I have been trying to successfully deploy Java 6 Update 23 using a GPO to an active directory group with two computer in it for testing, they are both running Windows XP. I have followed the guide located at Windows IT Pro -- Search "Use Group Policy to Distribute JRE With Its Automatic Update Feature Disabled" , however whenever I reach the end of Step 4 when the software should be installed upon restart, instead I receive 5 Events under 'Application' in the Event Viewer upon restart. I have checked the article at 404TechSupport -- Search "Deploying Java through Group Policy and Java RE Improvements" and it suggests that I need the Data1.cab file to be in the same location as the .MSI and the .MST that was created with Orca by me. After adding the Data1.cab file along with another .MST (Sp1033.MST) that was in the directory with the .MSI to a shared network drive that is available to all users, I am still given the same Events through the viewer. I have double-checked permissions @ the GPO along with permissions @ the networked folder and everything seems in order; the directory along with the files are able to be reached through Windows Explorer by all users. Does anyone have any advice for me? I am putting the GPO together under Windows Server 2008 if that comes into play also. PS--Sorry about lack of links, couldn't get to post with the urls in post. Below I will include the information from the five Events: Event Type: Information Event Source: Application Management Event Category: None Event ID: 301 Date: 2/10/2011 Time: 12:02:46 PM User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: PORTABLE2 Description: The assignment of application Java™ 6 Update 23 from policy JAVAtest@@2 succeeded. Hi all, I am just in the process of learning about SCCM and would like some advise please. I have heard that is possible to link your SCCM collections to your AD OU's so that when I place a computer in a certain OU (say Design technolgy) it automatically picks up the Design Technology specific software package advertisements and installs them. Has anyone successfully implemented this in a school environment? I found this guide earlier: Deploy software through AD Groups linked to Collections in SCCM - www.windows-noob.com Is that what I need to do? Any advise or tips or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all

Hi all, Has anyone experienced a system that was deploying software successfully using GPOs suddenly stop working for no apparent reason ? The server OS is 2003, release 2, SP1 and all the clients are XP either SP2 or SP3. I have used GPOs to deploy many packages on our network, but not for the last few months. Now I come deploy Flash Player 10 and it refuses to work. I've spent a couple of days now trying to resolve it (created new install point, new GPOs, checked permissions etc etc) and failed. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar and solved it. Thanks, Steve.

Hi, I'm new to this software but have installed v1606 on SQL Server 2014 and configured all relevant features for basic use. I've pushed out the client from the console to my machines and this has completed successfully so going by this my DP and Boundaries are configured correctly otherwise the client install process wouldn't complete in the first place. The application also successfully distributed to the DP so it's available. I tried deploying an application to a test collection I setup with one test machine as a member but the deployment just sits on the Install action with a compliance of 0%. I've also noticed that and Client Operations I initiate sit there with an active status and never complete. Everything has gone smooth up to this point but feel like I've missed something obvious?

We have systems that allow us to deploy software to computers while they're connected to our network, but is there any way / any system (not SCCM or Intune though because we don't have those) that would allow us to deploy software to college owned computers over the Internet? Basically for situations where staff or students working remotely say "oh I need X piece of software but this laptop hasn't got it". Any suggestions / recommendations?

Hi Advice needed! Im wanting to deploy all my software in school via a centrally managed console on my server, at the moment i currently install all the software i need by incorporating them into my images on WDS. but this isn't flexible enough for me. also need to be able to push out any plugins updates ie flash, java etc... now my 2015 budget is about to start and i need to get costings for a good program, I'm currently looking on Google and its coming up with tons of software that will do all this from a centrally managed console, now my question is, any recommendations??? I'm running a W2K8 R2 Environment with Win 7 Pro x64 Client Domain. take into note, not all of my software are in .msi format and some are in .exe so need to be able to deploy these as well, not sure if they can be run silently either, that i will have to find out along the way Not sure if ive posted in the correct area, couldnt find anywhere in the forums main page to post this related thread, nor could i find a previous post similar to this. sorry to admins!

Hi All, There isn't a clear post for how to deploy iTunes using group policy. As iPads are making their way into education, especially for staff, you may find this post useful. Here is a link to my YouTube video of the deployment process: ORCA is required from the Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows Kit - https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=8279 Controls can be configured using the a registry key: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201677 Hope this helps

Anyone who uses Mimio will be pleased to hear that they have released version 10 of their IWB software. The big news is that this one is deployable with MSI without having to pester their support for 9.14. Thats right, the main stream release is an MSI that is deployable. I think they just saved 20 years or more worth of man hours by making it automatable. You have to go to the US site as usual to get it as they are still trying to peddel 9.12 on the rest of the world, here is a direct link to the download and registration page: http://www.mimio.com/en-NA/Support/Downloads/Windows.aspx @bond1973, @dana_lehman, @GoodheadDC, @Erroneus, @tdog - this may interest you.

I'm wanting some advice guys. Currently setting up a deployment share / server for our school so that i am able to deploy O/S and Applications centrally from my deployment server. in the past I just installed all applications and updates into an image file and deployed that through out school using WDS. as you know this isn't manageable /scalable as well as the image being huge! now want to move away from this and keep everything separate so its more manageable. My main goal here is to deploy software around school after the O/S deployment Currently using WDS (as mentioned) and MDT 2013 (only just started using this) most of out software is in exe format, some allow quiet switches and some don't want to know any switches! I have enquired about a software deployment tool that will install the software after the O/S deployment, and have been advised on SCCM 2012 I have no experience on SCCM and have had a look on a few YouTube videos and looks mind blowing. any advice. am I looking in the right area. would SCCM do the job for me? I want to get this right. Thanks

Hi guys, I have a very annoying issue (either that or I'm being blonde!) I am trying to run this script to map part of a piece of software to teacher laptops, however the script doesn't work and I can't see where I am going wrong, even after changing certain parts of it. Does anything look wrong with this? set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WshShell.Run "runas /user:exambase""\\hge-apps01\Packages\ExamWizard\Button_B.exe""" WScript.Sleep 1000 WshShell.Sendkeys "Password1~" WScript.Quit Basically, the cmd prompt will appear, then within seconds a few lines of txt will appear and close the window before I can see what it says. Any help would be appreciated.
