Hello, We migrated our emails from Exchange 2003 to Office 365 last year and everything was running fine whilst our old exchange server was still running. Students and staff passwords were being synchronised from local AD so they only had one password to manage and everyone was happy! Recently we have removed our old exchange server from the network and whilst the bulk of our users have not even noticed, all of our Year 7 pupils are now being asked to change their passwords on O365 independently from AD. This has resulted in a lot of confusion, particularly as it's the younger students being requested to do this. I have checked their users in the Admin section of 365 and it says "Synced with Active Directory" but nevertheless it insists that their passwords are not synced. I have also checked the sync settings on dirsync and upgraded to the latest version and still it doesn't work. Has anyone else experienced this? I could really do with some help as I had very little to do with the migration and have had no training, yet I am now the most senior person employed now and it's left to me to sort out.

When a teacher/student logs into an machine all files and folders are deleted. These are not only deleted from the machine but delete from the server aswell. We think it may be something to do with offline files synchronizing files the wrong way round. We have even tried to replicate the issue but it seems to be impossible. We have manually had to recover all data using shadow copy (This is stored on a NAS) We have been advised that it could be a virus so we are doing a full scan on our file server. Please can anyone advise?

Hi I need a little help and advice. We have some networked fizzbooks for our students (Primary School). I want the children to be able to take them home, log on, do their work, save it, log off bring them in to school and when they log on to the network all the work they did on the laptop is synchronised with the school server... All the users have the same logon username and password. Is there a way for the children to be able to log onto the fizzbook under the school domain, at home, even when the domain isn't available? Hope this makes sense! Jay

It is bit long but maybe, just maybe someone knows the answer. I am new learning IT technician in big primary school. This is my 3rd wee on the job. Previous guy was much more knowledgeable then myself and build whole network with help of support company. I am now trying not to ruin what he has done and build on it. We are still on Windows 2008 server and windows 7 desktop with RM management. I have never used RM so it’s all new to me. Problem I have is with a user. PC gave up the ghost. I have taken it away and established that HDD is dead. Found spare PC, rebuild it following instructions from my support guy and was happy with it. Until… I logged user in and that’s when problems started. They couldn’t use outlook. Error we were getting was that outlook can’t connect to the Exchange server. After few hours of trying find the issue I gave up and rebuild it again. No luck. This is what happens when user logs in: - All mappings are fine - Users’ desktop not coming through - User can’t see all programs. There are just few random programs like 2simple and few others, no Office - Internet is working fine - When user logs off they get error message: Your roaming user profile was not completely synchronized. See the event log for details or contact administration. - User is logged in on 2 different machines and is working fine. Any new PC that hasn’t got her profile already coming up with above problems Event viewer error says: Windows cannot copy profile from C:\Users\ldalton.301 to \\njs-sr-01\RMNonTeacherProfiles\ldalton.301.V2, you do not have enough disk space. And Windows cannot copy profile from C:\Users\ldalton.301 to \\njs-sr-01\RMNonTeacherProfiles\ldalton.301.V2, you do not have enough disk space. Steps I took so far: Makes sure she's not logged in one any PC Open system properties and go to the advanced tab Click on user profile settings button Delete her profile from the list Delete any old profiles that still exist in the C:\users directory Reset her profile on the RMMC, log her back in and test Outlook I also deleted user with regedit. Dose this makes sense to anyone? Thank you, M

Hi Everyone. Can anyone help please????? I'm curently working on a project that requires me to provide our ldap details to sync with a booking system held externally to get all our users to be able to login. All our current ldap enabled tasks are held within our private network and the settings i can see all point to an internal IP which is our DC. The software wants a different address containing a public IP as it comes in via the web and i'm unsure what it is. I've tried all sorts of combinations from ldap://dc.domain.local:389 to ldaps://dc.domain.local:636. I've even tried our proxy server A record DNS but still top no avail. Any ideas where i might be going wrong? The software comapny says we should heve an external ldap address, but as a techie that didn't originally set it up, I can't find it! Many thanks!!!

Hi, We've got Staff laptops which need offline files available for loading the desktop. Works fine when on the network, and when not connected to any network. However, when they connect to home wireless network, it still tries to synchronise with the server. Have looked at group policy admin>network>offline files settings, but can't seem to work out why it is still doing this. Any ideas? Incidentally, if I disable offline files, it just doesn't load any desktop when not connected, and comes up with a "server not available" error message.

Hey folks, first post! I've been asked to look at smartphones for the SLT which will synchronise calendars, contacts, email etc with a Zimbra server hosted by the LEA. Does anybody have any recommendations? The Headteacher bought an HTC Hero to try out, but I couldn't get that to sync with Outlook without going through Google Calendar first; Obviously not an ideal solution. Is my only solution to have the SLT on Outlook to use Zimbra, and for them to all have Windows Mobile devices? I have one myself (Touch Diamond 2) and am confident that, as long as Zimbra worked well with Outlook, that Outlook would work well with Windows Mobile. I'm just trying to cut out the middle man... Outlook is a PITA

Morning everyone, We have ran into a little problem with our Samsung Galaxy phones. Before we use to run all blackberry but now (thankfully) we have moved to android. My problem is that when we had the blackberry's we could see the "other" contacts in our outlook on the blackberry's. Now we have moved we can only see the standard Home, Mobile, Business on our phones. Any ideas how to fix this without going through every contact on around 30 peoples outlook? Rick

Good morning, Many of my users are having a problem whereby any changes they make to their desktop (mainly the files they keep there) are obliterated next time they log on. So they delete filename.doc from the desktop, log off and later log on again, and filename.doc will be restored to their desktop. This is infuriating when they've taken half an hour to tidy up their desktop and the whole gamut of crap is returned as though nothing happened. The only way I've found to fix this is to logon to the server as admin, and delete the files stored in their profile folder there. They have domain logons from XP to a Windows 2003 server, the permissions are correct, they do not use offline files per se, although often take their laptops home where the domain is not available. They often stay logged on for days at a time (possibly longer) just putting their laptop to sleep rather than restarting each day. Any ideas? Google knows nothing. Thanks in advance. -- Simon

Upgraded my Phone (O2 XDA Mini S) to WM6.1 today. It all went well and works a treat Until I came home and tried to resync my Outlook (2007) info back onto my phone - specifically my Contacts.. Unfortunately, WMDC 6.1 (Windows 7 RC1) is refusing to let me sync with Outlook I have tried recreating partnerships, downgrading to WMDC 6 (It just immediately upgrades itself back to 6.1...) all to no avail Have exported my Contacts and will try it on an XP Machine in work tomorrow

We need to copy a lot of large files from windows to AWS S3, we tried Azcopy but through our testing, the network got so saturated due to the bandwidth consumed. after doing a full search we found somehow to do it via the Azcopy command but unfortunately, it was ineffective. we are looking for a reliable way to limit the transfer speed while uploading to S3 to give our data center the space to run smoothly day and night.I know Azcopy is a strong tool but it really takes most of the bandwidth. Thank You

Hi All I'm looking to write a few Powershell scripts for sychronising class and staff groups from SIMS reports exported as CSV into AD security groups. I have examples that seem to work well and are currently in use, however I'm wondering what the best practices are in this area. Especially around performance and identifying changes in group membership. Currently I create a list (array) of all users that should be in the groups based on CSV content, I then create a list of users that are currently in the AD groups and then perform a third pass to add users into the AD groups that aren't in there already. Although this works well I feel the solution isn't very elegant and could have performance issues once groups begin to reach large numbers of members. I'm wondering whether it's better to just delete all members from each AD group when the script runs and to then just add people back in if they're in the CSV. This eliminates the need of doing multiples passes of the data set as well as scraps needing to compare current and perspective group members. Would you recommend either of these approaches or is there another (more standardised) method of maintaining group membership based on a CSV export I haven't considered? Thanks in advance Ryan

We’ve decided to move away from our LEA provided VLE for various reasons, and boldly go forward and create our own. We’ve chosen Moodle for this purpose as it offers us a great deal of flexibility to really tailor the system to our specific needs. Our setup is as follows: Internally we are running a well specified HP server with Windows server 2003 r2. We use Xampp which runs both Apache and MySQL services. Our Moodle MySQL database is setup and managed via phpMyAdmin. Externally we rent a managed webserver from United Hosting. It’s running CentOS which is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. They support Moodle and the associated services and scripts required – It’s running the LAMP environment (Apache, MySQL and PHP) UK Dedicated Server Management Overview - Included Server Management - Initial Server Setup - Ongoing Dedicated Server Maintenance - Server Security and Performance Tweaks Gives an overview of what their managed service provides. After a little troubleshooting which boiled down to correcting the variables in the hosted config.php file, we successfully migrated our internal Moodle data to the hosted system and from that perspective, it’s all functioning as expected. Now, this is where it gets interesting.. At the moment, our web based Moodle is sitting idle, in maintenance mode ready for when we are in a position to fully use it. We’re currently running with our internal system and looking forward to offering staff and pupils online access from home. Users will access our internal moodle via a shortcut to the server. From home, via a web address. These of course point to two separate systems. We require two way real time (or as close as possible) synchronisation/replication between our two moodle servers. In additional to the realtime MySQL database replication we also need to ensure relevant moodle files (moodledata and htdocs\moodle) are also kept in sync. If a pupil uploads some homework onto the hosted web version, we need that to also show on our internal system (and vice versa). We’ve gone with this setup as it provides great internal access speeds, pupil/staff home access over the web, redundancy and resilience. The support we are receiving from our hosting company is very good but I’d like to gain additional perspective, ideas and help on this technical challenge. It’s a very new area for us and I would really appreciate some advice, software suggestions etc as to how to achieve this. I’d be very keen to hear from people who are running a similar setup and have experience in this area, are thinking of moving in this direction or just have a good idea. In turn, when we are successfully running our system I would be very happy to share my experiences, provide advice and lessons learned. Thank you all in advance!
