Hi all, We're using Riso MFDs, and so are stuck with PaperCut MF (as they only support the "Lite" version of Hive, so we wouldn't be able to monitor copying, and the print quota system on Coreza Print doesn't support manual admin topups). For the last year since moving to Entra+Intune (syncing with the Standard Entra ID method, rather than paying out for an Entra ID DS), we've been working without the user client, and people are checking their balance on the MFD or the web UI. I am starting to investigate once again how to roll out the user client. PaperCut have instructions on how to install it with Intune, but they don't explain any way of getting it to do username matching correctly with Entra-joined machines. At present, it prompts for a username and password because Entra creates the local profile's username based on the Display Name (but without spaces, e.g. if the display name is "John A Smith", it uses "JohnASmith"), so it tries to automatically log in with that and of course fails as the user doesn't exist. Aliases would help (if they could be configured to remove the spaces), but we use RM Unify for account creation/deletion (which names staff accounts as "Mr J Smith") and we have two staff with the same first initial and surname, which would probably make a different local username and presumably cause conflicts when matching the username. Has anyone had success rolling out the PaperCut User Client to Entra-joined machines? Either there's no documentation out there or my Google-fu isn't working on this particular issue. I would hope there was a way it could be configured to check the UPN instead of the local profile's name, e.g. the output of "whoami /UPN" (which would give "[email protected]", which will match the UPN in PaperCut) instead of just "whoami" (which would give "azuread\johnasmith")

Hi All, For several months now we have been getting a server offline issue at my work with the printers. It happens for no specific reason to staff with any amount of access to the network, and to any printer (Most of the time, to the Follow Me Printer). The only fix on Windows 8.1 is to restart the Laptop. Alternatively, we have made a script that works for about an hour that deletes and re-adds the printer. For a permanent fix to that specific PC. We re-build them to Windows 7. If anyone has had this before or has any advice, I would be grateful Thanks, Charlie

I am after some advice and best practises for mapping printers Currently we use a print server and deploy printers using the right click and deploy to group policy method under print management, this maps the printer at computer GPO configuration level Often it works fine but sometimes it doesn't, usually when a member of staff or student comes to us saying they don't have any printers available a simple reboot can fix the issue When I map the printers via GPP however it seems to work every time - the issue here is that it then does not register via PaperCut, even though I have set the port IP type to a PaperCut port Arena, our PaperCut support company themselves say that this method of GPP is not supported with PaperCut It's getting to be an annoying problem I would like to fix once and for all, we are running windows 10 1709 for client desktops and server 2016 for the print server

We use InVentry for staff/visitor/pupil access. In the event of an emergency admin staff and/or fire marshals need to print an evacuation list. We also have Papercut print management. Currently a staff member has to authorise multiple print jobs to print off the 6 or 7 pages of the evac report. I have contacted InVentry to see whether the report can be condensed into a single print file, but they claim that this is impossible (some excuse about reading from multiple data sources). Has anyone come across this or a similar situation, or can any InVentry or Papercut experts suggest a way forward. Thanks people.

Hi All, I saw some similar posts about creating Papercut printer scripts here so I'm hoping you can help me out. I'm looking to create a printer script in Papercut that will discount any job sent to any printer during off-peak hours (M-R 4-8pm and Sunday 12-5pm). I asked for Papercut's assistance but all I was told was that I'm missing some semicolons and I should be all set. Can someone take a look at whet we've written and offer any insight? /** Discount printing during off-peak * * Encourage users to print during periods of low * activity by offering a discount of 20% during * the period between 4:00pm and 8:00pm M-R, and * the period between 12:00pm and 5:00pm on Sundays. */ var SUNDAY = 0; var MONDAY = 1; var TUESDAY = 2; var WEDNESDAY = 3; var THURSDAY = 4; function getMinutesSinceMidnight(hours, minutes) { return 60 * hours + minutes; } function printJobHook(inputs, actions) { //Set times for discounts. var START_OF_DISC = getMinutesSinceMidnight(16, 00); //4:00pm var END_OF_DISC = getMinutesSinceMidnight(20, 00); //8:00pm var SUN_DISC_START = getMinutesSinceMidnight(12, 00); //12:00pm var SUN_DISC_END = getMinutesSinceMidnight(17, 00);//5:00pm var day = inputs.job.date.getDay(); var hours = inputs.job.date.getHours(); var minutes = inputs.job.date.getMinutes(); var timeOfJob = getMinutesSinceMidnight(hours, minutes); var inDiscountDays = (SUNDAY >= day && day <= THURSDAY); var inDiscountTimes = ((timeOfJob >= START_OF_DISC && timeOfJob <= END_OF_DISC) || (timeOfJob >= SUN_DISC_START && timeOfJob <= SUN_DISC_END)); if (inDiscountDays && inDiscountTimes) { //Apply 20% discount: var newCost = inputs.job.cost * 0.80; actions.job.setCost(newCost); // Record that as discount was applied in the job comment. actions.job.addComment("20% off-peak discount applied"); } } Thanks, Max

Is there a known issue with Papercut detecting iffy copies on 2008 R2? Migrated over from Server 2003 to 2008 R2. Everything went across OK however for some reason if someone prints 8 copies of 1 page, Papercut allows it (more than 3 copies are set to be blocked, this worked before)- it logs that 1 copy at 8 pages has been printed! Tested this with a few programs and it's true on just about everything. Office 2010 on our PCs do it, 2003 on the clients do it Any clues?

Evening Guys, Got a strange issue when hooking up our Riso ComColor 7150 (heap of scrap plastic and metal to me). When a job is redirected to the Riso print queue it goes in to an error state. Some key info: We are using the Papercut global print driver for the FollowMe input queue The actual printer queues for the printer have their respected driver (e.g. FollowME has the Global Print Driver and the Riso has the Riso 7150 driver) In the print logs in papercut i am seeing these errors everytime a job is redirected to the print queue: 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 DEBUG: PaperCut MF version 18.2.6.46457 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 DEBUG: Original spool file: C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\00147.SPL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 DEBUG: Transform file: D:\Program Files\PaperCut MF\providers\print\win\transforms\system\postscript\pc-win\riso.comcolor.type.transform 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 DEBUG: ==================================================================================================== 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 ERROR: obj_list_size: obj_list==NULL 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 DEBUG: Internal state of interpreter 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 DEBUG: ==================================================================================================== 2018-10-26 18:58:03,628 DEBUG: Applying 1 replacements to 'C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\00147.SPL' 2018-10-26 18:58:08,769 ERROR: Failed to open spool file to copy to archive: C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\00148.SPL - The system cannot find the file specified. Hi all, Is there a way to do this ? Our Papercut user groups are synced with our AD. Some users within those groups require a higher weekly credit than others. Is there a way to auto apply more credit per user even though the top up balance is set on the Groups page. As far as I can see scheduled credit top ups can only be applied at group level. If I give those individuals an overdraft they still run out after a period if time when it max's out. I don't want to have to create a new AD group with just those users. Is there another way ? I'm thinking add a new user group in AD and adding them to it... but can users be in 2 groups in Papercut and if so which group membership would take precedence ?? Cheers in advance

Hi everybody ! I try to make a script in Papercut so I can change the information in the "job-originating-user-name" variable with, for example, %user_full_name% used by Papercut to make watermarks. I'm on a 10.7.5 iMac with CUPS 1.5.4 and Papercut NG 14.1 (build 26830) If needed, I may upgrade the CUPS software. The purpose of this is simple: I want to be able to print from an iOS device with a cover page where I see the username / full name instead of "guest" or "mobile". Please note that the cover page isn't included in the document or from the application where we print the document, but is added by the printer automatically. Thank you !

Hi, My name is Kent Nolan and I work in Tech Support for PaperCut. A while back I had the idea of running a competition that involved people coming up with the most creative/fun script they can make. We've seen some funny scripts in the past that have come through support, mainly the one about the IT guy who forwarded every fifth print job through to the principal's office, resulting in concert tickets being snapped up by a lucky assistant. It is scripts like that one that lead me to this idea; how geeky can you make these scripts? There are plenty of people who are better at JavaScript than I am - in fact my example script is pretty lazy, have a look at the code. Chris Dance (one of the PaperCut founders) has written a script too and that one is pretty impressive. And if you win, first place is a Raspberry Pi with all the trimmings, second and third place get a Raspberry Pi unit too. If your script doesn't win a Raspberry Pi but it’s really geeky, we have some ThinkGeek vouchers to give away. If you want to play, check out our competition page and when you’re ready, you can enter by either: Posting your script as an attachment below. Linking us to your blog. Creating a GitHub branch for it (also post a link below). Or by emailing it to the following address: [email protected] If you have any questions, let me know, I’ll be lurking around. Good luck, have fun.

For those with a current subscription to a premium upgrade assurance plan, you can now download the latest version (12) of papercut. A couple of really nice features - convert to grey scale (auto convert colour prints to grey scale) and auto convert singled sided to duplex. Could save a fair bit on paper and toners. PaperCut 12.0 automatically converts print jobs to grayscale and duplex – PaperCut Blog / News

I am currently designing and implementing a new Active Directory domain and am looking for a cashless solution to provide an account for our students to pay for printing, catering and library fines. Ideally I would like students to be able to credit a single account for all purposes. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

Now that VBScript is going end-of-life, we are once again having to look at how we make print queues available to users. Currently we have a logon script for students (and student-like accounts, such as exam accounts) that runs a VBScript that connects to the appropriate print queues, based on the AD computer object’s Location attribute. It also has logic around retrying if the connection isn’t successful the first time. We’ve tried GPO deployment in the past and found it to be too unreliable. It’s not good enough for it to work every other login, it needs to work every time consistently or we can’t use it. GPO deployment has no mechanism to enable retrying the printer connection if it doesn’t work the first time. We block PowerShell for students, so we can’t just turn the script into a PowerShell script, unless there’s a way to block PowerShell except for logon scripts PaperCut Print Deploy is out, as we’d have to pay an additional fee to have more than one Zone, and maintaining the Zones would be a nightmare as it doesn’t have any functionality around looking at the computer object’s Location attribute Given the above limitations, can anyone suggest a method we can use for print queue deployment to students in place of our existing VBScript?

Hi all! We've just installed new copiers across our estate and Print queues have never deployed reliably using GPP so I started to look at alternatives and PaperCut Print Deploy looks great and seems to work very well. I don't think this is possible by the looks of it but if you don't ask... Can Print Deploy install domain networked printers when in school and once removed and taken home install Universal Print so staff can print from home? Thanks!

At our MATs HQ, we have two Ricoh MP C5503 copiers, both refurb purchases and aren't on any lease. HQ now wants to do secure printing on them. There is the Locked print option, but this is per user setting and is lost on application closure. The alternative is PaperCut but is it possible to purchase PaperCut on it's own, without hardware lease? Are there any better solutions for this scenario to Papercut? Any advice/suggestions appreciated.

Hi all, I've got an issue where the Examinations Officer is using Microsoft Print to PDF in SIMS, this is calling the Papercut prompt to select a department whenever attempting to save the output of reports. For some strange reason, this occurs on SIMS Examinations and works on a multitude of other software. Troubleshooting: I have set Microsoft Print to PDF as the default printer It utilises the Print to File Port Driver is Microsoft Print To PDF On SIMS Printer Setup is set as Microsoft Print to PDF I am at a loss as to why Papercut would see this as a call to arms, am I missing some configuration?

Hey all, Wondering if anyone has experienced this... I'm scratching my head here ! Bunch of new PC's went in over the summer. All set up with a nice new software image. They've been running fine for a couple of weeks but last week, for quite a few users - all using the new machines - the 'virtual' printer disappeared and the Papercut MF Client doesn't start on log in. I've had to re-add the printer and manually open the client from the program menu. Then everything works like it should. Its only happening on these new machines (all in the same OU - printer deployed per user from Server 2012. The same user working on their laptop - works as normal - no problem. One thing I was getting on a few of them during the summer was that group policy failed for 'Computer Configuration' only. --> 'The network was not started or not present' error. Only other GPO changes I've made since then is deploying Chrome and the ADMX templates. Am I missing something obvious here ? Cheers in advance
