At my schools the generic network is vlan 1, servers and managment vlan 20 and wireless vlan 100. right now they are static vlans. We are a 100% hp procurve shop. 5406 core, 3500ly edge I could use some advice on "laptop mobile lab carts". we purchased 8 and they have our ap installed in them. so a teacher can check one out, take it to class plug in the carts network jack and power, off they go. so inorder for the ap in the cart to get vlan 100, i either tag all ports on all switches in vlan 100 or use gvrp (read this is a possible nightmare) or other (not sure of any other option). i don't see an issue with tagging everything vlan 100, destops will continue to operate on vlan 1 and ignore the tagged traffic. But does anyone have any other suggestion? Thanks!

With Easter now behind us, we, and i'm sure a lot of you will be looking ahead and planning for the summer. One of the biggest challenges we face is letting our clients, and Edugeek members know everything that we do. Hey all, I'm currently setting up Packetfence for the first time, and I've never setup a NAC before. I've installed Packetfence 4.6.1 on a Debian Wheezy 7.8 server with 2 NICs and I'm stuck. eth0 is the external one without VLANs and the other (eth1) is the trunk for the 3 VLANs I've created (VLAN2-4). I can successfully login locally with the demo user account. After that I get "Unable to detect network connectivity" Devices: PacketFence / Debian Wheezy 7.8: HP Proliant dl360 G7 Cisco 2960-C Cisco Aironet 1142 (autonomous modus, not lightweight AP) Clients / windows 7 professional: HP Elite 8200 VLANs: VLAN2: Management VLAN - 192.168.20.0/24 VLAN3: SMS-Authentication - 192.168.30.0/24 (for devices connected via wireless) VLAN4: ActiveDirectory-Authentication - 192.168.40.0/24 (for devices connected via cable) Here are some network diagrams, configs and log: http://penrose.ch/packetfence/layer2.png http://penrose.ch/packetfence/layer3.png http://penrose.ch/packetfence/webifconf/general.PNG http://penrose.ch/packetfence/webifconf/network.PNG http://penrose.ch/packetfence/webifconf/trapping.PNG http://penrose.ch/packetfence/webifconf/inline.PNG http://penrose.ch/packetfence/webifconf/portal-profiles_default-portal.PNG http://penrose.ch/packetfence/packetfence.log.txt Sorry for my poor English. We currently have a number of Ruckus promotions running until the end of the year. Please see below for a brief overview, if you have any questions please PM or comment on this thread. Wireless Upgrade Promotion If you have an old Ruckus or competitive wireless solution in place we can get access to additional discount to support your upgrade. The upgrade can be using any one of Ruckus management options including ZoneDirector 1200, Unleashed (controller-less), virtual SmartZone or physical SmartZone. Wireless and Switch Promotion If you are looking at upgrading your wireless and switching promotion we can get access to additional discount to support your move. These need to combine the Ruckus wireless portfolio and their ICX switch portfolio. If you go towards the SmartZone solution there is also the ability to manage and configure your ICX switch deployment from the SmartZone dashboard. Wireless Surveys Promotion Net-Ctrl offers free-of-charge predictive surveys to all of our clients. All we need is a set of site plans and as much information you can provide about your built environment and your users and devices. We will use specialist wireless software to build a report that will predict various performance metrics based on our AP locations. Should you want to proceed with an on-site survey, there is a cost of £650 (per day). If you then purchase the proposed wireless solution from Net-Ctrl we will refund 50% of the survey price. About Net-Ctrl Net-Ctrl has been a Ruckus partner for over 10 years. We are a top tier Ruckus partner. I am tearing my hair out setting up a vlan for guest internet access (and I don't have much to pull out) and I would appreciate some guidance please. Our setup is as follows: Core Switch HP 6600ml DHCP Range (Vlan 1 - 10.66.28.0/22, Vlan 32 - 10.66.32.0/21) Ruckus wireless AP (Guest WLAN - Vlan ID 32) Ruckus Zonedirector 3000 (on native Vlan ID 1) Microtek Router (on Vlan ID 1 - 10.66.28.1) I have set up the new vlan (32), tagged the relevant ports and created a new IP Scope on our DHCP Server. If clients connect to the main WLAN, they receive an address from the 10.66.28.0/22 range and connect to the internet with no problems. When connecting to the Guest WLAN, clients receive an address from the correct guest ip range (10.66.32.0/21) and when they open a browser it points them to the Ruckus Guest Authentication page. Once authenticated, they should then be redirected to their page (e.g. google.co.uk). It is obviously trying to redirect, but fails with "the site cannot be reached". I think the issue is to do with routing between the two vlans, but I have checked and rechecked the switch config and can't see where I have gone wrong. I should point out that vlans are very new to me and i'm learning (this week) as I go, so I could be completely wrong here . Here is my config: ip routing vlan 1 name "DEFAULT_VLAN" untagged 3-15,17-18,21-24,25-28 ip address 10.66.28.39 255.255.252.0 tagged 1-2,16,19-20 ip igmp exit vlan 32 name "Guest_WiFi" ip helper-address 10.66.28.42 ip address 10.66.32.4 255.255.248.0 tagged 1-2,16,19-20 exit ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.66.28.1 router rip no auto-summary default-metric 4 redistribute connected redistribute static exit spanning-tree vlan 1 ip rip 10.66.28.39 exit vlan 32 ip rip 10.66.32.4 exit no autorun no dhcp config-file-update no dhcp image-file-update Basically, what have I missed? Ta very much Tony

Very recently i came to know about the various cables that can be used to connect ur laptop to ur tv.However i found out that there was only one vga port on my laptop and also my lcd tv,so i had to buy a vga to vga cable(about 1m long),however i am finding transparent ghost images produced by the cable and im sure its not the monitor or tv.So i searched for the solution everywhere on the internet and the only thing i could find is keeping the cable away from other wires and reducing electromagnetic interference. This sure reduced its effect to a minimal level but i was wondering whether there is a way to totally remove this ghosting effect?Would a vgi to hdmi converted give me a perfect result?Or is there something else i can do?I am ready to spend a few bucks for the perfect picture.i also know about the ferrite coated cables but not sure whether it would be the PERFECT solution. Heres info about my laptop Compaq Presario CQ56-206SA Notebook PC Product Specifications Compaq Presario CQ56-206SA Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) my tv has 3 hdmi ports,2 usb ports and a vga port

We're using SCCM 2012 to image all our computers and have been since last summer. What we've found over time is that SCCM seems to "forget" the MAC address of the wired nic of laptops who only use wireless for connecting. Seems like it would be fine since it does update the computer's record with the wireless MAC address and software deployments work fine over wireless. The trouble comes in when we want to reimage the computers using PXE and have to use the wired card. It doesn't work seemingly because SCCM doesn't recognize the MAC address. On the flip side, we have SCCM setup to "ask" if an unknown computer should be image (we have an optional deployment setup for unknown computers, so you have to hit F12 to get it to run on PXE boot) -- but the computers SCCM "forgets" don't ask to take the optional deployment. So in reality, SCCM isn't forgetting the wired MAC, it's just not using it. Any suggestions on how to get SCCM to keep the wired MAC address "active" without telling teachers to plug the laptops into the wired network periodically? My techs and I have tried searching, but we're either using the wrong keywords or no one else is having the issue -- which I find hard to believe. Thanks, Bryan
