I don't know if we're unlucky, that all the splitters we buy happen to be made by the same shoddy OEM, or if it's somehow a product fundamentally prone to breaking, but HDMI splitters here seem to have the staying power of a paper hat in a rainstorm. We've had these in the past, and others of a similar design, and after a few months they either stop powering on or stop splitting the signal (i.e. only one output works). Anyone found any that are actually up to the job for more than fifteen minutes, and aren't ludicrously expensive?

Good morning/afternoon all! We're currently having some issues with several staff PC's across site not picking up a second monitor, only one at a time, updated/downgrade drivers, replaced cables.. you name it, we've tried it. We're currently using Windows 10. v.1607 Anybody else come across this issue? Thanks in advance, Joe

Hi All, Just a quick one .... We are about to replace all of the computers in our main IT room. At the moment we have some older Stone All-In-One PC's ... as these are pretty expensive to buy and I am trying to save money due to a very restricted budget we are getting conventional PCs, but are now in need of monitors. Traditionally we have always purchased hard glass screens to reduce damage but as these push the price up a bit we are looking at just normal soft TFT's. How many people have hard glass monitors or see the benefit in them? Those that don't have them, do you tend to see much damage? My concern is that because students/teachers are used to having hard glass monitors and know that touching them won't break them .. will they just presume and we accidentally end up with a load of damaged screens? Cheers Tom

Hi there. Has anyone had the issue where RM Ranger 8 will stop a log in with the message "Ranger License Server did not respond"? It may happen if the user tries again but will eventually allow a log in if the user keeps trying. There doesn't really seem to be any correlation to the issue and it can happen on any PC. It's really causing some stress. Lets say we have 400 log on's at one time only 4/5 will have this happen to them and the rest will log in no problem. First sign of the issue during log on: http://i.imgur.com/yQO7tk5.png Box which appears (user will be logged out): http://i.imgur.com/7dKa3UY.png Additional diagnostics: http://i.imgur.com/WZd9iW1.png I realise this is a complete stab in the dark but was just hoping to find others who have experienced the issue and what they did to resolve. Thanks for your time! -
HI.. First post here.. so here goes. Since the November Release (Dec 08) for updating SIMS in school from our LEA, we have had emence problems using Lesson Monitor under .NET. Prior to this upgrade.. we are happily using Lesson Monitor with 60+ clients for registration 5 times a day. The problem we have now is Lesson Monitor times out with an error of "The database query timed out : SIMS.Entities.DatabaseExceptionTimeout"" This happens at random times across the whole site either when loading the register or when saving the register. Before this upgrade we made no changes to infrastructure within the network and had no issues. We have no problems or timeouts in SIMS, the problem only exists within Lesson Monitor v6.56 Under our LEA's advice, we have; 1. Doubled the the amount of RAM in the server. 2. Modified the connect.ini file with a timeoutcommand of 150000 secs - This i disagreed with as im sure this is only for connecting to the main SIMS.NET Gui, and we dont have an issue here. 3. We have relocated the SIMS server within our network and changed its connection from 100Mb to 1000MB with a new switch (HP Procurve 2510G) 4. Our LEA installed a patch from Capita that was suppose to deal with the problem, but made no ounce of difference. Last contact from Capita, said they were working on better memory management for LM but it gave no time scale. Our LEA are saying the problem is our network, but we have no issues anywhere else on the network. And SIMS itself is fine just not LM. Anybody else have problems with timeouts in Lesson Monitor? Or can suggest things for me to check? Mr_P

Hi All, I recently designed a new desktop background for all curriculum computers. I created it as 1280x1024 because most of our screens are that size. However we do have a few classrooms with widescreen monitors. My question is, how do I set different desktop backgrounds depending on screen resolution? We are using bginfo and a script at the moment. Any help would be great. Cheers Scott -
Hey all I'm new here and a casual browser too - Thanks for all the help you have no idea how many times you've bailed me out So my boss has decided it's time for a sell off of equipment and one of the things to go are the Dell GX620s we have in store. We've got about 20 of them so thought I'd put them on here if anyone is interested in buying them. Specs are as follows: Processor: Intel Pentium 4-HT 2.8GHZ RAM: 1GB RAM HDD: 80GB Hard Drives Also CD/DVD RW Drive Dell 17" monitors They come with keyboards, mice, stands, power packs etc. They're great little work horses and should be good for further use. We're based in London so it would have to be collection unless perhaps maybe a pallet delivery but we can discuss that. He said to put them up for £40 a piece (£800 the lot) - but since we're selling the lot we can negotiate the price. Still good price for a complete system. Anyhow thanks again everyone, if you're interested please get in touch. I do have more equipment so should be putting more stuff up for sale. G Kwengi -
Hi All, We've been trying to use Impero (5.2.10) for our Prevent and Safeguarding strategies by enabling the keyword policies and viewing violations however there seems to be much functionality missing or incomplete that make it unsuited for our needs. For example applying any sort of filter to the reports returns zero results and you can't select a group or multiple policies to report on - instead we'd need to run a report for every keyword policy (about 10) and then manually combine the data. Oh and don't even get me started on the 'export' option when viewing a report in Log Viewer - the most pointless button I've ever seen. It all just seems very poorly thought through and cobbled together without much insight into how the end user may actually need to use it. Has anyone successfully implemented anything with Impero where the reports are of any tangible use and which doesn't involve hours of time compiling stats yourself? I have asked Impero but it's been a day since sending my email and I have still haven't received even an acknowledgment of my message so support are their usual speedy selves. Thanks Ryan -
Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for any commercial systems that could be used to monitor site wide power, gas and water usage on a per-building basis. We're keen to be able to pull the live stats on the digital signage total use and per building, and use this in lessons and to push energy saving. If anyone has any recommendations or suggestions as to how they go about this, any advice is very welcome! Cheers -
Hi all, I managed to pillage a spare monitor a few weeks back to get a dual monitor set up in my office. The problem is, they're different makes of monitor (one's a gnr, the other's an acer) and slightly different sizes (although that doesn't really bother me). What is bugging me is that no matter how much I mess with the colour/brightness/contrast settings on the monitors or through Catalyst, I just cannot get them to match up, not even close! The gnr is much 'warmer' looking, even if I turn down the reds and increase the blues, and the acer is much more saturated, again even when I turn down saturation. I'm not expecting to get a perfect match given that they're totally different monitors, but does anybody know of any (free) software I can download or a good website I can use that will aid me in setting them up to look as similar as possible? Thanks, Josh -
Hi All, About a year ago we replaced SLT PC's with the slightly more powerful Zoostorm PC's. They seem to work great, however there is a persistent issue we just can't get to the root cause of. Regardless of if they are using 1 monitor or 2, the monitor that is set as 'main monitor' in display settings will black out every so often for a couple of seconds. We have checked absolutely everything we can think of - refresh rates, downloaded new drivers inc. AMD Adrenalin. The issue is happening regardless of monitor brand, size, resolution, display connection (hdmi or vga) and I am at a loss! I have sent a few emails to Zoostorms support to no real achievement, they suggested the same things we had already tried. Any ideas or suggestions I would be extremely grateful for, or even to hear that anyone else has experienced this! Jay -
Hi all,I have my computer connected to my Acer ConceptD CP3271KP monitor with Display Port cable and my PS5 connected with HDMI cable. At the moment if I have my computer on and switch on my PlayStation the PlayStation connection won't take over PC so I need to change the input on the monitor manually from DP1 to HDMI1.Is it possible to make my monitor to switch to my PS5 automatically as I switch it on while my PC is on? or use some software to do that? Thanks -

Nearly all (over 300) of our monitors are AG Neovo E-17DA models. Over time, we have identified two recurring faults with them: Monitor doesn't power up (Problem: 1 bad solder joint) Monitor displays image for half a second before disappearing (Problem: bad capacitors) Our problematic monitors were originally repaired under warranty, but now we have a large number that are no longer covered. Having nothing to lose, we set about attempting to repair these ourselves, saving us £130 per unit in the process. You can find a HOWTO guide (with photos) that I put together here: Neovo LCD repair - Bishop Barrington IT Support Hope that's useful to someone - enjoy.

I have used hard-glass AG Neovo monitors for 5 years and rarely had a problem. Lately I have had a few fail and came to report one as faulty to be told I MUST have a proof of purchase. This is never usually a problem because they have either failed in the first year or I have been able to get a copy of the invoice off the reseller. My problem on this occasion was that the invoice has been archived (a common practice in education and time consuming to 'un-archive') and the supplier has gone bust. No problem thought I, they will have my details on record as being a customer and on this unique occasion they will be able to make an exception. How foolish was I to think that? After 3 weeks of conversations, I have now been told that it is tough and I will have to provide a proof of purchase if I want the monitor replacing! I have now found an alternative monitor which guarantees better customer service for less money - a review will come soon. I will not be going back to AG Neovo unless they rethink their attitude towards the education market.

Hello, dear community, After moving to a new apartment, I made a work/playtime space in the living room next to the TV. I took advantage of the short distance of the computer from the TV and connected the video card to the TV as well. So I have a monitor connected to my NVIDIA card via HDMI cable and the TV via DisplayPort cable. When I'm on the computer and the TV is off, I sometimes hear the sound of a device disconnecting and then connecting again. Through various methods, I have excluded everything except the connected TV. I use Win + P to switch screens, either duplication or expansion. I could even get used to that irregular TV reconnect sound, but every time it reconnects, the PC freezes for a second. Which is quite annoying while playing a video game. I've searched all over the internet, it seemed like I've even found the same problem, but nobody helped the person in question. I'm going to try it elsewhere after a few years, so hopefully I'll get lucky. The only solution I have found is to disconnect the cable from the TV or PC, but due to the location of both devices this is very impractical and annoying. Would there be any way to hard disconnect the TV without having to pull the cable out? I can think of a BAT file or a PowerShell script that would disable the "monitor" and then enable it again when I restart it. But I don't know how to do it... o.o Addition: I use Windows 10. Thanks in advance for any answers and advice! -
Good afternoon We're in the process of setting up staff members with Surfaces and whilst most of the switch over is going well, there is one slight issue. We use Surface docks, so that teachers can effortlessly move from room to room with their Surface, plug in the dock connector and away they go. This works perfectly for peripherals such as keyboards and mice, however we've noticed a number of teachers having problems when duplicating their Surface's onto external screens. The current set up is that rooms have a Surface dock, a monitor and an interactive board. The majority of teachers wish to duplicate their Surface screen to the other two displays. Devices are set to duplicate display. However, this isn't always successful. It will instead do any of the following: - It will duplicate the Surface display onto the monitor, but not the interactive board. - It will duplicate the Surface display onto the interactive board, but not the monitor. - It will duplicate the Surface display onto the monitor and turn the interactive board into an extended display (even though it's set as duplicate). - And in rare cases (often after messing around with it for a while), duplicate the Surface display onto both the monitor and interactive board. I've done some research and some people say that you can not duplicate to more than one display. I'm not sure of the authenticity of these claims, especially as we sometimes get it working! As it stands, we have one teacher who is happily duplicating all three screens - but to be honest, I'm not sure how we got this working! I would be hugely grateful if anyone can provide anything we could try, or if you have experienced a similar issue? Thank you!

Hiya Guys, Don't know if you can help me but this is causing a real headache for me ... and I'm getting fed up of it now ... dont know what else to try. I have 5 Stone SFF PC-1102's with Intel DH55TC motherboards. These have the dual output (DVI-D and VGA). With these 5 computers they each have an Iiyama Prolite P1905S attached, these are connected through DVI-D and they also have a projector each attached, through VGA. The problem that I am having is that when some of the teachers switch the computers on there is no picture being outputted to the Iiyama monitor, only their projector. They then have to use the Intel HD Graphics Utility to clone the output to both, so somewhere it is losing this setting. Also when the monitors go to sleep, when the teacher tries to wake back up, by either tapping the keyboard or wiggling the mouse, the monitor again wont wake up. In the BIOS I have set the primary and secondary outputs, Primary being DVI-D and Secondary being the VGA. I have tried to find drivers for the monitor, but Iiyama dont supply any, I have been in contact with them by email as well. Tried updating the Intel HD Graphics driver, but the Intel website seems to be running very slow for me today and even when I do run the Auto-Detect utility, when I click on the Download link the file can not be found. Really, really stuck and don't know what to try. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Tom

Hi, at the moment in our church, we have two monitors at the back and a screen and projector at the front. The output to the second screen is displayed on the projector via a CAT5 VGA extender. This is basically sending the VGA over the CAT5 because of the long distance. We now want to put a splitter at the projector end so that we can have some more monitors at the front - the same as whats on the screen. I have heard that there are some units that will have a CAT5 input and 4 VGA outputs but I can't find any anywhere. The other option is to have the VGA reciever there and then a seperate splitter. Does anyone know where I can find a CAT5 input and 4 VGA output unit? thanks!! James.

Hi all. Long time reader though not much of a poster usually, but.. I've received a batch of shiny new wide TFTs, but after hooking up to a machine with a 4:3 projector there's an typical expected problem when it comes to resolution. (All machines go through splitters, not dual output.) At the moment I've gone with 1280 x 768, but this means either a letterbox or vertically stretched image on the projector, and obviously a res for the projector means a fat image on the monitor. Does anyone know of a solution to suit both devices? It's driving me mad as it seems so obvious, and I've already melted my head in VB today. Thanks in advance, Andy

Hi all, Due to building design we plan to use a VGA Cat5/6 extender to allow teachers to have a second monitor to their desk. To give you an idea of the layout its a relatively new school, our science classrooms have a teacher desk which is an island, the only way for teachers to have a monitor on their desk is to either have wires across the desk (which is a no go from the start) or use the infrastructure of the network cat6. Each island has a network port and so does the interactive board / PC. our network runs to a hub room on the same floor. To test the deployment we purchased a portta vga extender https://www.port-ta.com/extender/vga-extender/porttar-vga-utp-extender-with-audio.html At first all seemed well, however I and the teacher have noticed an issue with the colour sync with the monitor that uses the extender, Blue seems to be more shifted to the right then other colours which causes a slight blur, which with long use can cause the teacher to have a headache. any suggestions with what I can do to realign the colours? Does anyone else use an extender and have seen this issue before? I have tried to adjust the res, and the gain & flex Cheer all.
