Hi all, Just wondered if anyone has come across this issue before? We currently use Exec 2012 to backup our servers and we seem to be having an issue when incremental/differential backups are taken. (Physical Server backups are working perfect) We have a virtual machine and when the full backup is taken its backs up everything like it should however when it does an incremental/differential backup (Tried both) it seems to have the same file size as the full backup. I have checked the physical machine which holds the virtual machines and it has the agent for windows installed. Myself and my college can't seem to figure out how to solve it... Any help apprenticed.

Hello everyone, I have recently started to provide support to a small secondary school. They have a Server 2019 VM running on ESX and it's just started to Blue Screen. The VM is running the school's RD Gateway. The BSODs are either SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION or ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY and it also shows NTFS.sys. Has anyone else come across this before and if so, how did you go about resolving it? Many thanks in advance.

Hi I wanted to trial out the new version of VM workstation 7. I currnetly have VM's configured on version 6.5 and was hoping I could have both versions on my laptop but it wont let me. Has anyone tried version 7 and if you have existing VM's, will they work on the latest version? Thanks

Hi I want some advice. I currently am taking some exams for my Microsoft server course. but I've been hearing about Virtual PC's hosted in the cloud does any of you know a good place where i can install a few virtual servers that i can install in the cloud and practice for my exams? I don't want to be bound by my PC. would be an advantage to log in from any where and access the servers. Thanks

If one has a current active OVS agreement which covers Windows OS...is one then allowed to run Windows Virtual Machines on desktops also (using VirtualBox for example...for a coding environment)? If not, how does one go about ensuring compliance? Thank you for your wisdomousness!

On one of our iMacs I'm getting an error when trying to logon to Workgroup Manager - an error of type- 14473 occurred, and then I can't log on. On the same machine I've got an error on my virtual machine (Windows 7) which I'm trying to install a printer by Desktop Authority, and also run sims on. The error is when mapping the S: drive at logon - shows 'unknown error 67 67' and also fails to update the printer assigned, with an error downloading the driver (Using Desktop Authority to map those on the Windows Network) I've trawled the Mac forums, not had any joy... If you could brighten up my dreary Wednesday by shedding a little light on this I'd be very grateful! Thanks in advance.

Now that the final release of Windows XP mode and Windows Virtual PC is here, I can begin to think about migrating up our music tech PCs - many of which are still on XP as the head of music is too tight to pay for the new (vista-compatible) versions of software they run. I installed Windows Virtual PC and the default XP mode image last night - though instead of having to install all our music tech applications from scratch into that default image, I wondered if I could boot the virtual machine from our WDS server and install the XP SP3 image we already have to make deployment even easier. While the Virtual PC will boot happily from WDS and launch into the installation boot image, it doesn't seem to want to display the XP image we have readily available on the server. I can see the three Windows 7 images I have on there (staff, student and a vanilla Enterprise image) but the VM stubbornly ignores the Windows XP one - won't even display it to choose it - yet when I boot into the installation boot image on physical machines around the network, I can see it and select it! Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I suspect I'm having a bit of a moment and missing something really obvious, but the mind is blank as to a possible cause right now! Ta in advance!

Hello all, I'm hoping someone can help me out. To cut a long story short, I need to restore our virtual SCCM server. It's clustered and has 2 disks. One for the OS which is 60GB and the data which is 600GB. I had a backup which I had taken a week before by shutting down the role and manually copying the entire SCCM folder from within Cluster Storage to a NAS (export didn't work) I'll be honest, I can't remember if I shut the role down from Hyper-V or Failover Cluster Manager, I know now it should have been the latter. I'm new to Failover Clusters. I detached both disk 1 and disk 2 from the virtual machine settings and re-attached them both with the backups. The role boots fine, I can log on with a domain account but I don't see disk 2 mapped as the 'X' drive. In Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management - I can see disk 2 but it tells me it needs initialising. If I go through this process, I have to select either MBR or GPT and then it wants to format the disk. I have tried deleting everything within ClusterStorage\SCCM but it won't let me delete certain files, I presume because it's clustered. I have tried manually copying these 2 disks multiple times, tried different drive attachment numbers but I just can't get it to map that X drive in Windows. I'm pretty sure the C drive was location 0, DVD drive location 1 and the data drive was location 2. I have even tried creating a brand new VM on another server and attaching both drives but still get the same problem. I'm sure I probably haven't gone about restoring it correctly but my thinking is if I have a copy of everything, I should be able to get this drive back? Something I have noticed is that in Failover Cluster Manager, the role has 'SCVMM' at the start of the role name. We do have System Centre Virtual Machine Manager. Is this being managed or integrated in some way to this server? Thanks ever so much in advance to anyone who can help, I really appreciate it. Gary

I'm not sure whether anybody's interested, however I have a few problematic VMs which I don't want to rebuild. Every now and then Windows gets messed up and I have to restore it from a checkpoint. I've created a powershell script which runs on the Hyper-V host as a scheduled task to backup the VMs every morning. This will run whether the VM is powered on or off, but not suspended. function backup([string]$virtualMachine) { # Assemble VM Details $virtualMachineDetails= Get-VM -ComputerName $HyperVHost -Name $VirtualMachine Write-Host "Creating snapshot of $virtualMachine" $dateDisplayFormat = Get-Date -Format yyyy.MM.dd $timeDisplayFormat = Get-Date -Format HH.mm.ss $snapshotName = $virtualMachineDetails.Name + ": " + $dateDisplayFormat + " " + $timeDisplayFormat CheckPoint-VM -ComputerName $HyperVHost -Name $virtualMachine -Snapshotname $snapshotName Write-Host "Snapshot of $virtualMachine complete" } $HyperVHost = "hostname.domain.loc" backup -virtualMachine "VirtualMachineName1" backup -virtualMachine "Some Other Virtual Machine" backup -virtualMachine "And maybe a third" Obviously replace the bottom 4 lines with your own details. Save it as c:\createCheckpoints.ps1 In task scheduler, create a task to run "powershell.exe" and in the arguments add "-File c:\createCheckpoints.ps1". Make sure the task is set to run whether there's a user logged on or not. This will create a checkpoint every time the script runs so I don't forget to. I'm going to add a bit in to get rid of snapshots over * days old, but will stick with manually deleting the, for now.

Hello All, Just wondering whether anyone has encounter the issue i am currently having. I am converting 1 of our servers to a VM and have used the Disk2vhd program, however the program has created 2 vhdx files for the C and E drive. I had a feeling when creating the virtual machine i would have been able to merge the E Drive to the parent © however i can't seem to find the option when doing this. Anyone got any ideas.

We have a requirement to teach programming using Python. The first step has been to use Portable Python from USB memory sticks, which just about works but is clumsy. Raspberry PIs are a bit clunky and mean more kit in our small rooms/stuff to get out/put away. Setting up a virtual machine has been suggested. Can anyone point me to the details of what you have to do to set up a VM to run Python over a school network? i.e. What do you need? What do you do with it?

Hi All, I have just started to virtualize our environment. Our setup consists of the following Dell Ps6100x SAN 2 HOSTS with 4 NICS HP 1GB Switch I have got 7 viirtual machines running and they seem to be running fine. The ISCSI connection on each host uses hardly anything most of the time. However when i create a new VHD or Copy data onto a VM the ISCSI connection seems to max out. Each host has 4 1GB NICS and the SAN has 2x 4 1gb NICS. Currently the hosts are setup with 1 NIC dedicated to Domain traffic and 1 NIC dedicated to ISCSI traffic. Is there anything i can do to stop this from happening or anyway of increasing the ISCSI bandwidth? NIC Teaming or some sort of load balancing ? Cheers Guys

Hi guys, I am about to receive a new Dell T330 16GB - (x4) 600GB SAS 10k RAID 10, so 1.2TB for OS (HyperVisor Type 1) and Data. My idea is install Windows Server 2016, add Hyper-V role (which is Type 1 as far as I know) and create a VM with Windows Server 2016 running as a File Server. This VM will be Backed up on a NAS. This FS will be a Member Server on my domain, it will be my sole VM, I have 2 DCs, AntiVirus and WSUS, running on Server 2008 R2 no virtualized. Am I doing this move right? Thanks.

Just posting to let you all know that the new version of esXpress "4.0" was released about 10 days ago. I posted it on my blog here: VMware Backup – esXpress 4.0 released | Virtualization Spotlight The key change to the release is reliable Change Block Tracking, as of now esXpress is the only virtual backup solution that validates the CBT data for each backup, ensuring data integrity and reliability.
