Has anyone got any good ideas what I could do with 3 old-ish (4/5 years) primary school BenQ MX660P projectors. They probably need a bit of a clean and possibly new lamps, but seems a shame to just get rid!

I know this topic has been done before but I wanted to get a range of opinions and experience specific to younger children. Quite simply; which headphones do you use (and recommend) for primary school age children? Do you go down the expensive (not too expensive!) and durable route, or cheap/cheerful and replace them/swap them out quite often? (in either case, how often do you need to replace them?). Thanks in advance.

Hey folks. We're looking at upgrading our wireless solution as we currently have a D-Link system in which has been pretty crappy at times. We have 30AP's at the moment and we're in the middle of looking at different providers for a new system. I just wanted to get some feedback of other local schools as to what has worked and not worked in the last year with Wireless replacements. Link2ICT are offering us a solution which could be managed by them for a small fee. Ruckus looks pretty good so far and certainly at the moment seems like the most appealing choice for me at the moment. And we've also looked at Airtight which is primarily cloud based. We have an AP off them at the moment but have had no luck in getting it connected through Links firewall, even after port changes. Can anybody else recommend any of the above or am I missing a really good solution I haven't checked out yet. (Just seems like everyone of these companies thinks their product is the best, makes it hard to figure out what is BS and what is fact sometimes.)

Hi All, Sorry if this has been touched on before, new to edugeek and trying to get more involved. I'm a new(ish) technician for some primary schools in the local area, and my line manager has decided she wants me to take on more of a network manager role in the future. Although I was quite excited for this, quickly I realised that I'm not 100% sure what it entails. I was wondering if some of you would be able to give me some insight, as to what you do as a network manager. What you do on a daily basis, what would you say your job role is and I guess what could I do in the meantime in order to prepare myself. Thanks.

Hi, Since August 2013 we have been 1 school (1 school number) with 2 sites (4 miles apart) but because the results of one of the sites was adversely affecting the other, the schools are splitting and we've been given a DFE number for the newer site. We are now wondering what to do about SIMs:- 1) Can we run two school from one SIMs? 2) If not, how do we create another instance of SIMs? 3) How do we transfer existing BGA pupils to the new SIMs? At the newer school we have a DELL/VMWare virtual environment with our current SIMs server virtualized and more than enough resources for a second MS SQL server. A 100Mb/s P2P will remain between the 2 schools. Has anyone been through this kind of restructuring? Many thanks

I can well imagine that there are a number of other threads like this on here however here goes- We’re looking to get into the business of providing support to local primary schools (we are a secondary school) to help boost our ailing budget and was wondering how other schools were going about the same process? Technical challenges like remote support and helpdesk software are second nature to us so that’s no problem I’m more looking at the administrative/personal point of view like time management and insurance. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all, I'm a techie for a few schools in South Yorkshire and one of my schools has recently invested in a few iPads. We're having real problems with apps that need to use the internet (including iOS mail), the LEA seems to have everything locked down! Has anyone else had the same issues and have you overcome them? If we can get round these I'd ideally like to start pushing them out to other schools, if not does anyone have a good alternative? Cheers.

Good morning, I am trying to find some suitable( light weight, semi robust) HP laptops for our international primary school. We are part of a large company hence why we have to order HP devices. So far the company IT department has suggested the HP Folio 13" which looks fantastic but due to its cost will restrict the number of units purchased. Any suggestions would be welcomed! or sharing what you currently use and the pros and cons. Thanks Scoggs

Afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has any guides on setting up DirectAccess? I am currently having issues with the Network Location Services being non accessible when I add it into the DirectAccess wizard even though I have created a internal cert and setup a IIS page for it. The internet seems to have fragments of guides all over the place but mostly focus on the two adaptor solution but I am using only one. Regards

I have been asked today to look into the logistics of deploying some "test" ipads for classroom use (primary school age). I suspect we will be looking at around 10-20 initially but if they are useful I think this will ramp up quickly (unfortunately....) I haven't had to set up a mass deployment of Apple devices before so looking at the options. I was hoping people that are already running them might be able to give a few words on things to look out for, useful app's to look at and best practices, etc. From my understand (which is, admittedly limited at the moment) I could use Apple configurator (on a Macbook I have gathering dust here) to create an initial "base" image which could be installed on the iPads and then use Meraki as a free option to lock them down and deploy future app's. Is this correct? The other thing I'm concerned about is how the purchasing and licensing works. I believe I can use one Apple account and volume purchasing to buy apps for all the ipads but I have also seen a few things saying that you need a separate account for each ipad (which didn't seem right, but this is Apple we are talking about). Also I have seen that I would need a APNS to use an MDM solution which is available from Apple. However I have also seen conflicting info about this (some saying its free and others that its $300 a year). In short I want to be able to: Install/remove Apps and set up things such as WiFi from one central location (ideally remotely). Lock down the iPads so that users can not install apps/change settings. Use 1 apple account to purchase and deploy all apps with no user interaction required on the iPad end. Not pay a fortune for Apple licensing fee's/certificates. Am I on the right track with Configurator and Meraki or should I be looking at alternatives? Thank you so much for any advice you can give. Its the first real project I have been given here since starting a couple of months ago so want to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible and that I have an exact plan in place before they starting buying them in and dropping them on me Edit: Really sorry just noticed the sticky about not posting about mobile devices in Mac forum....... Feel really stupid now as I never even saw the mobile section and was wondering why I could not see any posts about iPads here..........
