Hi We've just deployed System centre 2012 R2 deployed into our network and its been brill so far but there's just a little thing in the back of mind i'm wondering if anyone can answer for me as I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. (my Google-ninja skills have failed me) Does anyone know if after an application has been deployed to a device collection, whether or not a user needs to be logged in for the software to install, or will it install without any interaction from a user/admin? Thanks in advanced Adam

Good afternoon all, Right, I am replacing a physical 2012 R2 DC (which also runs File Server, DHCP, DNS etc.) because not only has the performance degraded massively, it is also now out of warranty. This is the ONLY server in the academy of 3 classrooms (2 equipped with PC's). I have promoted a new 2012 R2 (destination) server to DC and set up replication of the SYSVOL folders with DFS management (which is installed on the source server). I have also transferred all FSMO roles to the destination server. I am now stuck at the transferring files part... I was originally going to use File Server Migration Tools to transfer everything over, but it does state that this cannot be ran on a DC. I quite like the idea of having DFS namespaces, but hI'm still not sure this is the best solution. The source server contains learners home drives (etc.) which are created and mapped using a GPO and is sized around 200GB all together. What do you think the best solution is for completing the migration? Thanks

Hi we're having a new server installed soon - Windows Server 2012 R2. We need a backup solution, we've not got a huge amount of data (less that 1TB) as we're a small school. The company is keen for us to use their cloud storage (£1/GB per year) but the ongoing costs aren't ideal for us. I enquired about a NAS solution but they said they had issues with Windows backup locking up the server so would have to switch off the shadow copy/previous versions function. Does anyone have any experience of this problem (if it is a problem)? I guessing other people do back up to NAS drives, so what solution do they use? Thanks!

I'm looking at NAS solution to backup our Windows Server 2012 R2 to. One of them (Buffalo) uses Windows Storage Server 2012 Workgroup edition, which says it's limited to 50 users which I'm a little confused by. We have 150 users on out main server, but if I am using the the NAS to backup does this matter (as it'd be one 'user' connecting to the NAS)? If it does, can anyone recommend a NAS box that will work with Windows Server 2012 R2 with a 2x2TB storage?

Hi all, I wondered if anyone knows the best way I can roll this R;pple Suicide Prevention (ripplesuicideprevention.com) Microsoft Edge Extension out so that it goes on all the laptops/computers in the school. The idea is that if a user was to search for any of the Suicide keywords that it re-directs you to another page offering help. Is it even something that I can roll out via GPO on a Windows 2012 Standard server? Thanks in advance as always. CC

Hi there, We have Windows Server 2012 print server with number of shared printers. Clients are Windows 7 - both 32 and 64 bit. Printers are connected to clients by *.vbs script located in all users Startup directory. Everything was working fine until we changed the printers drivers. Originally all printer drivers were type 4, unfortunately those drivers are not compatible with PCounter - software for print accounting. We changed all drivers for type 3 and now non-admin users cannot update drivers on the client and therefore cannot connect to the printer. Group Policy settings: Devices: Prevent users from installing printer drivers - Disabled Print and Point Restrictions - Enabled/Do not show warning or elevation prompt (for both installing new and update existing drivers. That settings is enabled for Computer and User Configuration) Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these device setup classes - Enabled. Added classes are {4d36e979-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}, {4658ee7e-f050-11d1-b6bd-00c04fa372a7}, {48721b56-6795-11d2-b1a8-0080c72e74a2} On the new installed client systems non-admin users can connect to the printers and proper drivers are loaded, but if the printer was connected before we changed drivers on the server the update is restricted. Removing installed network printers, removing local user profiles, deleting the drivers from driver store does not help. Adding and installing proper drivers to the driver store (by pnputil) doesn't help either. Any ideas apart from re-ghosting all students computers? Thanks in advance. Regards.
