Hello, (I did notice a thread form a while ago posted by Duke, but after being in contact with him, he is still experiencing this issue. So I thought I would ask you guys again.) I am having an issue where - when a users my documents folder is redirected to a DFS share, windows explorer requires a manual refresh after creating a new folder, file, etc. (Interestingly, not when making a new briefcase) I have tried a number of MS knowledge base articles, a hot-fix and a registry change, all with no success. (( http:// support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823291 ; http:// support.microsoft.com/kb/873392 )) The problem only occurs when going through the my documents icon. If I map a home drive for the user to the exact same location (IE - H:\DFS\user\documents) , open that drive and make new folders, then there is no problem. Mapping my documents to H:\ also resolves the issue, however, as we need folder sync and people logging on off site with cached profiles this is not a workable solution (as H: will not map and there will be no access to their docs.) Has anyone managed to figure a fix for this? Thanks, Pete.

I have a Win 2003 Std SP2 as a terminal server, and has been one for the last 2 years. All of a sudden users are no longer able to get any mapped network drives. I use the mapped network drive script provided by EG but for the past week it doesn't want to play ball when logging onto the TS. Manually running the script works great but logging on and it won't map. Log onto any workstation or server and the drives will get mapped. Any one have any ideas what I can do to fix it? NB: All DCs are 2008 R2.

Mapped drives are set for our users by a script. For teaching staff it appears that two of those mapped drives are set to "always be available offline" but others (up to four for teaching users) are not. I thought this might be controlled by a Group Policy but can't see anywhere that individual mapped drives are controlled in such a way. Can anyone tell me where I can look, if there is a way to identify which GPOs might be responsible or how else they might be controlled like this? Thanks, Paul.

I am remapping drives using Group Policy Preferences. Before drive u:\ was for \\server\users and then the person had to go to their folder. I decided to make u: \\servers\users\username which makes more sense. I also wanted to make it more personal so I made the label 'My User Folder'. The mapping is correct but it has the old label "dewey on 'server\users" In the registry there is a key called MountPoints2 and it shows both the old new mapping, but the label is attached to the wrong one. What's up with that? I suppose I could give up my 'My User Folder' idea but I am pretty stubborn. Is it safe to delete the HKCU's MountPoints2 key? It does have a lot of other entries. Thanks Jane

We've just started a migration to Windows 7 and have set up folder redirection without a hitch. With XP we used to map the U: to the users documents folder on a server (\\server\share$\%username%). With Windows 7 each user folder redirects to its own location on the server (e.g. \\server\w7share$\%username%\Documents, \\server\w7share$\%username%\Pictures etc.) We now have the U: mapped to \\server\w7share$\%username% but this also displays the user's AppData folder. We are now considering moving the AppData to a different share (e.g. \\server\w7profile\%username%) but would prefer to keep things in one location and just hide the AppData folder from view. Is it possible to do that? Any alternative approaches worth considering?

Morning guys, I have just posted the below on Server Fault regarding an issue we are having with some of our desktops and users. I was just wondering if any of our friends in the world of academia had also come across this problem? Cheers Adam ---------- We have an interesting issue with one of our server shares, or possibly, our Win 7 desktops. When our users try to save files in a sub folder, either via copy/paste or through an application, to a mapped drive on our DC they receive an error saying "Path not found". They can however browse this folder and open files from it. This is where the "Path Not Found" error doesn't seem to stack up in my opinion. Users can however save files fine in the root folder of the mapped drive, it appears only to affect sub folders. It seems to be random which users and machines this affects. The users can log on to a different machine and be able to save in sub folders fine, on the same mapped drive. Event viewer hasn't been much help either. Currently, the only solution we have found is to image the machines affected which solves the issue. Our servers are Server 2008 R2 with Win 7 Pro desktops. Any help/pointers/suggestions would greatly be appreciated. windows server 2008 - "Path Not Found" when attempting to write to a sub folder within a mapped drive - Server Fault

Any help with the following issues greatly appreciated. User 1 - Can see all her drives and content when she is on remote but when she is in school and logs in normally; all the folders in her drives are empty! So she has to then log on to remote to see anything! User 2 - Can access remote ok but any work she does on remote and saves into the shared drives, does not appear on those drives when she is back in school. To access those files, she then has to log back into remote again. User 3 - Can't see anything in a particular mapped drive on remote. User 4 - Gets problems when trying to save files either on remote or logged in normally at school. Files will not save on anything except on to an external drive such as a USB stick. User 5 - Can't see a folder in a particular mapped drive on remote. All appear to have the correct permissions to the folders drives etc.

Hi! We have a sudden problem, literally just started happening this morning, where two windows machines running 8.1 aren't picking up the mapped shares or the printers. Nothing has been changed before the issue began. Any ideas??? It can't be the users because it all works fine when they log on to the windows 7 machines. Manually mapping drives works fine.
