Hi, I am aware that this topic has been discussed a lot but i`m still a little unsure. Our school is looking into having a screen in the entrance hall. What my thought are is to get a LED screen and use one of our spare baseunits plugged in through VGA to control what is displayed. We will be using it to show pictures, school news, videos of activities. The base unit will be situated nearby and updated every week. Will this work and can anyone suggest any good/fairly cheap software to use? Does it need to have internet connection or is there some software that just works standalone with the screen? You can tell i`m all new to this! Also, if there is anyone in the area (Derby) who has a set up that I could come and see, please get in touch! Thank you for your help!

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for any commercial systems that could be used to monitor site wide power, gas and water usage on a per-building basis. We're keen to be able to pull the live stats on the digital signage total use and per building, and use this in lessons and to push energy saving. If anyone has any recommendations or suggestions as to how they go about this, any advice is very welcome! Cheers

As the title says we are looking to procure a large armoured screen for our PE department. They want to use it in the sports hall and gym, therefore needs to be mobile. And as you know, students aren't always that delicate so it also needs to be able to take a good beating. Think we need one that is a minimum of 52". Can anyone make a recommendation? Thanks!"

We have a bunch of old Exterity IPTV boxes here and I was wondering if anyone knows of any ways they could be re-purposed for use with third party software or similar?

First, I hope this is in the right section. Admin please feel free to move this thread to the correct section. This is my first post here. I figured it was about time I gave back to the community. Any case, back to the subject! I’ve been doing R&D on a digital Signage project. Our One-LAN NTB115 gave up the ghost, which was a big shame I can tell you! Glad to see the back of it. (I'm sure the latest versions are fine) So Looked at a few options that could provide support for all major formats and provide individual content over the whole site. Also we didn’t have too much of a budget, so I stumbled upon this... Digital Signage | FREE Professional Digital Signage for everyone Adobe Air based, using a very simple interface and full support provide via tutorial video and live chat. Simple campaign and time-line based, which content can be switched at a moment’s notice! So far I’m very pleased with the system, just waiting for the TV cards to show up from US so I can complete stage 2 of the project. I have 4 stations all showing different College information and eventually Live TV or a DVD playing over the network. I would be glad to provide some screens and answer any questions A big thank you too all of you that helped and encouraged me to continue my FOG Project, with massive success I may add!

Have a look at a new whitepaper I've written on Digital Signage in Education: ONELAN Digital Signage // Digital Signage in Education Whitepaper. Why do schools and universities need digital signage? Why is Digital Signage so useful? Any feedback appreciated.

Just wondering if anyone has a working installation of Xibo at all? It certainly looks great but it doesn't exactly have a popular forum with the main site :s Xibo Open Source Digital Signage

My primary school want to display pupil work on a screen outside classrooms. Initially i was thinking of using powerpoint with embedded photos and videos running in a loop. Then ithough of using a touch screen eqipped monitor or AllInOne unit to allow the "slides" to be skipped or paused. Then I thought of using the powerpoint output to series of jpeg's feature to store the slides on a SD card and use it in a digital photoframe there are also some semi touch screen photoframes available Then I remembered that many HDTV's have a JPEG slideshow feature running from SD card or usbstick. Does anyone know of a TV which will let you combine video and photos in a looping playlist. Cheap but at least 19" in size up to £300 ish??? There are also SD to HDMI media players available but would prefer it embedded into screen for simplicity.

Hi all I'm trying to set up a few things in Xibo on behalf of the company I work for. 1. I have managed to get the Sky News video feed running via embedded code within Xibo but it's quite small, does anyone have an idea on how to enlarge the video feed? 2. I can display documents/pdf's/images etc from our local intranet onto the Xibo digital signage display and I've figured out how to scroll the document however macro's don't seem to work via hypertext (must be a microsoft security thing). Has anyone any ideas on how to enlarge/zoom the document once it's displayed? FYI, if anyones interested I have managed to figure a way to display figures from Excel within digital signage that update every time the worksheet is saved. Thanks for your help Stephen

Hi, We are currently looking into digital signage and I am intrigued by the XIBO app so we can try and save a big heap of money. My only problem with this is that other expensive signage solutions with built in software can have automatic power on/off scheduled quite easily, but because the xibo has nothing to do with the display itself this obviously can't be done. Has anyone had any experience with displays which either have built in on/off timers? I have come across some, but they are limited in that after the automatic 'on' has happened, the display will automatically go to standby after 2 hours. Another option is to have the client pc to be scheduled to hibernate. With a standard monitor this would result in a standby, but does anyone know of any televisions which have a similar function? I've seen some Sony models with PC Power management, which will put the screen on standby after the PC signal is lost, but when the pc wakes up, does the tv turn on again?! This is obviously very specific and i'm hoping somebody has solved similar problems! Thanks!

Hi, I would like to install an integrated display system around our school. We are thinking along the lines of 6 x 32" LCD screens located in different areas of the school all connected and displaying the same content. I’m not sure how it would all work but it would be nice if it could be managed centrally on one of our servers. Dumb terminals would be ideal rather than each monitor having its own computer. I don’t know how the physical side of things would work but perhaps using network cables direct to a display. Does anybody have any ideas on what hardware or software we could use to make this happen?

I've been asked to investigate a solution to a problem we will soon have. We have 2 buildings, all networked just fine - with fibre between the 2. We will be getting some form of Nettopbox to run our foyer screen and will be putting a second screen in the second building. How can I go about displaying the video from the one NTB on 2 screens? There is roughly 100m between the 2 locations. A standard VGA-ethernet adapter doesn't seem like it would be much use, as I can't run CAT5 between the 2 buildings. So, suggestions?

I have installed some digital signage that is showing a looping PowerPoint in the hallway for the days announcements. The ppt is on a shared network drive that the teachers can open and insert a new slide with their announcement. What I am trying to do is create some sort of theme or master slide that won't allow them to change the theme, font, background, etc.. so each slide has a consistent theme. Does anyone know of a good way of doing this? Or a totally different way? Thanks!
