to the domain. See if it installs Teams. If not, remove from domain, then add it to Intune and see if Teams installs. May be able to find out what system is then installing it
  13. Is it being deployed via GPO?
  14. Hi All, Our broadband is up for renewal in March. Currently with RM/SWGfL. Not had much to complain about but obviously need to get another one or two quotes before Finance/SeniorTeam are happy. Was wondering if there are other schools on different suppliers in my area? We are a medium/large secondary in Dorset. Our main line is 1GB up/down, with a 80Mbps backup line. Anyone got any good suggestions? Kind regards, C
  15. Thank you all for your help. We found out where it's set:
