I ordered some monitors from stone and asked they hold the delivery until the 26th. We are so out of space here I couldn't take delivery ahead of time. I started the hardware refresh in our primary I.T. Suite as I no longer get support in the half term. We get all old PCs out, new cables and PCs in and wait for the monitors.....and wait.. and wait.. And even having over a weeks notice they fail to deliver (from 3 hours away!) They tell me at the end of my work day... Damn well the 27th I guess, well here I am the day is about to finish, my technician isn't here tomorrow and still no monitors... I should have my head checked to expect a supplier would give to figs about a customer after they get the order! I'm disappointed in myself for expecting anything other than a mess around. Now I cancelled more lessons getting from the head, the staff and a parent! yay! And I can try and lug and install them myself tomorrow when it's only me in! tldr: I asked for monitors on a certain day they didn't make it, I'm inconvenienced, I feel stupid.

I'm fed up with the useless favourites bar prompt for every user on every PC asking you to set up the bar and eating up page space. All users ignore the thing! I'd setup the (computer setting?!?) to disable the favourites bar it states that the bar will be hidden and users can't change it...Great but it doesn't work. I've confirmed with a GPO results that the GPO is configured and set on the target PC but new users still get the promp and can change the settings.... ideas?

Hi, I finally solved this issue and though id share it with edugeek community. I had a problem where my windows updates would only install 1 by 1 , for ex. you would have 15 updates. and after first one the rest fails. Windows came up with error code "WindowsUpdate 80070718" . And there isnt much info anywhere on net about it at all. I found out that the guy who looked after school before me enabled disk quotas trough group policy on the default domain policy and set it to only 280mb(Who configures the default domain policy right?) Computerconfiguration>admintemplates>sytem>diskquotas This didnt affect anything apart from windows updates strangely enough. Hope that if it happens to any of you in future that this is of some help.

Hi Nick, I have installed version 7.8 this morning and have been having a play with the My Files - it is looking good, much better than the legacy browsers. Anyway, I have found that certain files seem to fail on upload. These files are allowed file types, things such as flv's and pdf's - though I don't think there is any relation to the type of file. I was wondering if it were due to the size of the files as I have noticed it with 4mb pdf's and 100mb flv's, but, we do have the following in our web.config file that should stop this? I noticed that Firebug is reporting the following request as a 404 response: "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - https://domain.com/HAP/api/myfiles-upload/L/" Any ideas? On an unrelated note, if I was to make a suggestion, would it be possible for the My Drives on the left to be initially expanded to show the mapped drives?

You know that problem that Vista and then 7 had when if you had both redirected folders and offline file sync enabled it could take forever to logon. That issue that they fixed in Vista, then in 7. Weeelllll, you'll never guess what Windows 8 does They really need to fire Faily McFailson from MS and fix their bugs propperly rather than embedding the same stupid faults in each new version so they have something to do.

Have been following Progresso's development quite closely. Were due to go live a couple of times, saw data in their transition environment earlier in the year and we panicked it was so bad! We pulled the plug on our migration and it is currently TBC as far as we're concerned. Had a call today from our Serco rep to tell us that they are not going to migrate any more schools over to Progresso (from Facility) this year because there have been so many problems. Talking to a colleague via SSAT and they've told me the same story and that they are considering dropping Serco completely and going to Aspen or Integris. Can anyone else share good or bad stories of their Progresso migrations (or build up to failed ones), that could help us and others make a considered decision with all of the info please? Thanks Simon

Obligatory rhetorical questions: How? Why?

I am having real problems synching our AD changes to GSuite. We have both Google Cloud Directory Sync and GSuite Password Sync installed as per requirements. The only way I've gotten it to work at the moment is as follows: 1. Log into pupil Google account 2. Log into pupil AD account 3. Change pupil AD password which then updates the GSuite password If I do it any other way, the password changes do not sync. I really do not want to manually log into 700 GSuite accounts - what am I doing wrong/how do you do it? FYI we are using the standard free version of GSuite for EDU with our LAN using Server 2012/2016/2019 with Windows 10 clients.

Ok in a different thread I was, am having trouble with my Vcentre server so I gave up and now want technical support from VMware... Yay! After logging in and trying to discern what magical combo of clicks will elicit a helpdesk button or number. I get to a page support page that shows nothing but has an KB article telling me how to troubleshoot the reasons why you have no supportable products listed. (rather than showing your product and saying unsupported next to it, it shows no products, clear thanks.) Ok now I'm KBing my way through the technical support guide to why technical support doesn't work..... 1 I do have support, I'm looking at t he receipt till next year, 2 I'm the super user and the account numbers are the same. 3 buy more technical support??!?! Great now I can't remediate VMware technical support is there a technical support for the technical support of course not. I can BUY technical support....So I can buy a technical support query to fix my technical support issues I've paid for... This is fantastic, great job VMware, just Great.

Hi, has anyone come across the issue of backing up a group policy from GPMC? The error i am recieving is that i am using an incorrect user name and password??? But i am a domain admin account, the permissions look all ok. I have also tried it via Powershell with no success.

Students punished for teacher's topless photo In an obviously 'completely' education related move this school got Apple gear and it was obviously used for education, just not in the topics they were expecting. For 'T&L' I'm sure the teacher managed to sync her iPhone to the classroom iPad, this helpfully included a topless photo of herself. The article fails to mention whether the photo was worth viewing though, A major oversight I thought

Looks like Seagate have admitted to messing up the firmware on a whole batch of their new drives causing the drives to stop showing the data to the OS and/or lockup for short periods of time while reading files at low speed. Complaints flood Seagate over hard drive problems Barracuda 7200.11 DiamondMax 22 Barracuda ES.2 SATA They have created a firmware upgrade that should fix the problem but you must email them to get a hold of it. Seagate Knowledge Base <- downloads at the bottom of the page I guess a slight increase in read speed was not the only thing that they got from their purchase of Maxtor. Happily I just brought an affected model of drive a month ago so I'v got to check that out at some point. If anyone else has got drives from these product families it would probably be a good plan to check them. EDIT: Looks like they are freely avalible to download now but have not been out for long so could still be buggy. I'm really just grumbling but in 2021 I bought 32 Acer NITRO XV2 monitors. In the last 2 months I've had (so 18 months old) 6 fail on me some are developing black lines others are outright loosing their picture and will not display. The return process is via a form on the Acer website is buggy and sometimes the turn around is 2 months to get a repair, now they claim they are out of warranty. Just annoyed at myself for not sticking to form and buying a business class monitor. btw stock for monitors and prices in 2021 were weird at the time and more basic VA or IPS monitors (with height adjust) were quite expensive. So the cost (£133 ea) and time availability of these justified the purchase.

I have been reasonably quiet about this but I thought I should post it for informative purposes. The NZ MoE has in their limitless stupidity decided to take all the schools pay rolls stuff off the NZ company that was managing it fine and invested millions and years in some dirty cloud application built by a dodgey Australian company that even the Australian's won't use. I imagine that several of the MoE people ended up with new golf clubs or cars to make that happen. At any rate after four to five years of development and a trial run where they admitted to not listening to any of the feedback they launched it. After several months of it actually running their 'software' is still managing to pay people in lots of minutes instead of hours, ie. 7 minutes a day or days instead of hours. This epic mess up is spectacular from a software point of view in that they must have actually written people's jobs into the software in order to stuff up this badly. There are situations where reliving teachers are being paied $10k for a days work and cleaners are being paid $3.50 for a week. That is if they pay them at all, each week there can be 20% or more of the staff of each and every school that is paid wrongly or not at all. Couple this with hour wait times to call their support desk to get things sorted and their habit of storing things like sick leave in two separate places. Problem reports that get sent from CMS to CMS to the point that you get up to five different case numbers which is the only information they provide as to what it is in relation to. They also continuously loose or simply don't read email and will reply to an email (with the documents still attached) requesting those same documents. Finding a single fault with those documents, printing them out and posting them back six weeks later with a post-it note on it requesting a slightly different number. It is stunningly epicly bad and out idiot government is stuck in a ten year contract with these dropkicks. They have been largely panned in the NZ media but I think they actually need to be shamed in the international media to actually do something, this farce has been on going for more than three months.
