Search the Community

I'm hoping to start a project exploring the use of web 2.0 tools with Y5 pupils. One aspect of this is likely to be social networking. Please can anyone recommend a tool for setting up a secure community that's OK for 10 year olds? cheers

Hi for the last few days, we have not been able to connect to the dropbox.com website. I have tried Chrome, IE and Firefox and none of them will connect. They all give slightly different errors: IE says: Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://www.dropbox.com again. If this error persists, contact your site administrator. I have tried this and it makes no difference. Chrome says: This webpage is not available ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED and Firefox says: Secure Connection Failed The connection to http://www.dropbox.com was interrupted while the page was loading. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. Has anyone else had similar problems over the last few days. I get the same errors on other https sites. Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Paul

Hi all you citrix bods, I have a question. I am wanting to turn on our Web Interface for certain key members of staff to use to remote in. Only thing is I want this to be secure. ie. HTTPS site and then secure connection to the server. What do I need to do to do this? The admin guide isn't exactly the most helpful thing in the world. I am running Windows 2003 R2 servers, Citrix XenApp 5, and will be using ISA to do the 'publishing' as it calls it. Also, what ports need to be open? Cheers Tony

Hi everyone. As we are intending to make more use of our BYOD facilities, I am looking at providing secure storage and charging facilities for our students. While I accept that with BYOD, the responsibility for ensuring a device is properly charged rests with the user, we all know as technologists that batteries have a nasty habit of not lasting as long as we'd hope they might. And we also know as support staff that students do not always think the day through until the last possible minute. Does anyone else here have charging bays / stations / areas for student use in their school, and would like to share the rough percentage of charging bays to students? At the moment I am thinking about 15% coverage - but this is a purely arbitrary figure and given the cost of them, some crowd-sourced info from other schools already doing this would be helpful! Thanks in advance!

Hi. This may be a really dumb question, but the question has been raised by a member of pastoral staff here and I didn't know the answer. I don't know anything much about secure email systems. This person has been sending emails (as requested) to a secure email address, in the form: @cornwall.gcsx.gov.uk After she sent several emails, including one specifically requesting a response, she didn't receive anything, so she decided to call them to ask instead. She was told that the emails wouldn't have come through as they weren't from a secure email system (which makes we wonder what did happen to them). The organisation publish their secure email address on their emails and on their website as a standard mailto link. I'm fairly happy that I know how an email is sent across the Internet and my understanding is that unless you encrypt the email in some way its not secure at all. Having done a bit of research, it seems you need to be signed up to a secure email service, like gcsx, but it looks to me like they're designed for the police or NHS for example. Anyone know any more than me! Meldrew
