Hi, So I have been asked to enable the sound options for Year 7 & 8 students at our school (for 'yesterday' as per usual!)- we have RM CC4 and 'somewhere' in one of the 47 GPO's there is a restriction on staff & students from being able to see the "Sound & Multimedia" option in control panel or indeed see the volume icon on their taskbars. Is there any way to see which group policy is being applied / takes precedence? It has been a very long time since I played with group policy and the policy I can see within the RM Management Console are less than the group policies within the usual group policy management panel on the server. If memory serves, I would have to enable access globally and then restrict it to individual groups? Is that right? Many thanks for any help in advance!

Hi all, Not sure if this is the best section for this but here goes. I'm having an odd issue with windows 7 client computers applying GPO's in the school I work at. When users first log on the user GPO isn't always applied, if the user logs out and in again the policy is applied. This only happens on my Windows 7 Machines. Background: Server = 2003 Standard 32 Affected Clients = Windows 7 Pro 32 GPO's are set up with separate computer and User GPO (different GPO for Pupil and Staff). Other GPO's apply items such as printer settings software and some scripts. Additional - my logon scripts contains the GPUPDATE command which may help the second logon. Any Ideas?? Thanks

I have software deployment policies in Group Policy. I have just downloaded WG-Authentication-Client_11_9_4.msi to deploy it using Group Policy. I created a Policy for the entire domain and under computer configuration I added the software installation. I created a share that gives read access to everyone. However, on my Windows 7 and 8 workstations the msi just does not seem to install. It however does install on the Windows 10 machines and server 2008 servers. Any idea what could be wrong?

Hi all, Has anyone experienced a system that was deploying software successfully using GPOs suddenly stop working for no apparent reason ? The server OS is 2003, release 2, SP1 and all the clients are XP either SP2 or SP3. I have used GPOs to deploy many packages on our network, but not for the last few months. Now I come deploy Flash Player 10 and it refuses to work. I've spent a couple of days now trying to resolve it (created new install point, new GPOs, checked permissions etc etc) and failed. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar and solved it. Thanks, Steve.

We have implemented a GPO with Applocker configured. On the whole it is working just fine, allowing login scripts to run, blocking exe's from memory sticks etc. However we have 2 shares where we put programs that run from the network e.g. \\svr-app1\public\ \\svr-app2\public\networkprograms\ each of these shares has a mapped drive on the windows 7 client computers. (O:\ = \\svr-app1\public\, P:\ = \\svr-app2\public\) Try as I might, I cannot get a rule to allow executeables to run from either of these locations. I have created rules such as Allow Everyone O:\* Allow Everyone O:\*.* Allow Everyone O:\*\ Allow Everyone \\svr-app1\public\* Allow Everyone \\svr-app1\public\*.* Allow Everyone \\svr-app1\public\*\* but none of these work. When trying to run something we get an error like P:\VPLab9\VPLab9.exe This program is blocked by group policy, blah blah blah Anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong? (looking at the event log, the program was blocked because it didnt match any rule)

Morning everyone, We have recently made the move to Office 2016 from Office 2010 at our school, and for the most part the migration has gone fine. However now I am getting reports of student losing work. Upon investigation I have realised that students are now able to save office documents to "Network Locations" in My Computer. This is a location in their local C drive profiles that get automatically cleared on a weekly basis. They should be saving to their home network drive. Their home drives are already set as the default save location in the office GPOs. I have a screenshot attached to show what I mean. I have had a look around our office GPOs however can't see where I can block this. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks. Regards Harry

Hey guys, So recently i have set up a 2012 R2 Secondary DC on my network, to replace an old 2003 DC. Users desktops and start menus were redirected to the old server, but are now redirected to the new server. I have updated all GPO's and logon scripts to point clients to the new server etc. I have a small handful of PC's that will not look to the new server for the desktop and start menu. I have done gpupdate /force, all scripts changed and GPO's are even replicating with new redirection settings to the old server, but still clients look at the old folders...why!? Driving me insane! Thanks in advance Regards Harry

Dear All, Recently I followed guide to make deployment of office 2010 through start-up scripts, as per guide I applied it to computers so I've two OU's one for laptops and one for desktops. I applied it to both and the result was good, I tested on 3/4 machines as soon as i Joined to our windows domain a copy of office 2010 was installed on them. But today I found this that due to some maintenance I restarted one of our Win 2008 R2 server which is member of our windows domain and the OU it lies , I did not link the GPO of office 2010 deployment to it, but strange after I restarted this server after few seconds I found office 2010 installed on it as well, this is something I really don't want. When I only linked the GPO to desktop and laptops OU how this is happening. Please assist for this and see attached screen shot, if more details needed please let me know. Regards, Wajeeh
