Hi, I am currently trying to make a change to an Edge flag (Override software rendering list) for a suite of older PC's to fix a display issue with a bit of cloud based software. I am able to make the change manually by going to each machine individually, and going to Edge://flags however I was wondering if there is a way to automate this process, whether this is a script of some sort, or a simple registry change. Can anyone offer any advice or recommendation? Thanks in advance.

Hi All, We have Python installed on our ICT machines (all running Win10 X64). However, with the advent of a new A Level ICT course being taught we have had to install other software that has added to the versions of Python on these systems. Now, when a *.Py file is right clicked, we get at least two and sometimes three "edit with IDLE" options on the context menu. The A Level teacher has asked me to remove the options for all Python versions except 3.4.3. There are at least 25 computers to sort out and I know it's a registry change but I'm hoping there is an easy way to apply the change to all the machines as a blanket fix that will run on all of them whether or not they have the issue. If not I am going to have to logon to each one manually and make the changes. This may not even be the correct forum for this question but I thought I'd try here first as readers may have more specific Python knowledge and I may get a quicker answer TIA Mark P.

All, I have been trying to reduce unneeded internet traffic at our site of late, due to poor speeds on the connection I noted a lot of traffic to Office online help – specifically officeimg.vo.msecnd.net Doing a bit of digging and it seems office 2010 and 2013 connect to this address automatically at startup and download stuff. At our site it was roughly 1 – 1.5 Gig a day! Changing the Office 2010 registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Internet\UseOnlineContent Or Office 2013 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Internet\UseOnlineContent To REG_DWORD value 0 Disables this and frees up that bit more bandwith I’ve pushed this out via Group Policy preferences, but you could just as easily use a login script or modify mandatory profiles. Hello, Ive searched far and wide for a solution to this issue, and have stumbled across similar answers and some very unhelpful ones too. Basically, all of our computers have several media players installed. WMP, WinAmp and VLC. Winamp is currently the default, we would like to change this back to WMP. I know you can go onto a machine individually and reset the file associations or go through the "Set Default Programs and Access" option within control panel. But I am having difficulty trying to work out how to do this in a batch job. I thought of deploying a reg fix through an adm in group policy, but cant for the life of me find where this setting is stored in the registry. I also know that there is no out of the box gpo for this either. Any help/ideas would be much appreciated. This is where i miss having Impero's key/mouse stroke script creator!

Right, found a weird one that can occour when people inpropperly kill a Vista machine with multiple users logged in and have posted here for refference. When it is killed impropperly it can leave a chunk of data in the registry, when this happens it attempts to use rewrite the original registry which it does not have access to do. The key involved is located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\ and will take the form of a network SID with .bak appended to the end. When this is present it will mess up the logon process and cause the user to always logon with a temporary profile. To solve this both the .bak key and the identical SID key if present. You should also check the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\SessionData under each number to make sure that the system has not held sessions for the offending user account, the best idea is to delete each of the numbered keys under here that refference the offending user which should after a reboot resolve the issue.

I am trying to get the option to only restarting when they click the option. I am using AB tutor control and it has restricted the option, but it has left shut down, restart and hibernate. I wondered i there is an option in windows registry or something where it'll only give you the option to restart? I this requires a group policy thing could someone please let me know how it's done, or if anyone has any info on this please reply. Cheers fellow techy's =]

I have multiple registry keys I like to export and append to one .reg file, instead of several .reg files that can be imported back into the registry. hi gurus.... I'm trying to figure out why my reg import command is not working in the script below. When I run the reg import fileName.reg from the DOS it works fine but when included in the script below it does nothing and I cannot find why. Hi I'm trying to set a permission on a registry key for a program that requires to write where the database is held I've been told that REGINI.exe does this, but seems to complex, can some one help me write a simple logon script that will set the USERS group to full permission on a registry key upon computer bootup, i will use this script in a GPO Computer Start up Script I've tried Registry GPO under "Computer\Windows Setting\Security Settings\Registry" and doesn't work, the key is held under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\RisingStars\Assessments" Hope some one can help!

How would I make changed to the registry in a script? Also can I use .reg files to add things to the registry in a scrip. Thanks

Hello - having some fun configuring AppSense on XenDesktop but had a little setback with proxy configurations: We need the user to log on with the Automatically Detect Proxy Settings check box unticked in order to use our proxy - I can't seem to find the ADMx setting in AppSense Environment Manager that will do this. Has anyone else done this? If so, was it done using AppSense or was a registry key change? I've forumed itand returned useful things like the location of connection settings at_ HK_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections but having trouble finding the correct key/hex value to edit - even exporting my local configuration (with the box unticked) and importing it into the mandatory profile required for logging on using AppSense doesn't do the trick. Hi, I have a problem and RM have said that there is no way round it, so here's your challenge!! We have a few notebooks with very small screens and I would like to increase the display font size to large fonts for all users of the notebooks, and then reset the font size back to normal for the user when they log off, so that when they use a normal size screen elsewhere, everything isn't HUGE. I have built a custom workstation type for the notebooks but unfortunately, the registry settings for display fonts is a user registry, not machine - I believe that it is HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\Window Metrics. I have tried making a batch program to be run by the machine at user logon, which uses "regedt32 /s" to change the current user's font; this works but only for system admins, not standard users, owing to software restrictions. I tried making an MSI of the registry changes and then running that at login, but the same thing happens, even when I changed the security on the workstation type to low. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions about how to do this automatically for users, please? I feel that I'm going in circles here and I must be missing something - and there MUST be a way! As you will have gathered, it's a CC3 system, with XP SP2 systems. Thanks, Helen.

Hello, We've deployed Adobe Reader X across our network and it's chucking up a message saying that the file can't be opened because of security issues. I've been reading it's to do with the 'Enable Protected Mode' checkbox. All I want to do is to be able to disable it using a GPO across our network without a fuss (does that exist?!). Any step by step instructions would be gratefully received! Many thanks x

Hello all, I'm looking for a way, probably via a script. to set the office user name to match the users network name at logon. all our pupils are on mandatory profiles so the username field is just a generic SchoolUser for all of them. any suggestions on this would be much appreciated. Cheers

Hi all, I have a logon for a local Windows XP user. This has had a number of registry changes made to restrict or prevent certain actions (prevent access to command prompt, prohibit access to control panel etc). I want to create a second local user, and copy the registry settings from the existing one to the other. Or, to put it another way, I would like to create a second user, by coping the first. I've tried to do it by copying the old user profile to a new user, in Control Panel>System>Advanced>User Profiles but this doesn't seem to copy all the registry settings. Is there another way to do this? By the way, this is a standalone Windows XP (SP3) machine, with no network / internet connections. Thanks in advance for any help,

I am looking to make a batch file that will prompt for 2 values and then insert those 2 different values (both numbers) into 2 existing registry values. A quick googling returned a lot of confusing scenarios. Is this possible?
