  1. Well, i've put the backup back live and the machine is still broken, so i've restored to snapshot and will just start again.
  2. Yep, this is exactly what i have done, so thats good at least. I have been following the moodle guides for normal upgrades and admin from command line, but neither are helping me out of my hole Stupid question 2: what perms should be set on the moodle folder? Stupid question 3: I'm not sure what this Apache log is telling me - does it look normal to you? ::1 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:25:01 +0100] "GET /moodle/admin/cron.php HTTP/1.1" 200 7614 "-" "Wget/1.15 (linux-gnu)" ::1 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:30:02 +0100] "GET /moodle/admin/cron.php HTTP/1.1" 200 7350 "-" "Wget/1.15 (linux-gnu)" ::1 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:35:01 +0100] "GET /moodle/admin/cron.php HTTP/1.1" 404 509 "-" "Wget/1.15 (linux-gnu)" 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:39:47 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 5748 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; $ 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:39:47 +0100] "GET /moodle HTTP/1.1" 301 590 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WO$ 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:39:47 +0100] "GET /moodle/ HTTP/1.1" 500 205 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; W$ 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:39:47 +0100] "GET /browserconfig.xml HTTP/1.1" 404 5759 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Window$ ::1 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:40:01 +0100] "GET /moodle/admin/cron.php HTTP/1.1" 500 205 "-" "Wget/1.15 (linux-gnu)" 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:42:22 +0100] "GET /moodle/ HTTP/1.1" 500 205 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; W$ 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:42:23 +0100] "GET /moodle/ HTTP/1.1" 500 205 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; W$ 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:42:26 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 424 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; T$ 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:42:26 +0100] "GET /moodle HTTP/1.1" 301 589 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WO$ 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:42:26 +0100] "GET /moodle/ HTTP/1.1" 500 205 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; W$ 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:42:35 +0100] "GET /moodle/ HTTP/1.1" 500 205 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; W$ 192.168.0.119 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:42:35 +0100] "GET /favicon.ico HTTP/1.1" 404 507 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.$ ::1 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:45:01 +0100] "GET /moodle/admin/cron.php HTTP/1.1" 500 205 "-" "Wget/1.15 (linux-gnu)" ::1 - - [30/Sep/2014:13:50:01 +0100] "GET /moodle/admin/cron.php HTTP/1.1" 500 205 "-" "Wget/1.15 (linux-gnu)"
  3. Thanks, i have tried this exactly as you specify, but no change. Sorry!
  4. Hi, I'm sure this is a simple question: I am trying to complete my first Moodle Upgrade (i know, i'm a late starter) and im only going from 2.7.? to 2.7.?+ but when i backup the /var/ww/html/moodle folder and the extract the new .taz.gz to be the new /var/www/html/moodle folder and then copy my config.php back in - i get just a white webpage and no site at all. If i dont copy my old config.php back in the site works, starts asking setup questions, but i am worried that this will be a new install and not use my existing db/content/settings. Please can someone point me in the right direction here? I am using moodle 2.7/ubuntu14/command line only. If anyone has an upgrade guide they swear by, please share, i would be interested to take a look.
  5. I'm in a very similar scenario. I have heard similar things from independent people talking down Sonicwall filtering. I was looking at lightspeed, but the price appeared much more. Did OP reach a conclusion? Is is so hard to find a single device to firewall and content filter? (i've been told the Lightspeed is NOT a firewall, simply a content filter).
  6. We have a Sonicwall TZ210 which refers web requests to a Websense server to check if the request is permitted, etc. I am trying to replace the old websense server (crashy, no disk space 2003 P2V conversion) with a new 2008 vm. However the sonicwall refuses to 'see' the websense server - simply states "server is not responding" I am fairly new to both Sonicwall and Websense, and whilst there seems to be lots of documentation on both, there seems to be very little on using them together. The instructions seem to be - put in the websense ip address into sonicwall and turn on for zone. But not much help when it goes wrong. Is there anyone who uses these products together who could give me a place to start. My install is new (7.7 web security) and pretty much defaults all the way. Any suggestions appreciated!
  7. Yep - this is what i was hoping for! Diskpart command line works a treat, extending a volume into unallocated space automatically extends the extended partition. Cheers!
  8. Thats a shame. I've heard bad things about dynamic disks - especially if they go wrong and you need to recover data. Are there things i should know before i convert? and i assume i can convert without data-loss?
  9. Its a Basic disk.
  10. I'm sure i'm being a bit dense... but: I have added another disk to my raid array, extended the array size, rescanned the disks in Server 208 R2 disk management. All good. I now have unallocated space behind my extended partition containing logical drives. What i want to do is simply expand the extended partition to take advantage of the unallocated space, but the unallocated space has no option to extend. And i can't find the extended partition as an object to click on to expand. I can extend a volume in the existing 'free space' of the extended partition, but cannot extend the partition itself... What am i missing??
  11. Done
  12. I never did, apart from the lack of time available to do this, i wouldn't be able to test all the different areas of SIMS sufficiently to make it worth doing.
  13. I have just started using this also. I think that it collects that info by default. I'm not at my desk but i think you click on inventory and at the bottom of the drop down the is a reports option. Then i think machine configuration report is what you want. You can customize the reports columns to what you want then run. You could run to excel then copy to notepad or whatever. Hope this helps
  14. Got a bit of a wierd problem when using Excel 2003. The user has 3 or 4 different sheets open, as well as other applications, word, IE, 3rd party DB application. At random times, suddenly the user will switch to excel to work and all the cells and text/numbers within the cells is massive (like font 80 or something) and the sheet is completely unreadable. the windows are still operating and you can switch between apps and between excel sheets, but you can't get the graphics back to normal. The user has to close the sheets and then excel crashes (send error report?) and then you can reopen the sheets and carry on. I have never seen anything like this - it doesn't seem like graphics card error, as all the other windows and apps behave normally. Don't know if it is excel corruption or what else to consider - have already reinstalled office!
  15. For what its worth, we are a vmware house but looking to migrate to hyper-v at easter. We will make a £800 saving a year for the vmware support renewal, but thats not the reason we are switching. We got vmware in nearly 3 years ago when hyper-v was not the product it is now, but since it went in we have struggled on occasions with a lack of training on the platform and being a linux based system, we haven't felt confident dealing with it when issues occurred (and they have occurred). We feel now that SP1 is out, delivered dynamic memory, we will will not lose any functionality by switching to hyper-v (except FT which we dont use) and we hope to benefit from a platform which is easier to support, troubleshoot when errors occur and offers integration with system center and full integration with DPM (we do use DPM for backing up our servers, but it sits on top, no vm awareness). Nothing wrong with vmware - its a good product, used everywhere with great success... but for us and our situation, i believe hyper-v will suit us better.
