We wanted to give our users of Bromcom access to Groups so they can only VIEW the group and memberships without the ability to edit the group. It appears this is not possible as giving users ACCESS only to Groups in the permissions seems that users are able to edit the groups. After raising this with Bromcom support they have asked to raise this as an idea which is here: https://ideas.bromcomcloud.com/ideas/BRCM-I-3876 It would be great to have the ability to limit users to have Read Only access to Groups. At the moment giving users ACCESS to groups and the relevant modules within groups, means they can alter and edit groups. The permissions need updating so that ACCESS is ACCESS and there needs to be an EDIT option so staff with edit permissions are the ones who can only edit the groups and modules in the groups. I'd be grateful if those users of bromcom could up this and hopefully Bromcom will see this, see the issue and implement this very basic idea.

We are a long time user of the Fronter VLE and have all the necessary reports set up within CMIS to export data and upload to Fronter via the FEM transfer tool. We are switching to Bromcom and I was wondering if anybody else out there has both packages? How easy is it to create a report that outputs the same data? Is it indeed possible? I have posted a message to Fronter and am about to send one to bromcom. Cheers

Is there a way to export staff records from Bromcom and then import then into SIMS? Or any other good ideas for orphan exporting data when shutting down old MIS servers? By orphaned I am talking about data that was not part of the Migration data set.

The only change that has happened recently has been the Chrome update to 62. Now, lots of teachers are reporting significant speed issues using the interface itself, not necessarily loading pages, but entering a mark in a register can take 20 seconds or more!? Is anybody else in a similar situation?

If I put issues on here, would the Bromcom team review it? For example (I don't use Bromcom much at all). First time for a long time today. While I tried creating a report and downloading it as a CSV file. But it saves it as myfilename.csv.txt. No wonder I was confused when it opened it in notepad rather than Excel. I know it's not a big deal for me, but other users do get more frustrated. Thanks,

I'm trying to put together a report that shows students in school that have siblings here too. But I only want it to show the OLDEST sibling in the report (it is for the school photographer company). Any idea how I could create a filter like that?

how has your experience been? We just moved to Bromcom and I need to get timetables out, instead of smoothly everyone logging into the Student Portal and seeing their timetables it I've been having to manually make each timetable in a report and email it to students as we open on Sunday and I'm running out of time to get it working. Some students are signing up and seeing their timetables fine, others are using Safari so the registration page doesn't display the whole page and they can't scroll down to the submit button to register... others are signing in fine but seeing their timetables on Monday-Thursday and nothing on Sunday (we're in Saudi, so work Sunday-Thursday) others log in and see absolutely nothing on their timetables. It's logged on their support and they're looking into it, but in the meantime I've got kids going nuts and I'm spending my weekend replying to each with a timetable I have to generate Anyone got a third party suggestion that works with Bromcom? We used to use Schoolcomms, which pulled timetables from SIMS and emailed them in about 3 clicks... kindof missing SIMS Aside from this we're happy with Bromcom

Hi I am new to BROMCOM and still navigating myself around the system as I have not received any formal training. I am trying to create a report showing all of our leavers since September 2014 excluding current Year 11. The headings I require are STUDENT, ENROLMENT STATUS, START DATE (at my school), LEAVING DATE, REASON FOR LEAVING, DESTINATION SCHOOL). I am not sure if I am doing something wrong as at the moment the report is just producing a list of our current Year 11s which I do not want. Also unsure if this is something I can do under the students module without having to create a new report? Thanks in advance.

Hi I’ve been encountering problems with importing data into Bromcom from a .csv sheet, which is based on an export from SIMS. I’ve performed this procedure on numerous occasions recently, but for some reason this particular import is failing to map the students correctly, and for the life of me I can’t see why (please see attached screenprint). On this occasion I could do it manually as there’s only a small amount of data involved, but I’d need to know what to do should the situation arise at any time in the future. If anyone could assist/explain, I’d be very grateful. Many thanks in anticipation. Students not mapping on import - why.docx

Those of us using Bromcom could be in for a little change on Monday morning or after half term - cue the phone calls. They are updating the interface on Friday 14th Feb 2020 between 22:00 and 23:00. Here's a twitter link to let everyone know -

Is there a way to parse a CSV file to Bromcom to update all new students with their school email address? Thanks.

We've just migrated to Bromcom (last week) and I've entered our O365 SMTP details in to the interface and it tests OK. Would there be any limitations if we wanted to email ALL our parents using this setup? I don't want Microsoft to suddenly think we're sending out SPAM and put a block on us!

Hi I’m trying to import data into an assessment marksheet, which was erroneously entered into another marksheet. I’ve deleted all irrelevant columns, inserted the admission number into the host template to ensure it appears in the destination marksheet, and changed the headings to ensure they’re compatible with the receiving marksheet. But despite trying to import it in both .csv and .xlsx format, the system still produces a message ‘Incompatible files’. (please see attached screenprint). I’ve also attached a copy of the .xlsx file (I couldn’t attach the .csv file as it’s an ‘invalid file’). Could someone please take a look and tell me what I’m doing wrong? Many thanks in anticipation. Cannot import data into marksheet.docx SE Y10 comments to be imported into Y10 Biology marksheet.xlsx

Hi Is there anyone out there who could point me in the right direction regarding setting up a mail merge report to create address labels please? Many thanks in anticipation.

I'm putting a case together for moving our MAT secondaries from Sims to Bromcom, partly based on the ridiculous number of add-ons we have to buy to get the functionality we require. One package we use is Selima for HR, can Bromcom manage personnel at a Trust level or is at the individual school level but with the ability to report at the Trust level?

We're looking at moving to Bromcom soon, but wanting to discuss with another school before we send the PO in. I'm a fan of finding my own leads rather than asking the salesperson, as you're more likely to get a representative answer rather than a cherry-picked glowing report. At this point we think it's very unlikely we'll find out anything that will put us off Bromcom, from everything we've seen so far of the system and its competitors, so the conversation we want to have is as much about the migration process and lessons learned as it is about whether we should move in this direction. We have been waiting on someone at a local school to get back to us with a date for three weeks, and they finally did, and their answer was "oh, turns out everything is handled centrally, there's no point in you visiting here". Which is rather inconvenient, as I've been putting off arranging anything with anyone else while we waited on this answer, and so now everything is a rush--we'd originally hoped to have the PO in by tomorrow to make an Easter launch. Anyway, long story short, I (Network Manager) and Paul Smith (Assistant Head wot does data analysis, assessments & timetabling) would very much like to have conversations with our oppos in another school. We're in Grantham, Lincs; is there anyone on Bromcom, ideally who's moved in the last year or two, who's within an hour and could spare the time for a cup of tea either tomorrow or Wednesday to have a chat with us? If no-one is that close then a phone call would suffice at this short notice. Thank you all! --Matt

Our school is considering a move to bromcom. The head wanted to know of any schools in the NW of england that might be using it and whether or not they'd be happy us paying a visit to have a look. (once all this covid stuff disappears of course!) Would be happy to know how many of you are using bromcom "up north". cheers

Hi Does anyone know if it is possible to remove multiple documents from students' document lists which were created in error? A little while ago, I was doing repeated mail merge testing, but as I was unaware at the time of the presence of a popup, the documents created as a result of the testing were erroneously saved to each student's record. I've attached a screenprint to demonstrate the issue. Otherwise - I guess I'm just have to go through each individual student's records and delete all unwanted documents manually. Thanks in advance! Hi all, Is anyone using Google Classroom provisioning from Bromcom? I am looking at enabling this over the summer but have a couple of questions: Our users are provisioned using the google AD sync tool. I presume I am alright carrying on doing this and it will just match users up based upon email address? Were classes you already had on Google Classrooms, or have added manually since, removed at the point of sync. I know the tool mentions keeping classes tidy but I am hoping it is clever enough to keep track of ones it has created, rather than JUST keeping ones that are on Bromcom (if that makes sense). We would, for example, like to create year group classes for select subjects and would hope that we can do this manually without them being removed when a sync runs

We have a 300Mbps connection down and not redlining it at peak times, but staff are reporting performance issues when running cover or attendance at peak times. every time we report the issues just get told to clear the cache, I feel a bit fobbed off with this response. Also, this morning bromcom had a faulty server cluster issue with their VM which our MIS is hosted on. We didn't get notified of these issues occurring until we called up. anyone having these issues?

We are creating a road map here for our Bromcom implementation. I've been asked to remove staff access from SIMs once we are using live data in Bromcom. We want to keep the Sims server up and running until the license expires, just IT admin access. I need to speak with our data (SIMS) manager here yet, but he's offsite. How did you guys initially remove SIMs access to users, then remove sims from the client machines? Removing shortcuts from our start menus and blocking it with applocker i guess is one option, along with disabling them in Sims? Never had to uninstall sims as a whole before. Not sure i've seen that option in Solus Any input will be appreciated.

Hi We have been entering comment banks into assessment marksheets in Bromcom for illustrative/training purposes only, but it does not appear to be able for us to remove them subsequently. When attempting to replace the original comment by selecting another one from the comment bank, the marksheet then displays both the original comment selected in error, and its intended replacement comment. Could anyone out there reassure me that it is possible to delete comment banks entered in error, and advise me of the procedure for how to do so? Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

Hello - we are new to Bromcom and I'm just looking at setting up the email part of the system. We use gmail for our email system, but I can't get any of the google smtp settings to work? Can anyone let me know what settings they have used and whether they have had any luck in getting this to work successfully. If it doesn't work have people just setup their own email server and used that? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I am creating a SEND register for schools in our MAT and I would like to include EHCP top-up funding. At present I cannot find the correct table/column to pull this from on the oData feed. On occasion, Bromcom has less-than-intuitive column names. Does anyone know which table this sits in? Cheers.

Hi I have been asked to give a member of teaching staff the capability to modify Medical Information and User Defined fields on Bromcom. This is due to her role as Mobility Officer and dealing with Health Care Plans. At the moment, her only assigned role on Bromcom is as ‘Teacher’. Would anyone be able to advise which role she will need to be assigned, in order to enable her to perform the above tasks? Please could you also confirm the permissions within each module attached to the role which need to be amended (e.g. would it be relevant to amend any of the permissions listed under the ‘Framework’ module within the ‘Safeguarding User’ role?). Query re amending permissions re health.docxMany thanks in anticipation of your assistance.
