Please can you help me find the setting for Win10 that prohibits students typing in the name of a server into the file (explorer) window and it showing them all of the shares that they should not be able to see? Currently i am testing and this is one of the last problems i have with the win 10 policies. Thanks guys,

Morning all, I'm aware of the bits of information MS have released like the $1 per device cost to extend the support and with some of our schools really struggling financially to cost up a complete refresh either refurbed or new, i'm wondering if anyone has any further information about how and where we can sign up to get it extended? I've tried our reseller but not really hearing anything back and I'm guessing that it might be a bit early to have the details because MS are probably hoping most refresh their devices rather than go down this route. Anyone know of any information? Thanks

Hello, I've inherited an SCCM server 1803, I've created a new task sequence to deploy Win 10 1903, there an existing TS to deploy 1803, they're both set to deploy to unknown workstations. Here's were it goes strange, I can pxe boot a PC that sees the original TS but not the new one I can PXE another PC and it shows both...... I can pxe a VM server which shows the System center PXE splash screen but shows NO TS's then reboots after 30 seconds. What am I missing?????? Thanks in advance

Hey, At work we are trying to slowly ween the media guys off the macs so wanted to show them that windows does exactly the same thing as the macs, by dual booting them and deploying our win10 image via sccm. I can get the macs to boot to sccm via usb and start the imaging process, but it always fails on the unattend.xml step and i cannot seem to pinpoint the error. Has anyone managed to do this and successfully use and unattend file on a windows deployment on mac hardware Thanks in advance Brad

Symptoms of Error: After Windows Updates has been run, the PC is restarted and either before or after logging in, the screen appears black with just the mouse cursor, which can still be moved around the screen. The hard disk light on the PC may show activity, but this may only run for a short time. The PC stays in this state for some time. If left long enough, the screen my turn grey with an active mouse cursor, but the PC doesn't become usable. I have posted this problem in the Microsoft Community, with my diagnostics and progress of my investigation into the error. Please update either this post or the Community site with anything you find out about this on going problem. Cheers.

How do. Recently got a batch of Lenovo V110 laptops and flashed with W10. With the few using the Realtek 8821ae Wi-Fi card the Wi-Fi all works fine except for connecting to the GPO-defined network.. untilthe card is deleted from Device Manager and added again with Scan For Hardware (no change in drivers). I'm yet to find out if it'll reappear when they're out in the field, but has anyone else experienced this? Anything to stick in our SCCM OSD task to take away this interaction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Following upgrade to Win 10 across college, we are having an intermittent issue with the monitor not duplicating to the Promethean projector, it is often reverting to 'Show only on 1'. All of our tutor stations have permanently installed PCs, so it is not an issue with connecting and disconnecting a laptop. Short of 'trying' to instruct staff to use the WIN + P function to correct the display, is anyone aware of a way to force screen duplication as a fixed setting? Under Win 7 this option was always stable, being a 'set and forget' setting, but it is now starting to drive both us and teaching staff to distraction!!

So we upgraded to Windows 10 a few months back and have had constant problems getting chrome to run as smoothly as it did on our windows 7 machines due to the fact that when users open chrome they are met with the "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" issue, we have updated some machines to 1809 to see if this fixes it, however still we are having this issue , we are using win 10 1803 Education edition and as I have said, some machines have been upgraded to 1809, all the fixes I have seen listed for this are to do with users taking ownership of keys in registry, however this solution is not very easy to implement as I believe it requires users to have elevated permissions in order to perform the registry fix, other browsers (IE and Edge) work stably so we are using them for the time being, but I was just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat with this? p.s We are using the latest version of Chrome (72.0.3626.109) Any ideas or troubleshooting tips would be much appreciated!

Hi All We are only just starting to roll out windows 10 from windows 7 and skipped 8/8.1 altogether I am having a problem with windows 10 (1703) and the start menu, not all the programs installed on the machine are showing up in the All Apps section and I cannot seem to get them to appear for our users yet admins can see all the apps. Background: We are running Windows Server 2008 R2 network (we are working on replacing our 2 2008 R2 domain controllers with 2016 any information that might help with this would be very helpful), we have roaming profiles disabled (for teaching staff and pupils but not admin staff) and need to be able to fully control what is in the All Apps list I have managed to get the start menu tiles to show what we want to show via an XML file but I am having real trouble with the All Apps list The apps we want do appear in %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs but the pupils and staff are not getting them only administrators get them this could be down to a group policy but I don’t know where to look as I am fairly new to editing group policy any ideas? Also is there a way of disabling the store apps for certain users without uninstalling them, there are store apps that I would like staff to be able to use but not pupils. Has anybody got any ideas I have tried searching and there are a few posts that might help I am wading thought these now but I am hoping someone can point me more directly towards an answer, however most some to be fixing it with roaming profiles. Thanks in advance

Hi, As the title states we are getting a lot of user profile errors since switching students from Roaming to local profiles (with folder redirection). We have a GPO in place to delete local profiles every 5 days (we have over 2000 students on one campus) and only 128GB SSD's. I think the problem is in the deleting of the profile and it not removing certain users fully, instead leaving a "?" in place of the username, thus generating the error. My question is how do I avoid this? We can go into Advance System Settings/User Profiles and delete any profile that has "?" instead of a username to fix this, but with pushing 1000 PC's this isn't a long term solution! We run Windows 10 Ent on all machines, all served by Windows 2012 R2 servers, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi, So I have been planning on using local profiles. I have been testing this and it seems to work ok however I have not setup/configured any default user profiles on the machines etc. it has started to come up with an error, blue box saying we can’t sign in to your account it has two options sign out or close. If they select close it continues into windows and everything seems to work ok. Has anyone had this issue? Also we have had a few issues with programs loading etc. Do I need to configure anything for the students local profiles or create a default profile? If anyone has a guide/links that would be helpful. Thanks
