Hi, I am looking for a small Hardware firewall to be used at home. I will be looking at buying 2. It needs to be about the same size of an ADSL router & fanless. I would like it to have all the basuc firewall stuff and i would like basic content filtering as well, but will look into ones without. I used to have smoothwall express running on an computer. I dont want a computer running 24 x 7 though. I have looked at the sonicwall TZ Series, i have used these before. Do Smoothwall make such an item? What else is out there? Thanks

We have a Sonicwall TZ210 which refers web requests to a Websense server to check if the request is permitted, etc. I am trying to replace the old websense server (crashy, no disk space 2003 P2V conversion) with a new 2008 vm. However the sonicwall refuses to 'see' the websense server - simply states "server is not responding" I am fairly new to both Sonicwall and Websense, and whilst there seems to be lots of documentation on both, there seems to be very little on using them together. The instructions seem to be - put in the websense ip address into sonicwall and turn on for zone. But not much help when it goes wrong. Is there anyone who uses these products together who could give me a place to start. My install is new (7.7 web security) and pretty much defaults all the way. Any suggestions appreciated!

I have a growing population of XBox users who want to use XBox Live. They are all on my network sharing a single internet-facing IP address in a standard many-to-one NAT setup. The XBox tests their connectivity and gives it a rating of "Strict NAT". It recommends port numbers that I should "open". I have checked and those ports are not blocked by the firewall. The next step would be port forwarding, but obviously I could only do that for one lucky user. It also recommends enabling UPnP, but Sonicwall does not support UPnP. I doubt UPnP would work in a shared environment even if they did. Research indicates that my Sonicwall NSA4500 simply will not support it no matter what I do. At best I could buy enough internet-facing IP addresses to give each of them one-to-one NAT and even then they'd only get up to a rating of "Moderate NAT". Does anyone here have a similar configuration, either with a Sonicwall firewall or a different brand?

Hi, We have recently turned on DPI-SSL on our SonicWall NSA4600, doing this has stopped Google Drive from syncing. I know that we can exclude Google apps etc from DPI-SSL but we would like to monitor that traffic. Does anyone know of a fix for Google Drive not syncing when DPI-SSL is enabled? I had tried googledrivesync.exe --unsafe_network but that doesn't seem to fix it. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Nick

Hi, We are currently trying to replace our existing firewall with a nice new shiny Dell SonicWall NSA box at my Upper School. We are struggling to get to grips with the best approach to adopt at the moment. I am wondering if there is anyone who uses a SonicWall and would be willing for us to visit for a chat/look at the setup? We are based in Bedfordshire, but can travel to Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire/Buckinghamshire. Many thanks, Ash.

We have lightspeed setup as our inline filter for while at school, but students are now getting 1:1 tablets. I was able to force a proxy to the Chrome browser they are using (they are using Google Apps for Ed tablets), but the lightspeed is behind our firewall. I cannot figure out how to allow students to get to the lightspeed from outside. Here is a layout: LAN --- Lightspeed (bottle rocket) --- Firewall --- ISP So while internal, students are filtered using anything. But from outside, my test tablet cannot connect to the proxy. I have a Sonicwall, and it is frustrating using their 'rules' setup, I cannot figure out how to forward 8080 requests to go to the lightspeed. Any help appreciated.

Hi all, We are looking at moving from a system fully managed by our lea to don't it ourselves. I'd prefer a separate Web filter and firewall, but will consider a joint box. We are a school of approx 1500 dissidents (ha, autocorrect of students) looking at deploying BYOD. Can people tell me what you use and your experience please. I've read the lightspeed vs smoothwall thread. Does anyone user bloxx? I can get a good deal on smoothwall which should make it around the same price as lightspeed. Thanks for your help. (i'm looking for responses from schools not sellers right now , thanks)

I have a situation whereby a user has 2 laptops that connect to our network, and uses (professional / paid for version of) RealVNC to remotely connect to (up to 3 different) desktops. Both laptops can connect OK and browse the internet etc. Both laptops can also connect to the initial RealVNC session, whereby they are presented with thumbnails of the (three) remote desktops. Whichever laptop then connects first, to any of the 3 remote desktops (within RealVNC) the connection and remote (control) session is successful. However, whilst the first laptop has an active remote (control) session connection, when the other laptop attempts to connect to any of the (3) remote desktops, RealVNC connection fails (with a peer-to-peer network error). Even when one laptop is connected on our network, and the other (or both are connected) via a different internet connection (e.g. tethered mobile connection) – they both connect and function correctly. I have also switched the order in which each laptop connects (to eliminate any potential laptop specific issues) but makes no difference. Therefore, I know it is something related to our Internet connection, or more precisely our Firewall (e.g SonicWALL). I also ran some Packet Monitoring during the connection attempts, and (going by dropped connections) the following was noted: DROPPED, Drop Code: 160(Multicast forwarding not configured), Module Id: 25(network) Can anyone help, or advise of suggestions? Many Thanks,

Hi, Does anyone use Sonicwall for web filtering and reporting? We have the NSA 4600, the internal memory isn't good enough to store more than a few hours worth of data. Dell suggested buying the Analyzer add on for reporting, has anyone used this before? Can you do per user reporting? If so how????? Many thanks Nick
