Hi all! I have a problem that a GPO I have seems to be connecting all of the printers that we have installed on our windows server 2012 server rather than just the one selected to map (User configuration>Preferences>Control Panel Settings>Printers) I have point and print set to the print server but if I disable this, it seems to make no difference. Has anyone else come across this? Any ideas anyone? Many thanks all in advance Matt

Hey guys, I'm creating a new domain for a department in the district who has a separate setup than the rest of our district, and I've always used .local domains in the past. However, for this setup I'm thinking of using the actual domain name, . Now, if I use that domain name when I configure this new server running Windows Server 2012 Standard when I'm adding the Active Directory role, can anyone see any downsides? This server also hosts the website for this department via IIS [previously 6 on 2003, now will be 8 on 2012], which is accessed at , the same domain. As I said, in the past, I've used .local on their last network [XP/Server 2003, which I'm currently switching them from and then updating their laptops to Windows 7 and connecting to the new domain once I've configured it]. Does anyone see a problem with using the same domain name as the internal Active Directory Domain? I'd usually think not, but I seem to remember in University at one point our instructor saying "if you make the domain name the same as your external domain name you may have some issues". Any advice would be great! I plan to install the Active Directory roll today. Thanks in advance!

Greetings! I've got a bit of a strange one, its either related to my router or Server essentials 2012, but i can't find anything wrong on the router yet, so I thought i'd try here. I recently swapped out a basic linksys router for a Cisco RV042G, as part of a future plan to link to sites together. I copied over all firewall and static IP assignments, and bingo! everything is peachy. Except, they can't resolve their own website. Of course, i assume this has to do with the router, since it wasn't an issue before, but i can't see anything wrong. So, i'm assuming i might have done something wrong on the DNS module of SE2012, that was somehow a non-issue until i switched to a "pro-sumer" router. They can visit any website, but their own. other possible relevant info: Website url is www.businessname.com local domain is businessname.local server has its own IP, as well as 2 ISP and 1 Google DNS entered into the NIC settings, but just 2 ISP and 1 google DNS entered as a forwarders. computers connected to the network, use the Server's IP, and one ISP DNS address. this is driving me crazy and i think i don't quite know enough, and instead have just made myself dangerous, instead of useful. Thanks in advance, Doomed.

Hi everyone, I'm running into an issue with the new ActiveX blocking that Microsoft implemented. This particular network has a Windows Server 2012 [non R2] domain controller, and Windows 7 clients running IE 11. The problem is that even though the clients and server are fully up to date, I can't see the new ADMX templates for "Turn off blocking of outdated ActiveX controls for Internet Explorer on specific domains" and other new entries added due to the new ActiveX blocking. I would assume this is because Windows Server 2012 uses IE 10, not 11 [which I still think is insane that it needs to upgrade to R2 just to get a new free browser...but anyway]. Our Windows 7 clients use Java 6 Update 45, as the developer of the application they use only supports Java 6. I'm trying to enable the "Turn off blocking of outdated ActiveX controls for Internet Explorer on specific domains" GPO and push it down to allow those clients to access this site. But I can't see those settings in the GPO. I've tried downloading the ADMX files [KB2841134] and adding the template to the GPO I want to add the setting to by opening the GPO and right clicking Admiistrative Templates and choosing Add/Remove templates. This doesn't do squat. If I do that and then check Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Internet Explorer>Security Features>Add-on Management, I see no new settings. Has anyone had to bypass blocking for older versions of Java on Server 2012 [non R2] and actually had it work? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

In my organization i have domain network with windows server 2008. i'm planning migration to domain network windows server 2012. my network has: AD, Certificate server,DHCP, WSUS. which order for upgrading? maybe the first, i must upgrade AD? can you give me some guide

I have a Windows 2012 server that only has two drives, a C:\ drive where the OS is installed, and an E:\ drive where the data is kept. To tighten up security I have added two domain user accounts to the "Administrators" security group on the server, the idea is that they will be able to log on to the server with their domain account so I do not need to create a local admin account for them. Both the domain users can log on with no problem but they need to copy a file to a folder on the E:\ drive but they always get an error message saying they do not have permissions to do this. Both the accounts are in the administrators group so should be able to do this. Any help would be appreciated.
