I don't know if we're unlucky, that all the splitters we buy happen to be made by the same shoddy OEM, or if it's somehow a product fundamentally prone to breaking, but HDMI splitters here seem to have the staying power of a paper hat in a rainstorm. We've had these in the past, and others of a similar design, and after a few months they either stop powering on or stop splitting the signal (i.e. only one output works). Anyone found any that are actually up to the job for more than fifteen minutes, and aren't ludicrously expensive?

We installed a £80 25meter fiber optic HDMI cable from CPC... Not a great experience. So DEVICE, HDMI CABLE, PROJECTOR. it didn't always work, in the end as laptops would work 100% and the PC wouldn't we assumed that the PC had an iffy HDMI port or card, so we purchased a new graphics card.... Come the time to use a different laptop anddddd nope. No signal... other laptops yes not this one... F me. I bought this to fix the issues, so this is just an FYI for the archives... https://www.amazon.co.uk/KabelDirekt-active-repeater-signal-amplifier-black/dp/B076PB728Z/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1P4YUQ4W7RV26&keywords=hdmi%2Brepeater&qid=1656515891&sprefix=hdmi%2Bre%2Caps%2C81&sr=8-3&th=1 its an HDMI repeater, really for copper cables.. but it fixed the issue. it uses USB power to BOOST the signal... I suspect the optical converter in the 25M cable needs ooompf that some HDMI ports can't provide.

Just purchased a Dell Optiplex 3040 which only has HDMI and a Display Port. When the HDMI is connected to a HDMI splitter (one output to the teachers projector, the other output to the teachers first monitor) and the display port to the second monitor (desktop extended across both screens) for some reason the 3.5mm audio output at the rear does not work. I know that HDMI streams audio as well but surely when something is plugged into the 3.5mm audio jack the sound should bypass through this rather than the HDMI. Otherwise what is the point in supplying the computer with HDMI and an external audio. Any ideas?

I have recently bought a dvi to HDMI cable in order to plug my pc into my Plasma screen tv... however when i plug it in an error comes up on my tv saying video not supported. i have changed the resolution on the pc by connecting it to a moniter via VGA but no luck... any ideas?

Hi All, I can see lots of threads with people having similar issues but we're looking at rolling out large screens to replace projectors these don't have the freeze image function which is turning into more of a sticking point that I'd like. Is anyone aware of a device to sit inline with the HDMI input to achieve this? I'm aware of the option to extend the desktop but we're hoping to roll out Chromecasts to allow us to transition away from HDMI cables to the faceplates that seam to just get broken repeatedly. I fear I'm looking for something that doesn't exist but thought it was worth an ask. Thanks in advance. Simon

Hi all,I have my computer connected to my Acer ConceptD CP3271KP monitor with Display Port cable and my PS5 connected with HDMI cable. At the moment if I have my computer on and switch on my PlayStation the PlayStation connection won't take over PC so I need to change the input on the monitor manually from DP1 to HDMI1.Is it possible to make my monitor to switch to my PS5 automatically as I switch it on while my PC is on? or use some software to do that? Thanks

can anyone please help? I am trying to set up some Raspberry pi on an RM CC4 network using dvi/hdmi adapters as space is limited. The dvi/vga switch on the side of the monitor is not allowing me to switch between the 2 on some of the machines. On some of them it will work then it won't, reverting to the VGA display after a few seconds. I have tried changing the HDMI cables and switching adapters and trying a different Pi. Can anyone please advise? I have a year 6 code club after school who are looking forward to using the Pi and will be disappointed. Any advice gratefully received Mel

Hi, hope someone is able to help me out with this setup. I have been given the task of using HDMI over Ethernet to display a video on a television screen in the main reception of our small business. I went with the ESYNiC 120m HDbitT HDMI Extender Ethernet Network Extender option as it supported being distributed over switches. I purchased the NETGEAR GS108E-300UKS and went with the recommendation of assigning the ports to a VLAN (VLAN 3), with ports 5 on the respective switches tagged (1x in reception, 1x in Server room). I additionally setup a VLAN 2 whereby ports 2 and 3 tagged. The rest of the ports are disabled. However, when I'm connecting it, both switches are plugged in and VLAN 2 appears to communicate fine. However, VLAN 3 can't communicate with the sender device in the Server room. There is one port patched in the room, which is connected to an unmanaged switch which is fed off VLAN 2. By my basic understanding of Layer 2 switches, the nodes cannot communicate through VLANS, this is an advantage of layer three? We cannot afford layer three switches, or anything above what we have already bought. I understand my setup won't work as the only uplink for the switch is on VLAN 2 and thus won't communicate. These switches are "SMART" meaning they are configurable via a Web browser. I have been using the 802.1Q VLAN setup option. Is there an option on these switches to configure a, say "master" uplink for all VLANS? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? Does anyone have these switches, or can provide me with a resolution? We are really short of cash, and need the switch in reception to serve computers, it cannot be directly patched. As soon as we connect the HDMI extender to VLAN 2 we get an image however the data floods the network and thus knocks off the Wireless. In simple terms, I want to use the switches we've got and use port 5 for HDMI (VLAN 3), ports 2,3 and 4 I want to use for two computers in our reception, on VLAN 2. Cheers for the info you provide. We are a small business and I don't work there full time. I hope we have all the equipment we need? Appreciate any guidance.

So... we're having a new build and have made the call that all the display wiring needs to be HDMI as VGA is being phased out but Windows defaults to sending sound over HDMI and disables the headphone jack for speakers. Does anyone have any ideas of how we can solve. We don't want to constantly have to change defaults.

Hey all, We had a could of classrooms refitted over the summer with HDMI AV setups (PC HDMI out to HDMI switch to HDMI wall plate to HDMI projector) and we are seeing problems where the connectors will move a little cutting the display. It seems the slightest movement of the console or brush past the wall plate will affect the setup where as the DVI / VGA connectors screw in and stay put. I have thought about hot-gluing the connectors at the sides but don't know how effective this would be on the metal wall plate / back of a PC. Is anyone else finding this? Any other ideas on making the connectors teacher / student proof? Thanks James.

Good morning all, I'm looking for some help/suggestions with regards to an issue we are having with the secondary output to the projector, which suddenly loses signal at random times during Lessons. We've recently had our AV breakouts and wiring updated to HDMI by an AV company and the output drops when using HDMI-HDMI connections and HDMI-DisplayPort via a display port adapter. When switching back to VGA and an audio cable everything starts to work again. So far the team onsite has done the following troubleshooting steps but it still randomly stops working. -Teacher computers are HP Pro One 440 G4 23.8-in AiO. BIOS to latest version, some machines work on HDMI-HDMI some don't -Tested with different HDMI cables both at the machine side and with the one through the ceiling which is 10m -Only seems just to work perfectly with VGA + audio cable -Updated video card drivers with latest version -A laptop works via HDMI but still intermittent -Project Epson EB-X39 (currently awaiting the onsite team to update firmware on the unit) Any other suggestion on things to try would be welcomed or experiences of something similiar as it's really starting to cause headaches. Thanks, Jonny

I saw this conclusion for a HDMI cable. if this is how they review a digital cable then how skewed are the other reviews, or how full of nonsense?

Any AV nerds on here, I aware that since HDMI 1.4 that an ethernet channel has been included. This is supposed to allow an internet connected device share it's internet connection, say a tv can share with a games console via the HDMI. Has anyone seen this in the wild?

Very recently i came to know about the various cables that can be used to connect ur laptop to ur tv.However i found out that there was only one vga port on my laptop and also my lcd tv,so i had to buy a vga to vga cable(about 1m long),however i am finding transparent ghost images produced by the cable and im sure its not the monitor or tv.So i searched for the solution everywhere on the internet and the only thing i could find is keeping the cable away from other wires and reducing electromagnetic interference. This sure reduced its effect to a minimal level but i was wondering whether there is a way to totally remove this ghosting effect?Would a vgi to hdmi converted give me a perfect result?Or is there something else i can do?I am ready to spend a few bucks for the perfect picture.i also know about the ferrite coated cables but not sure whether it would be the PERFECT solution. Heres info about my laptop Compaq Presario CQ56-206SA Notebook PC Product Specifications Compaq Presario CQ56-206SA Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) my tv has 3 hdmi ports,2 usb ports and a vga port

Hi everybody, I have a classroom with a HDTV. I have been hooking up a laptop, via HDMI cable, to view DVD/BD's and web content (YouTube or live streaming through a website). The thing is I am now after something more permanent and static, but without taking up too much space, or breaking the bank. So I don't want an all-singing-all-dancing full sized tower PC, and wondered what people might be using that's nice and small, but powerful enough to stream video from the internet onto a HDTV? Thanks Glenn

Hi guys I don't quite know if this is a Windows 7 problem or if it is just me making a dreaded USER ERROR. I've recently bought a new Graphics card and installed it, all works fine. VGA works fine, DVI works fine and so does HDMI EXCEPT, no matter what resolution i put the graphics card to, i can't see all of the screen when it's plugged into HDMI. It's not much but enough for me not to be able to see the start menu, nor can i see the first column of installed programs/shortcuts on my desktop. I can't seem to fathom this out for the life of me? Is it something really simple? Please help as i would love to play my games on my telly on HD instead of standard VGA or DVI?

All, We have a few Ctouch screens in one building. We're having an odd problem with one of them. A few months ago the computer attached to that screen stopped detecting it. We replaced cables, went directly to the screen (avoiding the wallbox), tried both HDMI inputs on the screen itself. Nothing would work. We moved a known working PC into that room and it started working. We put the not-working computer in an office where the HDMI port wouldn't be needed and all was good. Until last week when the same thing happened in the same room with the PC that was working before it was moved and had been working fine. All the same tests were done and the only thing that would connect to the screen was another, different (ie third) PC. This worked and all was fine. Until today when THAT PC, the one that was working on Friday last week, suddenly refused to connect to the Ctouch. All the usual tests were carried out and nothing worked until i put another (fourth) computer in the room. That is there now and as far as I am aware, still working. I refuse to believe that we have had four computers all fail with exactly the same fault in the same location in the space of a few months. I just don't understand what the cause could be. Is it possible that the HDMI ports on the Ctouch could be the problem? IS there enough power in an HDMI cable - going BACK to the computer - to blow something? The one thing that hasn't been done, to my knowledge, is to try one of the no longer working computers on a different Ctouch.... Any other ideas?
