Hi All, I have having some issues loading web pages, either receiving time out or security errors such as the this from random sites such as Collins connect. I did initially have the same sort of fault with the YPO website but seem to be able to mitigate the error i was receiving by adding the reg key as detailed here (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2553967) The issues are mainly present on the internal networks and using IE, less so on my guest network (DHCP from router direct to filter) and using chrome, however still present to some extent. Hello! Though I have been in IT for 3 years I have recently had to broaden my horizons based off company requests blah blah. The issue is we have a VDI environment set up for a small office. Users are supposed to have a Home H: drive for personal files and the like. They are mapped through the AD, typically no problems. Two networked drives from the same server that the home drives are on, Z and Q drives are mapped fine, they used to disconnect occasionally but I fixed that with a GPO. I did set up a GPO to map the home drives but I am having two specific users who can literally watch the H drive disappear and reappear, or at least they make it seem that way. I have been trying to lock down this issue for a while now and am open to all suggestions. Users VDI is Windows 7 based, host server is 2012 R2.

This week I have performed 2 in place upgrades on our domain controllers. DC2 went perfect and everything is working fine however DC1 is not finding any updates to install. I know I should not do in place upgrades but it was our only option at this time. Anyone had this issue before. I have tried several things to get it working but nothing seems to work. Hi Guys, I've done some 1709 Windows 10 images that I would like to stop upgrading to the latest feature update released by MS. I've looked online and found that admins have done this via the "Defer Windows Updates" found under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update. I've updated the GPO central store to the latest Windows 10 1709 .admx and .adml files but I am unable to see this option! The server GP is running from is Windows Server 2012 R2. Please find the attached picture of what I am seeing in gpmc.msc. Anyone out there know why this is or knows how I can fix this?

Hi, just wondering if this is now possible, the new ADFS 3.0 in Server 2012 R2 can now go on a DC, can I also put the latest DirSync on the same VM or is that likely to cause issues still? Good Morning, Here's an interesting one. In GPP, when I set an Internet Settings preference for any version of I.E., all the settings disappear after a few minutes. You re-open the preference and everything is removed. When viewing the XML in \\domain\sysvol\domain\policies\{guid}\Users\Preferences\InternetSetings - over time the entries slowly disappear, leaving only the targeting groups (with no settings) in the XML. I have tried with several GPOs, both old and new - it keeps happening. No other GPPs have any issues at all - just the internet ones. Every time I search Google, the only results are about people who can't find the old IE Maintenance policy, not this specific issue. Cheers for your help. Paul.

Hello. I have been having issues adding shared printers to computers in our school. We have a Win server 2012 r2 and windows 10 pro machines. I get Error 740 which so far I managed to get by with using cmd in elevated prompt then using this command (rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /il)then add the printer via browsing to the server. The strange thing is that we have 3 identical photocopiers in the school and I just cannot add one of them and of course that is what the user need the most. Any help would be much appreciated. As the title says, I am looking for a a way to password protect a hard drive from accidentally being formatted. This primarily relates to servers running Windows Server 2012 R2 and Hyper-V. A bit more information: Recently there was an incident in which the data drive of a server was accidentally formatted when attempting to fix Windows Server Backup. When setting up the backup the data drive was accidentally selected and then was formatted to use for the backup on the server. I am wondering if there is any way to password protect certain drives within a server from being formatted unless a password is entered first. A warning message of some sort would also be a bonus. Can this be done either using a feature within Windows or through a third party software? I apologise if this has been previously covered but I couldn’t find a solution anywhere else. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi all, We are midway through implementing a new 2012 r2 server environment and getting rid of CC4 forever. We are also putting SCCM in place and now need to develop SCCM images for all our PCs. All the drivers are currently stored in CC4. Bear with me, as I have zilch knowledge of CC4 and our network admin has got the day off but is there any way of extracting these driver files to save us having to resource them for SCCM or which folder are they usually stored in on the server? Any ideas??? Thanks very much

Hey Guys, really could do with some help here... we have migrated our file server over to a new one. I have moved everything over to our new file server and have changed the group policies. But after testing I have noticed issues. Most policies are working and have been picked up by the work stations but the printer mapping policies and the drive mapping policies seem to be not working. I have changed the drive mapping policies to the correct location. But when you go to my computer then click on one of the drives its still trying to connect to the old server (cpssvr01) not the new one (cpssvr1). (see pic) I have tried a GPupdate /force on CMD on the workstation but no luck. I am also having issues trying to change the map printers policy. When trying the change it to the correct printer path I get the following message. (see Pic) any ideas guys? Thanks, Lewis

We have created the home folder assigned to the domain users through the domain controller. Most of the users are filling the home folder with the Media files like Songs and Videos. I am migrating staff file servers and want to make sure that I get the NTFS permissions right first time as I have experienced in the past that it can be very messy and difficult to fix it later. The file server will host Home folders, shared folders, profiles, desktops, downloads and settings(for redirected favorites, links, searches and start menu) and will be located in the main folder ‘Staff’. These are shared and mapped via active directory using DFS paths. So the UNCs look like this: \\Domain\Staff\HomeFolders\%username%\ \\Domain\Staff\DesktopFolders\%username%\ \\Domain\Staff\DownloadsFolders\%username%\ \\Domain\Staff\Settings\%username%\ \\Domain\Staff\Profiles\%username%\ \\Domain\Staff\SharedFolders\ This is what I am trying to achieve: First of all, I would like to make the desktop folder read only so no one can save to the desktop. I would like to prevent all the users from changing the permissions and sharing the folders if folders if possible. The users should not be able to take ownership either. Not sure if there is any way to do this but I would also like to prevent them from putting the files directly in their home folders. I have created folders under SharedFolders for different departments and would like to prevent users from modifying the names of these or creating new folders in SharedFolders. The documents folder and settings will be redirected so I need to know the permissions for these parent folders. All, I've installed a new Server 2012 R2 box, which is going to be promoted to a Domain Controller. I have installed Volume Activation Services, added a KMS key and activated it (via phone) when I go to configuration, I cannot get any further. whether I am adding a firewall exception or not and/or adding records to the DNS zone, I press commit and get an error which reads: The following error has occurred. Please resolve the error and try again. Description: STATUS_SUCCESS anyone got any ideas / suggestions?

I am having issues with the WSUS server and thinking of rebuilding or reinstalling WSUS. Debating best home for WSUS server. WSUS is currently on a VM running as an App server with 8GB. No problems with server or utilization. The only problem is if I completely re-install WSUS services and experiment with other SUS products I can't reboot the server during the week because too many people are using it. There's also a small share volume on it as well which contains files people are always using. I have a Dell PowerEdge R530 with 32GB of RAM that runs the Backup Exec. Incrementals at night copied to a HDD, Full back up to HDD and tape on weekends. Seems like a powerful box that's only used a few hours a week for a very specific purpose. Seems like a good place to install SUS. The only drawback I see is that is SUS is pulling updates in middle of the night would have to be scheduled after the backup, but that doesn't seem like an issue, incrementals are only taking about 30 minutes each night during the week. Seems like a lot of server for one purpose. Also another advantage is I can reboot this server without interfering with other people working, Anyone see any issues with WSUS and Backup Exec on same box? Am I missing anything here in my thinking???
