Hi, we are having an issue with one of our domain controllers. The replication from it and all others has stopped. On running portqry tool checking port 389, we find that it reports the other DC's as listening, but fails to return an LDAP query, saying the server is unavailable. If we do the same in reverse, the other DC's can see and query the problem DC fine. We have checked our firewall and cannot see any traffic being blocked between the two servers. Any ideas would be very welcome.

Hi all, Got a strange one here hopefully someone can shed some light on please Veeam B&R backing up from VMWare to NAS repositories. I'm moving my Veeam B&R (v9.5.0.823) to another server. I've originally had this installed on a VMWare vCenter server and recently read that isn't a good idea. I see why thinking about it, but it's worked for a couple of years with no bother. I've created a new Server 2016 VM, fresh full installation of Veeam B&R. Restored a fresh configuration backup from the old server using the 'migrate' option in the import. The import went fine. All my hosts, repositories and jobs are present. I've re-scanned all repositories and they pass fine. I've re-scanned the local backup proxy and it passes fine. However when I run any job I get the error: 'Unable to allocate processing resources. Error: All backup proxies are offline or outdated' Then the proxy becomes unavailable and requires re-scanning to bring it back, which it does successfully. To troubleshoot: I created a new repository A new backup job Same proxy But I still get the error. The only jobs that are working are physical machines backing up into a B&R repository from Veeam Endpoint Backup. Veeam support are stumped so far. So am I Has anyone come across this before ?? Cheers in advance EDIT: Adding a new proxy on another VM seems to work. Why can't it use itself as the proxy?

Hi All I'm having few issues getting sysvol to replicate after I dcpromo a server 2008 machine into a 2003 domain, but having no problems with replication if I dcpromo another 2003 machine into the domain. I have noticed that the link folders within Sysvol (2008 machine) are incorrect, and folder linking path is incorrect, but 2003 is spot on. I've changed the paths using HardLinkShellExt_win32.exe, to rectify the link folder problem, but still no replication..... help:confused:, Any idea's? Thanks in advance

Morning all Trying to set up a few printers to deploy through group policy and ran into a problem. The printers will not deploy for love nor money, I've sorted point & print etc Ran through gpresult and noticed it's deploying from the secondary DC, which is fine however, when checking the policy settings on the 2ndary, the 'deployed printers' tab just literally isn't there. I'm wondering if it could be a sysvol replication issue, though there is nothing in the event logs and everything else seems to be fine. Main DC is server 19, secondary server 2012r2 Really has me stumped, just wondered if anyone has ran into similar issues or has any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I was wondering if one (or a few) of you could answer a couple of questions about Veeam. We have 2x Hyper-V hosts and 10 VM's to back up, 5 on each host replicated on to the other. 1) Could I just backup one server (10 VM's 5 online, 5 offline), and thus buy Veeam licencing for one Host (2 licences for two CPU's), or is there an issue or limitations to doing this? 2) How do you rate Veeam's Replication compared to Hyper-V Replication, we currently just replicated from one local server to another for failover, doesn't have to be automatic, just reliable. We also may extend the replication at some point to a third server. 3) How do you guys run the Backup jobs? Currently I have two separate jobs, one full backup to a NAS at far end of school, and a separate full job that backs up to a set of external drives which are taken off site. (so essentially D2D & D2D not D2D2D) Any help or pointers would greatly received.

Hi all! In really basic terms, step by step if possible, could you help me to add an extra 2003 server to our existing 2003 domain to be used as a backup server / replication server? I would be very grateful Also- roughly how long it would take as I am on a tight schedule and would be interested to know if I could do it in time. Warmest Wishes, Jay xxx

I'm having problems setting up my storage node and getting the replication working so that the master node copies all of its stored images across. I'm running ubuntu 9.10 server on the node and 9.04 desktop on the main system. I've got a feeling it's something to do with the MySQL on the main server having a root password but I'm no good with MySQL (this is the first time I've had to deal with it in fact). The fogreplicator.log on the main machine keeps reporting: Failed to connect to database server, will try again in next iteration. This is my config.php from the node: define( "UPDSENDERPATH", "/usr/local/sbin/udp-sender" ); define( "MULTICASTLOGPATH", "/opt/fog/log/multicast.log" ); define( "MULTICASTDEVICEOUTPUT", "/dev/tty2" ); define( "MULTICASTSLEEPTIME", 10 ); define( "MULTICASTINTERFACE", "eth0" ); define( "UDPSENDER_MAXWAIT", null ); define( "MYSQL_HOST", "172.30.249.200" ); define( "MYSQL_DATABASE", "fog" ); define( "MYSQL_USERNAME", "fogstorage" ); define( "MYSQL_PASSWORD", "31c09b" ); define( "LOGMAXSIZE", "1000000" ); define( "REPLICATORLOGPATH", "/opt/fog/log/fogreplicator.log" ); define( "REPLICATORDEVICEOUTPUT", "/dev/tty3" ); define( "REPLICATORSLEEPTIME", 600 ); define( "REPLICATORIFCONFIG", "/sbin/ifconfig" ); define( "SCHEDULERLOGPATH", "/opt/fog/log/fogscheduler.log" ); define( "SCHEDULERDEVICEOUTPUT", "/dev/tty4" ); define( "SCHEDULERWEBROOT", "/var/www/fog" ); define( "SCHEDULERSLEEPTIME", 60 ); ?> If anybody can give me a pointer with this I'd be really grateful. Anything else needed to progress, let me know and I'll post any log files or config files I have. Thanks:o

We’ve decided to move away from our LEA provided VLE for various reasons, and boldly go forward and create our own. We’ve chosen Moodle for this purpose as it offers us a great deal of flexibility to really tailor the system to our specific needs. Our setup is as follows: Internally we are running a well specified HP server with Windows server 2003 r2. We use Xampp which runs both Apache and MySQL services. Our Moodle MySQL database is setup and managed via phpMyAdmin. Externally we rent a managed webserver from United Hosting. It’s running CentOS which is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. They support Moodle and the associated services and scripts required – It’s running the LAMP environment (Apache, MySQL and PHP) UK Dedicated Server Management Overview - Included Server Management - Initial Server Setup - Ongoing Dedicated Server Maintenance - Server Security and Performance Tweaks Gives an overview of what their managed service provides. After a little troubleshooting which boiled down to correcting the variables in the hosted config.php file, we successfully migrated our internal Moodle data to the hosted system and from that perspective, it’s all functioning as expected. Now, this is where it gets interesting.. At the moment, our web based Moodle is sitting idle, in maintenance mode ready for when we are in a position to fully use it. We’re currently running with our internal system and looking forward to offering staff and pupils online access from home. Users will access our internal moodle via a shortcut to the server. From home, via a web address. These of course point to two separate systems. We require two way real time (or as close as possible) synchronisation/replication between our two moodle servers. In additional to the realtime MySQL database replication we also need to ensure relevant moodle files (moodledata and htdocs\moodle) are also kept in sync. If a pupil uploads some homework onto the hosted web version, we need that to also show on our internal system (and vice versa). We’ve gone with this setup as it provides great internal access speeds, pupil/staff home access over the web, redundancy and resilience. The support we are receiving from our hosting company is very good but I’d like to gain additional perspective, ideas and help on this technical challenge. It’s a very new area for us and I would really appreciate some advice, software suggestions etc as to how to achieve this. I’d be very keen to hear from people who are running a similar setup and have experience in this area, are thinking of moving in this direction or just have a good idea. In turn, when we are successfully running our system I would be very happy to share my experiences, provide advice and lessons learned. Thank you all in advance!

In addition to our backup routine we're planning to setup an additional file server (Windows 2003 R2) to replicate our user and departmental data to. The aim is to provide a fast recovery in the event of a server failure. I was planning to use Windows replication, but the solution from ViceVersa (ViceVersa Software: File Synchronization, File Replication, Windows Backup Software) seems to offer everything we could need at a very good price. Does anyone else use/used it? Robocopy may also be an option. Any advice welcome! Thanks for taking the time to read and reply.

Hi, this week we've had workstations losing their trust with the domain, some multiple times a day. I looked in the Event Viewer on our 3 domain controllers and there were lots of errors reported by the win2003 server, replication errors. Event Type: Warning Event Source: NtFrs Event Category: None Event ID: 13508 Date: 18/07/2015 Time: 14:23:17 User: N/A Computer: DC Description: The File Replication Service is having trouble enabling replication from PDC to DC for c:\windows\sysvol\domain using the DNS name pdc.domain.town.sch.uk. FRS will keep retrying. Following are some of the reasons you would see this warning. [1] FRS can not correctly resolve the DNS name PDC.domain.town.sch.uk from this computer. [2] FRS is not running on name.domain.town.sch.uk. [3] The topology information in the Active Directory for this replica has not yet replicated to all the Domain Controllers. This event log message will appear once per connection, After the problem is fixed you will see another event log message indicating that the connection has been established. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Data: 0000: 21 07 00 00 !... ALSO Event Type: Error Event Source: NTDS Replication Event Category: Replication Event ID: 1864 Date: 20/07/2015 Time: 15:40:35 User: NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON Computer: DC Description: This is the replication status for the following directory partition on the local domain controller. Directory partition: DC=ForestDnsZones,DC=domain,DC=town,DC=sch,DC=uk The local domain controller has not recently received replication information from a number of domain controllers. The count of domain controllers is shown, divided into the following intervals. More than 24 hours: 2 More than a week: 2 More than one month: 2 More than two months: 2 More than a tombstone lifetime: 0 Tombstone lifetime (days): 180 Domain controllers that do not replicate in a timely manner may encounter errors. It may miss password changes and be unable to authenticate. A DC that has not replicated in a tombstone lifetime may have missed the deletion of some objects, and may be automatically blocked from future replication until it is reconciled. To identify the domain controllers by name, install the support tools included on the installation CD and run dcdiag.exe. You can also use the support tool repadmin.exe to display the replication latencies of the domain controllers in the forest. The command is "repadmin /showvector /latency ". For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. It was always my intention to demote our Win2003 server today so that is what I did. I tried to run dcpromo but it errored with a logon failure, so I ran dcpromo /forceremove then removed entries in AD Comp & User and AD Sites & Services. Removed the NS from DNS then ran dcdiag.exe everything passed except for:- Starting test: SystemLog A warning event occurred. Hi all, Just setting up VM replication in Veeam to a second host - three mission critical production servers - a DC, MIS server and print/management server. This is for the event of the primary host going bang --> fire up the replica VM --> all good . I'm wondering how to schedule the replication process. I already run two separate Veeam backup jobs per night of all my production VM's, and an extra (third) one of the MIS server --> I could restore these backups in an emergency but it would take time hence the replication. I'm thinking once once per week. How would you do it ? Cheers in advance

I've got MySQL master-master replication setup fine on two servers. I was wondering if theres a solution to this, if one server goes down it ends up out of sync with the other server. Is there any way automatically on startup for it to try and get up to date with the other server. I know i could do that manually but it would be time consuming and ideally i would like it to be automated. Thanks Jack
