We are planning to deploy virtual box to our clients for programming lessons, all programming will take place on virtual box clients running ubuntu without a network connection. I would like to map up students H: drives from the host to the clients automatically on logon. Running sudo mount -t vboxsf works great for that session. In an attempt to perform this automatically I've added vboxvfs and vboxadd into /etc/modules and added vboxsf defaults 0 0 into /etc/fstab This seemed to work after a restart but since a a shut down + boot the drive no longer auto-maps. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to achieve this auto mapping?

Hey all, yet again: We're looking for an email archive / search tool that will integrate with our Exchange 2003 box. We've demoed some units and like the Datacove that we saw, but the initial cost + support averages $9,000 / yr over the life of the unit. I feel that I should be able to do something open source to accomplish the same, for significantly less cost. Details: I would need an application or device that does the following: 1. Email recovery - if an Exchange user deletes an email from their deleted items box, I need to be able to recover it. If users can do their own, bonus. 2. Email search - for attorney cases, we need to be able to search 7+ years of email for a student name or for various teacher names during specified time frames - basically a search feature with "normal" search abilities 3. The ability to get the resulting emails from the search in 2 either printed or emailed in some readable format for use in court, attorney review, etc. Currently our Exchange server is using ~300 GB for email storage going back for the required 7 years, so we're not talking TB of data here. Any ideas? I can't believe this has never been done. As an aside, I'm currently running mail relays that filter emails coming into our district with Ubuntu/Postfix/SpamAssassin (etc) that relay to Exchange - I don't currently do anything with internal to internal email but it would have to be something this email archiver takes into account. Thanks for any suggestions. Damian Bailey

Hi I have installed Ubuntu 9.10. I have installed moodle. I now want users to be able to connect top this from a windows 2008 domain from any pc. Do I need to add Ubuntu to the windows network? (how do I do this) Thanks

Hey all, Thankfully we've gotten a spam assassin box set up and working great. Now I just want to tweak it a bit. I want to add a link to the bottom of emails that would give users the ability to mark a message as spam for training with SA. I have the cgi script part of it working, but am running into issues inserting the links into my incoming email. I've found references to Altermime, but can't find any good documentation on how it works. Examples from the web all show Altermime being used to append disclaimers to outgoing mail; however, I actually need the reverse. I've seen where amavisd-new has Altermime options in it, but can't find any documentation on how that works, either. So....anyone have any experience with this? Thanks so much! I believe I am running the newest packages of Postfix and amavis, but can't find the command line to show me the versions. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

I've just started using Fog and i'm having a problem after I image the machines. After the computer images, Sysprep starts and I rename the PC and join it under our domain. When finished the computer goes through chkdsk and restarts. When it comes back up the computer has been renamed back to when it was registered with Fog and I cannot connect to the domain, AD is showing the new and old name. I have stopped the Fog services and deleted the computer/host in fog. I can rename the PC and get it back on the domain, but fog re-registers it. At this point everything works, but if i have to rename the computer in the future i'll have to redo these steps. My question is: is there a way to either stop fog from changing the computers name and dis-joining it form the domain or stop fog all together after the ghosting is complete? My setup: Ubuntu 8.10 Fog 0.28 All machines are HP using XP Thanks

Can anyone shed light on this? I've seen there are people in Norfolk and Suffolk here, so you might be able to help. I'm trying Ubuntu on school laptops and netbooks. I know Ubuntu really well, but can't get the package manager to connect, just getting "No route to host" error. I can't think of anything I've missed. We're behind a proxy, of course. Is that it? Can we not connect to the package servers behind the proxy? Am I missing something really obvious? Or maybe there is some cunning way around this. Thanks for any thoughts.

I have made a start on our new Squid box to replace our aging ISA box, and have hit a small roadbump. I've set it up very basically so far - namely defining the access rules (ie. saying people on our IP range can use it), setting the cache_peer rule for the parent proxy (swgfl) and set the visible_name value (morbo.schooldomain.etc...). Now, when I go to the hostname direct (namely morbo:8080, as that is the port I am using) it gives me the error message I expect - invalid request. But if I set the box as the proxy in Chrome (or anything else), it times out on everything. It worked once, for the first request I made to google.co.uk but that was it. Everything else just dies. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Anything you would like to see, logs etc... can be provided.

Have been trying out QIMO a kid-friendly Ubuntu variant in some of my schools. Managed to get Flash content working, but videos on the BBC site just won't play (YouTube is fine). Tried to install Chrome instead, but got a proxy error (though the Firefox proxy settings were correct). Tried the Flash-Aid add-in for FF, which didn't seem to help either. Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

Hi, I'm sure this is a simple question: I am trying to complete my first Moodle Upgrade (i know, i'm a late starter) and im only going from 2.7.? to 2.7.?+ but when i backup the /var/ww/html/moodle folder and the extract the new .taz.gz to be the new /var/www/html/moodle folder and then copy my config.php back in - i get just a white webpage and no site at all. If i dont copy my old config.php back in the site works, starts asking setup questions, but i am worried that this will be a new install and not use my existing db/content/settings. Please can someone point me in the right direction here? I am using moodle 2.7/ubuntu14/command line only. If anyone has an upgrade guide they swear by, please share, i would be interested to take a look.

Hi All, My first post here, this place is a great resource of knowledge! I have set up MRBS v1.4.8 on a Ubuntu Server 11.10. I am using LDAP authentication which works great. In my MRBS set up I have two OUs in ldap_base_dn, one for Associate Staff and one for Teaching And Support Staff, so everyone from these two OUs are able to login to MRBS. What I would like to do is to filter users from these OUs and put them in appropriate groups, which I have also set up in AD and called them mrbs_users and mrbs_admins. This would enable me to have greater control over who can access MRBS and also being able to control access from AD rather than editing config files to change admins, etc. Is it possible to set up MRBS to work this way? Here is the part of the config file responsible for authentication: /**********LDAP Authentication**********/ $auth["session"] = "php"; $auth["type"] = "ldap"; $ldap_host = "192.168.x.x"; $ldap_port = 389; $ldap_v3 = true; $ldap_tls = false; $ldap_base_dn[] = "ou=Associate Staff, dc=company, dc=com"; $ldap_base_dn[] = "ou=Teaching And Support Staff, dc=company, dc=com"; $ldap_user_attrib = "sAMAccountName"; $ldap_dn_search_dn = "cn=user,cn=Users,dc=company, dc=com"; $ldap_dn_search_attrib = "sAMAccountName"; $ldap_dn_search_password = "password"; $ldap_filter[] = "memberof=cn=mrbs_admins,ou=MRBS, dc=company, dc=com"; $ldap_filter[] = "memberof=cn=mrbs_users,ou=MRBS, dc=company, dc=com"; $ldap_admin_group_dn = 'cn=mrbs_admins,ou=MRBS,dc=company, dc=com'; $ldap_group_member_attrib = 'memberof'; #$ldap_debug = FALSE; It seems like the first ldap_filter applies to first ldap_base_dn and same for the second element, so in this case only members of Associate Staff are able to login as admins and vice versa for Teachings and Support Staff. However, some users from the Teaching Staff OU also need to be able to log in as admins and this won't work in the current setup. Is there any way to make this work? and be able to control user access from AD? Thanks!

hello everyone I have installed italc on our win 7 teachers computers and the win xp class room computers and it is working great everything runs fine and it stores the ip address loading the class room computers every time i open italc. When I installed it in our ubuntu class room the teacher and students work great It does everything it should. but after adding all the computers for the class room they disappear when closing and reopening italc on the teacher computer. Any Ideas why I lose them in Ubuntu? It will not auto detect any classroom computers I have to put the IP address in every time I try to use it. I know I must be missing something simple in my set up just not sure what. Thanks

Setting up an Ubuntu server with Apache2. Basically following the Moodle set up instructions on MoodleDocs Network has a Windows box on it and two Ubuntu Servers. Apache2 is running and I can "ping" the server at 192.168.2.102 from both the Windows box and the Ubuntu box. I have edited /etc/apache2/apache2.conf and added the line "ServerName baldrick" The Server can "see" itself as "baldrick" Neither the windows box nor the ubuntu box on the same network can see baldrick but CAN see 192.168.2.102 Any ideas what I've missed? Thanks

Has anyone seen this? It's pretty cool )

Hi all, I have just set up a fog server for the first time. I selected the hard drive in hyper-v to be expanding. Everything seems to be up and running I can remote in and create images etc on the server. When I go to capture my base image which is about 25Gb it gets to around 8GB mark which was the default size I believe of the virtual hard drive to start with and it says image complete. If I log into the fog server I get warnings about low space. Surely this shouldn't be happening. I have tons of space on the main physical server for the virtual hard drive to expand so I don't understand it. Can I manually expand the disk to make it work or will it mean also expanding the partition on the Ubuntu server? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I have successfully uploaded an image; however, when I try to deploy it to a machine, it gives me the error that states "Unable to Locate Image Store." Any suggestions would be awesome!

I have setup a VM running Linux 12.04 Server with Squid 3 installed, however I am having some issues making it work transparently. I have added Transparent to the http_port line in squid.conf and I have added the following routing rule; sudo iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth1 -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.10:3128 I have setup ACLs correctly to allow for my network (192.168.1.0/24 and for the localhost) and seem to be working, on my client machine I have setup the following IP settings; IP Address: 192.168.1.44 Sub mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.10 DNS: 192.168.1.10 If I point IE's proxy settings to 192.168.1.10 on port 80 all works fine, I can browse to sites no problem, however once I take the proxy settings out I am unable to browse to sites using the Hostname, but If I browse to an IP (74.125.224.72 for google) it works fine. The Squid VM has eth1 (LAN Side) configured on the 192 and eth0 is on 10.xxx.xxx.xx (WAN Side), an upstream proxy to LSN is also setup in the squid.conf. Both my DNS Servers on the WAN side of the squid are setup in the resolv.conf file, I have also tried adding them into the squid.conf using dns_nameservers option. No matter what I try I can't seem to be able to browse to sites using the FQDN, but can using an IP when in Transparent mode. Any ideas would be much appreciated! Rob
