Hi i have a computer that has been built for teacher use a couple years ago, i will refer this as "Domain A" the computer now isnt used by teacher but is to be used by other members of staff needing access to another domain "Domain B" "Domain A" is hosted on site and "Domain B" is host off site via the internet ive took it off Domain a this morning and have put the new computer onto Domain B the problem im having is. when the users log into domain B they dont get some of the Group policys set for domain b ive run GPResult /h report.html and read the report and is showing up the group policy client side extension problem. ive attached a JPG of the error within event viewer (Shown Below) can anyone tell me where there could be still reminance of the old Domain A and where i could delete anything from domain a. Im really trying to avoid the need to re image this pc. so if i can fix it this way that would be great im about 90% sure this problem is due to a GPP i set from Domain A which is still affecting the computer in Domain B Hope someone can help! Many thanks

Sorry to start another thread but can't find the answer to this question. Why is there no option to add "shared printer" in computer configuration. It is present in user configuration along with TCP/IP Printer. If I add by IP address will it work in exactly the same way? Why is there no set as default option in computer configuration? As a work around can i just add a shared printer in user configuration and use loopback processing to target this at all users who use a specified OU of computers? Also I am creating this GPO on a windows 7 machine for deployment on windows 7 clients but our DC is 2003 R2. I will apply hotfix You experience a long domain logon time in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 after you deploy Group Policy preferences to the computer Does it matter that i'm not running 2003 R2 not 2008 R2 server?

Good Morning, Here's an interesting one. In GPP, when I set an Internet Settings preference for any version of I.E., all the settings disappear after a few minutes. You re-open the preference and everything is removed. When viewing the XML in \\domain\sysvol\domain\policies\{guid}\Users\Preferences\InternetSetings - over time the entries slowly disappear, leaving only the targeting groups (with no settings) in the XML. I have tried with several GPOs, both old and new - it keeps happening. No other GPPs have any issues at all - just the internet ones. Every time I search Google, the only results are about people who can't find the old IE Maintenance policy, not this specific issue. Cheers for your help. Paul.

I am remapping drives using Group Policy Preferences. Before drive u:\ was for \\server\users and then the person had to go to their folder. I decided to make u: \\servers\users\username which makes more sense. I also wanted to make it more personal so I made the label 'My User Folder'. The mapping is correct but it has the old label "dewey on 'server\users" In the registry there is a key called MountPoints2 and it shows both the old new mapping, but the label is attached to the wrong one. What's up with that? I suppose I could give up my 'My User Folder' idea but I am pretty stubborn. Is it safe to delete the HKCU's MountPoints2 key? It does have a lot of other entries. Thanks Jane

It's everyone's favourite topic! And it's driving me bl%%dy mad at the moment and making me look bad to boot. We did the Windows 7 thing this summer, so printers needed redeploying which we did from a new 2k8R2 print server. We used to do printers by GPO (pushprinterconnections.exe etc.) but under 2k8R2, printers were never unlinked from roaming profiles, so students ended up with every printer in school added. Rubbish. So we moved to GPP which, 98% of the time, works fine. We can set the default, clear all printers etc. but intermittently, printers will fail to install on login. Each printer has its own GPO. Loopback processing is set to merge, and a shared printer is added under User Preferences using the FQDN of the server. Using the NetBIOS name was worse. Using the print server's IP made no difference. We need to add them shared for PCounter, we can't add them directly by IP. Setting a VBS script to force a gpupdate on login seems to fix the problem at login. Unfortunately when policy refreshes in the background, printers then sometimes disappear. Not a problem for most people, but some staff are logged on at machines for longer than an hour so get hit by this 90 minute refresh (this includes my line manager in SMT). If I set the group policy to not refresh printers during background policy refreshes, it prevents the login script from re-evaluating printers, so printers might be missing from login, therefore affecting more users. Not an improvement. All my printers are using the most up to date drivers available (Oki Executive Series, fwiw). The most common error is 0x80070bc4 No printers were found but occasionally 0x8007007a The data area passed to a system call is too small crops up as well. If I tick the Common option to Run in Logged On Users Security Context then I get errors about the environment being incorrect instead, and there's no improvement. 98% of the time it is fine. The printers are all added fine. There is no rhyme nor reason to the failures. I am going mad trying to pin this down. So: anyone know why this happens occasionally? Anyone know how to stop background refreshes without blocking the script, or a way to retrigger the script on background refresh? A way of getting more detailed logs than what I'm seeing in the application log? Or, if all else fails, anyone got a nice, quick, clean script to add a printer that won't slow logins down? No need for logic with the computer name etc. as the one-GPO-per-printer works fine. tl;dr: why won't printer GPP just work, goddammit.

I have a server 2008 r2 I have downloaded the new window 10 admx files I am not sure what to do next Do i copy them to the central sysvol\policy\policydefiniations How do I change the region? As its greyed out

We are locking down the C: drive in Win10 1809 ENT. We allow FULL CONTROL to %userprofile%\Documents, Downloads, Desktop, Picture and Favorites. However GPMC directs to the following path: C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile. How can we edit the paths to point to %userprofile%\Desktop instead in GPMC ? Screenshot attached.

Ever since upgrading to Windows 10 we're having intermittent issues with users printers not being added via GPP. Everything is set as it should be in GP, I looked into adding Print Deploy to our PaperCut license but at £1500 I just can't justify it. According to Google this seems to be a known issue, has anyone overcome this? Any help is greatly appreciated

Okay I will admit that I have spent too long now doing business support for the firm I work for but now I have been tasked with building designing and building a new school network. This also entails creating all the group policies for staff and students from scratch. What I'm after is a bit of a cheat's guide to help me speed up the process as I am having to do everything from printer and share deployment through roaming profiles to locking down the systems. The school goes from reception up to year 6 and uses a mix of laptops and desktop pc's along with laptops for all the staff. I have also got to document all the group polices used and the impact that they will have on security so any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Morning all. I have what i think may be a bizarre problem. We have an 2008 R2 + XP network. I'm moving over to Windows 7 and the current set up will not work at all. That's a Default Domain Policy containing 'defaults' and Proxy Server Details. Then 4/5 other GPOs containing specific Preferences, such as Drive Mapping, Document / Desktop redirections. This is working perfectly in XP. Now i've built a test Windows 7 PC, Proxy settings aren't applied for a student. After a bit of trial and error, it seems that as soon as there's a policy containing a User Preference, the proxy settings (my indicator) from DDP aren't applied. I'm very rusty in my GPO testing after spending a good 3 years messing about with it, so pardon the lack of other information gathered. I set up a new OU structure where the Win 7 Machine and Users are separate. Proxy is fine when only inheriting from DDP. As soon as there's a Preference added, it stops working again. I'd thought that getting the preferences working with XP would be the difficult part and that they'd be tailor made for Win 7. How wrong I was! Any help appreciated. Cheers Stu
