Hi, I am really struggling to get volunteers to help with my research, busy schools and staff, students off. I am based in Congleton, but a student at Liverpool University. As part of my MSc Computer Science research, I have designed a workbook to help students design algorithms for correct programs. The workbook needs to be evaluated, preferably by a Computer Science teacher, as it was designed for KS4 and KS5 students. I am struggling to get involvement from local schools and have already approached CAS, BCS, Teach Computing, TES and posted on their forums. Is there anyone out there... Angela

Hi I have been asked to deploy Python 3.7.4 by the head of Computer Science. After visiting the Python.org website it appears that there are no MSI installers available for download for recent versions of Python. I wondered if anyone has a Python 3.7.4 MSI that I could borrow please We are currently running version 3.3.2 Unfortunately we don't have SCCM or any third party tools to wrap the EXE. Thanks

Hi All, We have Python installed on our ICT machines (all running Win10 X64). However, with the advent of a new A Level ICT course being taught we have had to install other software that has added to the versions of Python on these systems. Now, when a *.Py file is right clicked, we get at least two and sometimes three "edit with IDLE" options on the context menu. The A Level teacher has asked me to remove the options for all Python versions except 3.4.3. There are at least 25 computers to sort out and I know it's a registry change but I'm hoping there is an easy way to apply the change to all the machines as a blanket fix that will run on all of them whether or not they have the issue. If not I am going to have to logon to each one manually and make the changes. This may not even be the correct forum for this question but I thought I'd try here first as readers may have more specific Python knowledge and I may get a quicker answer TIA Mark P.

Teacher wants a Python editor that has a debugger in it and suggested "MU". I've resisted any program that can compile as a pupil could in theory copy and paste code that is malicious and run on the PC. I've always pointed them to online editors. Am I being overly cautious?

The staff want to introduce python programming into the school. I was wondering how this can be done safely. My concern is that a pupil will cut and paste malicious code into python make an exe and run it. Also a program that is easy to deploy would be nice

I have been successfully running Python 3.3 on a school laptop. I can run IDLE and up comes the shell. Open a new edit window and save my code etc. F5 and run the code, no problem. Until yesterday that is. Yesterday opening an editing/script window caused the program to shut-down. So, what could be causing this? My network manager has no idea what is causing it and cannot help me. The best I can come up with is the SRP in the GPO. Any ideas what could be stopping this from running?

Hello All, I have a small web server application I've written in Python that goes and gets some data from a database system and returns it to the user as XML. That part works fine - I can run the Python web server application from the command line and I can have clients connect to it and get data back. At the moment, to run the web server I have to be logged in to our server as the administrator user and I have to manually start the web server. I want to have the web server automatically start on system start as a service and run in the background. Using code from ActiveState's site and StackOverflow, I have a pretty good idea of how to go about creating a service, and I think I've got that bit sorted - I can install and start my web server as a Windows service. I can't, however, figure out how to stop the service again. My web server is created from a BaseHTTPServer: server = BaseHTTPServer.HTTPServer(('', 8081), SIMSAPIServerHandler) server.serve_forever() The serve_forever() call, naturally enough, makes the web server sit in an infinite loop and wait for HTTP connections (or a ctrl-break keypress, not useful for a service). I get the idea from the example code above that your main() function is supposed to sit in an infinite loop and only break out of it when it comes accross a "stop" condition. My main calls serve_forever(). I have a SvcStop function: def SvcStop(self): self.ReportServiceStatus(win32service.SERVICE_STOP_PENDING) exit(0) Which seems to get called when I do "python myservice stop" from the command line (I can put a debug line in there that produces output to a file) but doesn't actually exit the whole service - subsequent calls to "python myservice start" gives me an error: and subsequent calls to stop gives me: I think I need either some replacement for serve_forever (serve_until_stop_received, or whatever) or I need some way of modifying SvcStop so it stops the whole service. I woke up this morning, looked out the window, the sun hit my face and put me in a bit of a sharing kind of mood! I suppose a little bit of self promotion mood as well sorry So here goes. Over the past few weeks I have setup and installed an LCD Display on our Techies office door after having it changed to some sort of sound proofed lead lined door that the pupils could not here us shouting come in at all! I also had another reason as you will read (more of an excuse to play really) I have wrote up a quick overview if you are interested with some pictures here kism3t1: My Work and all code is available at the bottom of the page for anyone wanting a look. It might be a nice addition to your office? It is controllable over the network with a simple python server/client app (The IP and ports are hardcoded im afraid) I had to keep it simple for the pupils, plus im a bit simple We really do use this everyday and thought it might be nice to share with everyone, so hope you like it.

Hi Everyone, I'm hoping this is the right forum. I'm having an issue with install packages via pip. This is the error I get: Could not fetch URL https://pypi.python.org/simple/requests/: There was a problem confirming the ssl certificate: HTTPSConnectionPool(host='pypi.python.org', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: /simple/requests/ (Caused by SSLError(SSLError(1, '[sSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed (_ssl.c:833)'),)) - skipping I've spoken to the technicians at my school, they said their was an issue with pypi.org's safety and they couldn't unblock the URL because of it. Is anyone aware of a way to safely install Python packages? Ideally I don't want to use an online IDE as our internet is currently very slow and temperamental. Thank you

Hi all, Has anyone managed to actually get Pygame working correctly on a school network? Students can't access CMD so they can't import the libraries that way. We have PyScripter however, when I go to run it in 'remote mode' it just hangs when I enter the install command. If you've managed to get it working, how?!

Hi All, I have had a few students having issues with running modules in Python. I have discovered what is happening they are trying to use turtle and creating a module called Turtle.py then trying to run the module they get an error as its trying to import the file rather than the module. once it has broken it writes something to their data folder because as soon as i gave my test account a fresh data path it sorts it. does anyone know locations that IDLE writes to so i can try and clear those files rather than creating new data paths for students with the issue. Hello I have been asked to install Pygame by the head of computing. I have never installed Pygame previously so I looked online and it looked pretty straight forward. I entered the command pip install Pygame at the command prompt, as the tutorial advised but the installation failed. The error implied that the ‘tunnel connection failed: 407 Proxy Authorisation Required’. The installation obviously can’t authenticate with the school proxy server, but I do not know how to bypass this? I did look if there are any MSI’s for Pygame and there is a downloads page on the Pygame site, but it’s not apparent as to which download that I require? The version of Python installed in school is 3.7.4 if that’s any help? Just wondered if anyone knows of a way of installing the correct version of Pygame for Python 3.7.4 without using the command line as I can’t bypass the proxy? Thanks!

i have been tasked with setting up python in our computer science lab, part of their course is to learn python. i herd that there has been many problems with installing python in schools one being that the default save directory is on the C:\\ drive which is no good. is there a way of installing this successfully? the default save directory will need to be in student documents area. i would appreciate any advise.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have been asked by a teacher to make several additional Python libraries (PyGame, OpenAI, Numpy, OpenCV, Pandas, TensorFlow & PIL) available to all students using PCs in the IT suites. We use PDQ Deploy as much as we can, and I've used it to deploy IDLE and Python 3 with no problems but I'm struggling with with how to install additional libraries. Does anyone have any advice, or even better, PDQ packages? Installing to the C drive is preferable to AppData but I'll take whatever I can get! Thanks so much!

Hi All, Just looking at our new image and how are other schools deploying python for coding lessons are you using a virtual machine, raspberry pi or with the software installed or locally on the PC. Just thinking about the security. Thanks in advance
