Hi, I have created an XP image with a single partition on a virtual machine. I then capture that image and deploy it to Dell systems using MDT. I have configured the "Format and Partition Disk" section in my task sequence as follows: Disk number: 0 Disk type: Standard (MBR) System (Primary) 50% of remaining space on disk. NTFS file system. Data (Extended) 100% of remaining space on disk. The Dell systems have 250GB hard drives. The task sequence is creating the primary partition with 100% disk space instead of 50%. Then when I open Disk Management on the deployed machine it shows an additional 100GB (approx) partition with no drive letter assigned and tells me that the drive is 350GB. If I delete this partition it then realises that the drive is only 250GB... Thanks in advance, Dan

Hi this is my first post on the forum, and my first week in this job! Sorry if it's a noob question - or in the wrong place, but I have searched elsewhere and here (without success) for a similar post. We have a number of laptops running XP Pro SP2 which were provided pre-partitioned with the primary partition in NTFS and the second partition as FAT32, C: and D: respectively. The partition sizes are 12.9GB each. Most users are not aware of the existence of the second partition and as a result the primary partition fills rapidly and the second partition remains unused. I would like to delete the second partition and expand the NTFS primary partition to fill the unallocated void. This can be done fairly easily using Partition Magic but the school don't have this and are unlikely to pay for it. Is there any practical way of doing this without using Partition Magic? Thanks.

Hi all, my admin just bought ~20 new laptops for teachers and they arrived today. The company has already installed win7 on them and they apparently had 0 foresight as they left the drives as a single partition (other than the one win7 makes itself). I want to repartition the 230g hd's to C: 65gigs D: 110 gigs E: 65gigs C = windows D = data E = recovery image (thinking DriveXML to make it because it's free but open to suggestions...CloneZilla maybe). Does this make sense to you? I am not sure about the necessary size for E so I matched C but is this the right thing to do? I will then install Centurion on the comps to freeze C and E which will help in recovery. Never having done this before I am interested in the general opinion of my setup and suggestions as to what works. Any and all input appreciated.

Hi - i am just working on creating a recovery partition for a laptop which i want to automatically image upon a key press from the end user - i'm using clonezilla and i have created the following partitions, system reserved (100mb) local disc (200gb) windows 7 recovery (10gb) clonezilla installed image (22gb) image from clonezilla is on here i have used easybcd to create another boot option called "recovery" which boots into the recovery partition to start the clonezilla program. basically i have copied clonezilla onto the recovery partition which runs - but i'm struggling to get the image to automatically set off:confused: any help will be great!

I'm sure i'm being a bit dense... but: I have added another disk to my raid array, extended the array size, rescanned the disks in Server 208 R2 disk management. All good. I now have unallocated space behind my extended partition containing logical drives. What i want to do is simply expand the extended partition to take advantage of the unallocated space, but the unallocated space has no option to extend. And i can't find the extended partition as an object to click on to expand. I can extend a volume in the existing 'free space' of the extended partition, but cannot extend the partition itself... What am i missing??

Probably been answered somewhere before, but this is one for the WDS experts out there. We've got WDS deploying images fine and I'm familiar with WDS, WAIK, WSIM etc. and unattend files. We are currently using WDSClientUnattend.xml which is specified in the server properties to specify an administrator user to perform imaging, and to wipe and partition drives with a single partition before imaging. This is working fine, but now I want to specify different partitioning options for different machines. What I want to achieve is to have my staff laptops image onto a single partition that fills the entire harddrive, but for our classroom laptops I'd like to create a partition for the O/S and applications, and a second partition/logical drive to act as a 'scratch' drive. I understand that I can't achieve this through WDSClientUnattend.xml at the server level, and would have to remove this, but can I do it at the image level instead?
