Hi all, Back in the day I setup our 3 trust schools as separate G Suite's, more fool me! They wanted to all be kept seperate at the time but as time has gone on I see little sense in keeping it this way, how easy is it to merge all these in to a single G Suite? As it stands we have Secondary (Trust domain name is setup as a secondary), Primary 1 and Primary 2. Ideally i should have Trust Domain G Suite and all others set as secondary domains? Is this going to be a complete and utter pain in the rear? Thanks all

Hello Everyone, We are currently in the process of having a brand new 160 place special school built for us. This will see us build a brand new network as we currently piggy back of a secondary school we are sharing a site with running a RM CC4 network. We have our own SIMS server but and O365 but as this will be a completely new network we are exploring all our options particularly moving towards cloud. We have explored going the Google route etc but want to know if you had the opportunity to have a brand new from the ground up network what would you do. We have already explored a number of local schools who have said Google intrigues them but we want to make informed decisions so are looking at everything from Hybrid Cloud to Google maybe even changing MIS. Happy to have phone calls arranged etc.

Good morning We've been using both Office 365 and GSuite (Google Classroom and Drive mainly) for about 5 years with login synced using AD > Azure/O365 > G Suite. We are moving all of our O365 email over to the Welsh Government Hwb system which is fine and comes with its own sync with Google, but so that staff can retain access to archived content on Google I'd like to remove the AD Sync and I can manage their passwords manually if needed. I'm worried that if I simply remove the AD > Azure/O365 > G Suite then all of my users will be lost and obviously dont want this. I'm hoping by removing this setting in Azure then Google will juse exist with the current users and data. I've been searching but cant find anything to tell me what migth happen, does anyone have any experience of this? Thanks Ieuan

Hi all, Just after some advice, we have a wireless network configured at user level for BYOD devices what I would like to do is block this wireless network for a certain OU Using the global network config i have added the SSID to the blocked SSID list and can see this being applied at device level to the chromebook, unfortunatley (I believe due to policy overrides) the user policy for the network is applied and the SSID can be connected to on a device in the OU where the blocked SSID is being applied. https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/9037717?hl=en details the order of policy settings being applied. I can see on the chromebook the policy for the blocked ssid is set as "Source = Cloud, Applies to = Device, Level = Mandatory" When the settings are exported as a JSON and viewed I can also see the user level network being applied as well. Source = Cloud, Applies to = User, Level = Mandatory. My order of policy application is set as default (which is Machine > machine cloud > OS user > Chrome profile) How can I make my device level SSID blocking over ride the user setting? From my understanding anything set at device level shouldn't be overwritten by the user policies? Just for testing purposes I added my mobile hotspot SSID to the blocked list and that worked but this was not a managed network set at user level. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Edit: Ive now tested my SSID connecting from the login screen where no user policies are being applied so only device level setting should be set at this level, it still lets me connect to the blacklisted SSID even though its no longer a "Managed" network, the blocking of SSID is done via string to Hex and ive reversed the hex i can see in the JSON and it converts back to the correct SSID. Oddly even though blocked SSID setting is device only it only applies once a user is logged in, my hotspot only gets blocked when a user logs in, my needed blocked SSID still does not get blocked.

Hello all! We are about to leave RealSmart for a much snazzier new website provider, however for the last 4 years or so I have relied on RealSmart's "Smartsync" feature, that automatically creates Google Accounts for Pupils via it's link to ScholarPack. My question is, how do you guys automatically create Google accounts for your pupils? The only option I have found so far is Wizkids Edulife which is GSuite, MIS and AD sync tool £1250 / year & £500 set up fee. This seems rather pricey, as all I need is the gsuite sync tool. Any suggestions please? Thanks all! - Al

I am having real problems synching our AD changes to GSuite. We have both Google Cloud Directory Sync and GSuite Password Sync installed as per requirements. The only way I've gotten it to work at the moment is as follows: 1. Log into pupil Google account 2. Log into pupil AD account 3. Change pupil AD password which then updates the GSuite password If I do it any other way, the password changes do not sync. I really do not want to manually log into 700 GSuite accounts - what am I doing wrong/how do you do it? FYI we are using the standard free version of GSuite for EDU with our LAN using Server 2012/2016/2019 with Windows 10 clients.

Hi everyone, We are looking at trialing GSuite for our IT Teachers. Just before the holiday I'd created a GSuite admin account, verified it against one of our domain names and created a few test users. Upon creating my 11th account, I got a little popup telling me that I'd reached my 10 license limit. (It looks as though I'd signed up to a trial of a paid version instead.) Running through some of the help articles, they mentioned it would be possible to downgrade my account if I was within the 14 day trial. I'm outside the 14 day trial. Looking into it further, it does seem you can sign up for a free GSuite for non-profit organisations (these include schools). Source: https://www.google.com/nonprofits Q: Is this where I should have been looking all along? Q: If so, should I attempt to cancel my original account and create one here? (I did see in the notes that the original free GSuite Legacy basic wasn't being offered to new customers after 2012...) Thanks!

Has anyone got any suggestions for blocking pupils from emailing groups? I know you can setup message restrictions but this would involve maintaining a list of approved people pupils can send to. Group posting permissions aren't helpful either. The only thing I can think of is to use content compliance in the admin console and setup expressions so that the Pupil OU has a rule applied which says that any emails going to a particular address are blocked. Thanks Simon

Hi, We have a roaming set of Chromebooks which classes book out throughout the day. All students login with their own username and password. Whenever a student signs in they are presented with the ChromeOS 'Howdy' screen which invites them on the 'Tour' of the OS. Is there a way to disable this in Google Admin? Many thanks -Luke

Hi everyone-- We’d like to invite EduGeek members to learn, connect and share with Google for Education at the Back to School Summit (event site: https://goo.gl/VYV5gS) Come along to this free one day training event featuring a jam-packed day of learning across four different strands of hands-on training delivered by educators, for educators, over five hours. Suitable for beginners to advanced users, you'll also benefit from the open surgery strand where you can ask questions and get answers from the UK's leading Google experts. You'll leave the day empowered to use G Suite meaningfully with your students. Before you head home, why not stick around for networking drinks to meet other attendees and trainers from the day? Due to the limited number of places at this event, only staff working in educational institutions may attend. We may limit attendees to a maximum of two per organisation. You'll hear back within a week to confirm your place. To avoid disappointment, please don't book travel until your place is confirmed. Kind regards, James

Hi all, I hope everyone is ok. Thought I would ask on here, as I am sure someone can provide some feedback etc. I have really been exploring GCPW at my school recently and.... I really like it. They are a google school with about 300+ 1:1 chromebooks for the students. The staff use windows devices but mainly use Google Drive for documents rather than saving anything on the server. I am looking to explore the options that Windows Device Management (G-suite console) could bring with managing these last few windows devices. On our fundamentals licensing we don't have access to any of this (Only GCPW) but long term, I would like to think I could manage these devices through GCPW and WDM too, all from the google admin console. This would allow us to remove on-prem hardware. I suppose my real question is pricing... would anyone mind sharing how much they paid for their upgraded licensing to either standard or plus? I have had a rough look around and it seems that for standard it is about £2 per student... but with every four licenses you get a free staff license. I'm not sure how much persuading our school would need to purchase this licensing, as currently they are on a free plan, and only pay for device upgrade licenses. But I do think the benefits it would bring to the school are worth it for the long run. TIA.

Hi All, I've been wanting to start the google Associate Certification for some time but I have no idea where to enrol or officially start the certification course! So simple question, can someone point me in the right direction please! And is there any cost? If there is I'll have to provide info to our finance dept. Cheers, Jamie C

Evening all, Our Finance team are currently using a Google Group setup as a collaborative inbox. This was implemented a few years ago when we moved to G Suite but we now have a completely different team (3 of them including the Business Manager, with scope for it becoming 4) running the show. They don't find it particularly easy to use, intuitive or helpful and they're finding that emails are being missed. I have to say, I do kind of agree them them - groups feels very much like an after thought that Google doesn't seem to be doing much with. I've been asked to explore options for moving away from this and the way I see it is we have three options: - They get used to it - Move them to a regular inbox with delegated access, using labels to track who's working on what (and look at the feasibility of migrating the email content) - Use a service like Hiver, Drag or Front Just wondering how other G Suite schools manage collaborative inboxes? Particularly for finance teams! Of course the cheaper the better but I'm open to suggestions that people have found work well.

Hi, We are looking at moving to Google Chromebooks for pupils and using Google Classroom and G-Suite. Has anyone had experience of a large deployment or Chromebooks and the impact on Broadband connectivity. We have recently upgraded our wireless and we are now using Unify UAP-AC-Pro and they seem to be performing great. We are also looking at moving some of the staff shared areas up to Google Team drives to allow access at home. Thanks Chris

Hi Trying to find out if google takeout is GDPR complaint? Have searched but can't find anything definitive!

Our school is currently moving over to GSuite and as part of that we've moved all students from using Outlook to using GMail and are also encouraging them to use Google Apps on our CC4 Windows 7 PCs instead of Office etc. Historically we have blocked all chrome:// urls through the student user group policy, however we have now made an exception for chrome://print. We've verified that this works with a student test account which uses the same group policy as students but we are still getting students saying they cannot do so as it is blocked. Is there anything I'm missing that would be preventing them from printing? (I realise this may not even be a problem with CC4 but I thought it would be worth posting here first before I do so elsewhere!)

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone has fully migrated their schools to Google....? I work in a large primary school with a very "hybrid" set up. The students use Chromebooks, and some of the staff/teachers do to. However, there is still an on-prem DC (that is tired) managing a few windows laptops hosting services such, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Printing, and file shares too. My thoughts are to do the following... - Deploy the google drive client on remaining windows devices to sync users files to the workspace - Use papercut mobility print for printing services - Host DNS, and DHCP on firewall. - Use something like Synology Active Backup for workspace, pointing to a NAS off/on site. - They already use Arbor for their MIS so no issues there. - Invest in a redundant FTTC/5G connection in the event of a main line issue. - Senso.Cloud for safeguarding monitoring, and possibly Securly for extra filtering. - Licensing is perpetual, so would be looking at roughly £30 per device - Training provided to staff/students on how to use the Google Workspace apps Please let me know if I have missed anything, as I am sure I have! I am more interested to see if any schools have actually succeeded in migrating fully to Google? How have staff found it? Has there been any software issues? is it even possible? haha!

I am looking to sign up our school to G Suite for Education. I have previously been a G Suite admin so am familiar on how it works / features / administration, however I have not set it up from scratch before so I'm looking for some advice on the setup procedure before I follow the sign up process. I would like to have a google account created for every AD account we currently have and every future account. We have a 100% windows environment at the moment and we use 365 for email. My understanding is that there is a sync tool to install on the DC which will create a google account for every windows account and sync any account/password changes. We already own a domain name that is only used for our website and is not linked to the domain or 365 and I would like to use this as the Google Domain. I've partly followed the signup process through and it gives me the option to use an existing domain, but I'm unsure how I would link the domain to G Suite. So my main concerns are: How to link the domain to G Suite - I assume some DNS settings will need changing? Is it possible to keep using this domain name for the website as well as G Suite? Does 365 need to be involved in any way? Many thanks in advance!

We are looking at moving our primary school to Google for Education. We are currently at the planning stages. What are you experiences with Whiteboards. At the moment we have a mixture of Smartboards and Clevertouch boards with built in Android. Have any of your schools replaced Windows devices for teaches with Chromebooks? Does anyone know of any tools for migrating user data from a local Windows Server to a users G Drive? Thanks

Morning all, Have a few users reporting that when signed into Chrome with their school email address they are unable to print through "Chrome's Print Management" as they see error "The selected printer is not available or not installed correctly, check your printer or try selecting another" This is only an issue when they are signed into Chrome, if they sign out of Chrome no issue and they can print just fine. This effects various versions of Windows and Chrome. Had a poke through G Suite and couldn't see any settings for this, was considering using GPO to force system print but figured why not ask on Edugeek just in case

I know that Office 365 has free built in email encryption and I can't find that Google has (only between googles servers or those it trusts). The only thing I can find for Google is G Suite Message Encryption (GAME) which costs. I just found this extension, CryptUp, on the Chrome store, it says it uses the PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) standard. Is this ok for meeting the latest security requirements if sending an email that might contain details of a child? Has anyone else used this that is using Gsuite for Education? https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cryptup-encrypt-gmail-wit/bnjglocicdkmhmoohhfkfkbbkejdhdgc
