Hi All Just wanted to ask everyone's opinion on what you think is best for an Primary school environment VMware or Hyper V? Thanks

I create my image in hyper v and I've successfully captured it in the past (last capture was of windows 1909). I usually just apply the updates then capture it. I use sccm to capture and deploy. I have ran the usual powershell scripts to remove windows store apps. Get-AppxPackage -AllUser | Where PublisherId -eq 8wekyb3d8bbwe | Format-List -Property PackageFullName,PackageUserInformation Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage I then mount my capture.iso and start the capture. It runs through the sysprep and the restarts the VM. It then starts up with the black screen and a grey progress bar at the bottom that says loading files... The progress bar loads across the bottom a couple of times and then the VM shuts down. If I start it up again the progress bar loads across a couple of times again and shuts down again. Have I forgotten to do something or is their a new step to capturing the image that I'm missing?

Wondering if someone can advise, as I have never come across/dealt with this before. We have a Server 2012 host, hosting two Server 2016 virtual machines. The VMs have been veeeeeery slow lately, I noticed the physical drive on the host (D drive) only has about 20gb of storage left, it's where the VHD files are stored etc.... eek. I know that deleting anything on the VMs won't free up any space on the host so my thought was to shrink each virtual drive on our VMs. Can anyone else advise? Thanks!

We are looking to appoint an experienced, highly technical individual to lead the support and ongoing development of all network storage, infrastructure and systems for our growing Multi-Academy Trust. The successful candidate will have an expert understanding of supporting and developing Microsoft networks, to include LANs, WANs and server virtualisation and be able to demonstrate the successful implementation of O365 and cloud services. The role provides for a high degree of autonomy, so candidates must demonstrate a logical and organised approach to project management, planning and problem-solving. Full details on this position can be found at: Vacancies - Burnt Mill Academy Trust

I am currently going crazy beating my head against a brick wall with my Server 2012 failover cluster. The whole system fell over (for reasons I cannot find) in the middle of the night last weekend. Cluster service had failed, all resources offline. Managed to get the services back up and the storage back online but the cluster name is in a failed state (Ip address is online) Everything DNS looks OK, cluster name resolved OK and looks to be accessible. I get 3 Event IDs in the cluster events 1254, 1205 and 1069. Under server manager the cluster name is giving me a Kerberos Security Error. In event viewer I am getting EventID4 - Security-Kerberos -The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server virthost1$. The target name used was HTTP/cluster.domain.internal. I am also unable to run live migrations. If I try to live migrate I get an error saying "Virtual machine migration operation for 'VM1' failed at migration source 'VIRTHOST2'". If I take the machine offline and run a quick migration it works OK. (I think my servers are getting mardy with me as Im currently costing up to replace them) Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Garry Drinkall

Hi Alll, Just trying to do a tidy up on our Hyper-V Environment and came across this. I am unsure on how it got into this state but would be nice to fix. Server:Windows Server 2012R2 VM Generation:1 Guest OSWindows Server 2012R2 As you can see from the screenshot bellow, replication of a VM is "Not Enabled" but the Primary and Replica servers have been filled in. When browsing to the VHDX files using Windows Explorer, you can see the HRL files, from a Replication. I can not simply right click on the VM and navigate to Replication and disable, the option simply is not there. I can only set up a new replica. Any help of advise would be appreciated.

Hi All, I currently have two nodes running in a Server 2008 R2 Cluster and the time has come to rollup to Server 2012 R2. There doesn't seem to be a simple solution to this, despite a bit of hunting around. I am proposing to do the following: Live Migrate all VM’s to Node 1. Evict Node 2 From the Cluster Removing Clustering Role from Node 2 Complete in place Upgrade on Node 2 Install New Cluster on Node 2 Migrate Existing Cluster on Node 1 to Node 2 (Inc VM’s) Destroy Old Cluster on Node 1 Remove Clustering Role from Node 1 Complete in place Upgrade on Node 1 Install Clustering Role on Node 1 Add Node 1 to New Cluster on Node 2 Can anyone see any issue with this? It appears you can In-Place upgrade from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 R2 providing the Clustering Service roll is not installed (https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/chrisavis/2013/10/01/performing-an-in-place-upgrade-of-server-2008-r2-to-server-2012-r2/) & (https://support.microsoft.com/en-ae/help/935197/you-cannot-upgrade-the-operating-system-of-a-clustered-server-from-win). It also appears you can migrate the 2008 R2 Cluster to 2012 R2 using the Cluster Migration Wizard (https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/clustering/2012/06/25/how-to-move-highly-available-clustered-vms-to-windows-server-2012-with-the-cluster-migration-wizard/) I want to use the In Place upgrade feature so as to retain the networking configuration as the nodes each have a number of connections and there are 4 different networks configured within Hyper-V Any Ideas or suggestions very welcome. Cheers Andy
