Yeah, I think I'm going to ask him to install neverware on some of our small lenovo laptops - we've purchased some licenses, Get him to buff the RAM and swap out the HDD for some SSDs we have lying around. The fact he's doing it all of his own back I want to keep him interested.

Hi, So we've had a college student (former student at one of the schools in our federation) who has asked to come and volunteer/help out with the IT in school. Whilst he is here he, is looking at all aspects of IT in the school, he is going into lessons with the IT lead, but will also be spending some time with me (the IT tech). I'd really appreciate some ideas of what to show him, other than what I deal with on a day to day basis, callouts etc. I know its vague and generic, but what would you like to have been shown when considering working in ICT. I want to really show how interesting our world can be lol. Thanks

Thanks for all your responses, it's appreciated. I think the best thing to do is to treat them as new members of staff - if there is way to limit access to certain fields that maybe they don't need, that needs to be looked at.

Yeah that makes sense, but won't they have an work email through their agency, do you reckon it would be more beneficial to them to add that email to the mailing lists, rather than setting them up a new email address? I'm not opposed to setting them up at all. I just want it to be more efficient for us and for them.

What about Emails? we currently have a long term supply on site who has asked to be set up on our Emails, I may just be a little bit paranoid but I don't like the idea of it.

Information Re. Pupils is all stored on the MIS, I've said there is no need for them to have access to the that as they have TA's in class that can complete registers surely?

Hi Everyone, I'm curious as to what procedure you have in place for any student teachers you have in your schools. What do they have access to? You see they want: network logins to access the computer, Gsuite logins to access the shared files and access to the photocopier(we have papercut set up). We're trying to find the most efficient solution for students to be integrated without them having access to areas they shouldn't as they're not our employees? is it to treat them as such and make them sign their souls over to us to use our systems? How do you do it? Thanks

The tech before me just showed me how to push out the normal MSI packages through CC4 I am intrigued by the idea of the enterprise version but I'm not certain of where to start with it.

Hello, I'm trying to find a current MSI file for chrome so that I can create a package and push it out over CC4. There's got to be an easier way surely? the last time chrome was pushed out through MSI was version 75.0.3770.100.0 - is there a way of creating a package that auto-updates or is that wishful thinking? Worst case scenario where can I find an MSI file now for Chrome as it seems to push to an application file or to Chrome enterprise, which I am also curious as to how that would work with cc4? Any help would be appreciated greatly as I fear I am going insane lol.

Hi, So we've been having this problem where if a staff member is logged onto their classroom machine and has chrome open, they then cannot open chrome on their laptop or another machine. We have to close the first session so they can continue. Has any one else experienced this? I've brought it up with support but they say its a chrome issue. We are running CC4 over windows server 2012r2. Thanks.

I'm the like 'day to day' technician I deal with issues in the classroom to managing the phone system, also dabling with bits on server (mainly using RMMC as this is what we've been set up to use by our support). I'd be taking on the budgets and ordering as part of the role.

Hi All, Sorry if this has been touched on before, new to edugeek and trying to get more involved. I'm a new(ish) technician for some primary schools in the local area, and my line manager has decided she wants me to take on more of a network manager role in the future. Although I was quite excited for this, quickly I realised that I'm not 100% sure what it entails. I was wondering if some of you would be able to give me some insight, as to what you do as a network manager. What you do on a daily basis, what would you say your job role is and I guess what could I do in the meantime in order to prepare myself. Thanks.
