Morning everyone, I've got a major issue with KMS here. Until last week, we had all Windows 7 clients (with Office2010) activated via KMS on a server 2008R2 DC. Well this summer we have rebuilt both our DC's and upgraded them to server 2012 R2. I am trying to set KMS up and it's not working My aim is to have a KMS server which will activate Windows 7 and 10 (as we plan to roll that out over the year) as well as Office 2010 and 2016 - which we also plan to roll out. Is there a KMS key which will activate Windows 7 and 10, and another to activate office 2010 and 2016? I know this is a big ask however we can't be the first school to do this... Thanks in advance. Regards Harry

Hi, I need to clone a Windows 7 computer to other same model\hardware computers. With XP computers we can set up an image, clone with imagex to a wim file. Then deploy to other computers and use newsid to rename, then join the domain. = Simple and quick. I have yet to succeed in finding a similar quick method for Windows7. All the documentation I can find is for creating an image that will work on any hardware. - I know it's strange, but I don't want this, all our images are hardware\model specific because we buy machines in batches for specific departments. So each one has different department specific software and drivers installed. I know sysprep is the answer, but I can't seem to find the right combination of options that does what I want. Can anyone help me save some time with a sysprep script file that keeps the drivers and shuts-down so I can clone it to a wim? I then don't want it to take ages optimising settings and rebuilding the driver database, create a new user etc on first image boot. At most I want it to ask me what name it should have, maybe domain join and nothing more. Is this possible?

Struggling a little with this one. I need to give access for students to control the Microphone volume in Windows 7 but not to be able to access the control panel. Currently we block access to the control panel using the "Prohibit access to the Control panel" GPO however under Windows 7 this also blocks access to the Recording options from the Sound icon on the toolbar. When we disable this GPO we are able to access the Recording options however you are able to see everything in the control panel. Because of this I added the GPO "Show only specified Control panel items" then added Microsoft.Sound. This made it so that you couldn't see anything other than sound from the control panel however if you know what the CPL file is for the control panel item you can lunch it without any restrictions. The other option to all of this is to set the Microphone recording volume to full using NIRCMD however this requires you to have something plugged in to the Microphone socket on the pc. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We've been trying to capture video footage over firewire from a variety of camcorders and so far everytime I've tried to do it on Windows7 the capture either fails or crashes out. I've tried using Corel VideoStudio and Movie Maker but neither seem to work with any camcorder we have under Windows7. The cameras themselves seem to be getting picked up by Windows7 as it detects them and appears to install the driver OK but Windows seems to be unable to interface with them properly to capture the footage. We've used the same camcorders with the same hardware/software on WindowsXP and it works fine? Is there some kind of option you need to check or driver you need to install in Window7 to make firewire cards work when capturing Digital Video? One thought I had was that fiewire does add itself as a NIC interface so I wondered ifthat might be causing issues? I've not tested disabling it yet to see if this resolves the situation. Has anyone else encountered similar problems when trying to capture DV over firewire in Windows7?

Hi all, my admin just bought ~20 new laptops for teachers and they arrived today. The company has already installed win7 on them and they apparently had 0 foresight as they left the drives as a single partition (other than the one win7 makes itself). I want to repartition the 230g hd's to C: 65gigs D: 110 gigs E: 65gigs C = windows D = data E = recovery image (thinking DriveXML to make it because it's free but open to suggestions...CloneZilla maybe). Does this make sense to you? I am not sure about the necessary size for E so I matched C but is this the right thing to do? I will then install Centurion on the comps to freeze C and E which will help in recovery. Never having done this before I am interested in the general opinion of my setup and suggestions as to what works. Any and all input appreciated.

Hi, To stop anyone else having the same 'fun' as me, I thought I would share my Windows 7 problem that has resulted in many hours spent testing different DHCP servers, routers, NICS and reviewing packet logs! This problem seems to occur if you have all of the following: Using a DHCP reply to forward DHCP requests (e.g. using VLANs and an IP helper on the router to forward DHCP requests) Windows 7 clients Windows Firewall Public Profile turned on (default configuration - all profiles) DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag = 0 (Default for Windows 7) Symptoms NETLOGON event ID 5719 in system event log This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain due to the following: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. Group policies inconsistently applying on start-up Event ID 50024 logged in the Microsoft-Windows-DHCP Client Events/Operational event log (you need to enable this event log as its disabled by default) Ack Receive Timeout has happened in the Interface Id xx Background By default Windows 7 request for its DHCP reply's to be a uncast responses. If you are using a Windows DHCP server and your client is on the same broadcast domain (not accessing the DHCP server via a DHCP reply) the DHCP server receives the request but ignores the clients request for a uncast response, and reply's in a broadcast. In this situation everything works. The problem occurs when your client has to access the DHCP server via a DHCP relay, such as a router or switch and the DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag registry key is still set to the default(0). In this situation, the client sends out a broadcasts requesting an IP address, the DHCP relay forwards the request to the DHCP server, the DHCP server sends the reply(ACK reply) to the relay and the DHCP relay sends a uncast reply to the client. If the Public profile is turned on in the Windows Firewall (on by default) then the ACK reply is dropped by the firewall and is never passed to the DHCPclient.dll Conclusion I passed my findings and research to Microsoft support and after more packet logs and deep Microsoft DHCP\Firewall traces, they have concluded it's a bug! they have now created an internal KB for this problem. This has now been passed to the developers and I am awaiting an acceptable workaround and Microsoft to release a patch. I will post the workaround and a link to the patch when I get more information from Microsoft. Hope this helps, Edd

Hi All, We are looking to start using Arduino Uno's in the computer club and I am having trouble getting the IDE running for Students and teachers. It appears that it may need permissions to write to the C: drive, regardless of how we are running it and from where. Works fine for Admins. Has anyone done this and did they have the same issues ? I am running on Windows7 with Arduino Uno's and just downloaded v1.6.6. Thanks for any help.

Hello, We are using a MS Win2008R2 back office, and Windows 7 for our clients. We use Ranger for basic controls such as monitoring PC's, and auto turning them off. We do not use any of the RANGER user or environment controls. We deploy are controls and settings via GPO. We have a GPO that redirects the My Doc's and this all works. With the policy the start menu is config'ed to show User pciture, Documents linked to GPO redirected Folder, Pictures and Music ( all working). And then Computer, Control Panel, Devices and Printers The moment we install and run Ranger with a pupil account with the policy on a machine, Ranger kills the start menu leaving the user picture, Computer, Control Panel, Devices and Printers. if you uninstall Ranger from the client (RangerRemove), reboot and then log back as the pupil with the GPO controls, the computer stills displays the startmenu and desktop as if Ranger is installed. ie broken. Has anyone found this, or know how to resolve.
