Thanks for your response. I've already checked msconfig for startup entries and services, and I can't find anything I don't recognise (which would have flagged my suspicions anyway). This would be posted as an edit, but I've found the offending app. It's called TempOpen.exe. It's loaded by the user logon script in their AD profile.

Just to be clear, this isn't the "Hide Drives" registry entry; This clears the contents of any window with "C:" in it, including event log entries.

Hi all, We have a Tempus configured server with some custom software of theirs, one piece of which is used to hide references to local drives from text boxes. Any idea what this is called and how to remove it? It's screwing up viewing event logs and installing software on the server. I can see why it would be useful on clients, but it's just overkill for the DC. Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone else hasn't encountered this software too. Check this thread - U3 UMS Firmware - Samsung U Series / F3 - abi>>forums Seems the firmware will need to be updated / downgraded to get it to be recognised as a Mass Storage device. Later revisions prevented it. EDIT: This is not for your device, but similar results may exist. It seems to be endemic to Samsung products.

No more so than if it was in a server, which underneath it all is just a powerful desktop PC with a few more services running. FWIW, however, I'm going to go with another poster above and say RAID 1 will be better. Less complicated recovery in event of a failure, same level of failure protection (one drive failure = ok, two = bad).

My home headphones do the same thing (Plantronic GameCom 780; USB audio). I've not found a workaround aside from what you've suggested, but it's not so much of an issue for me. You say you've set the Activ speakers as default, implying there is also onboard sound in the PC. Have you tried disabling that? Certainly it can be disabled in Device Manager, but there may be a BIOS option too. Unless the USB ports aren't being enumerated properly when the PC boots, it should force the board to be the sound ouput as it's the only one available. Failing that, there may be an issue with the board. We just had the pen electronics and USB hub changed on a new 300 Pro due to a total failure of interactivity.

I have no problem with Orange. I had no problem with O2 either (was with them for several years). In all seriousness, there's rarely anywhere without mobile signal nowerdays unless you're in the middle of nowhere, or in suburbs with a hill between you and the tower. The last time I had no signal, I was walking in the Peak District. And I got plenty of signal on top of the hills!

If you're lucky enough to have Windows 7 on your box, you can drag the title bar of a window to the vertical edge of the monitor to make it take up 50% horizontally. With this, a single widescreen monitor becomes much more productive (and easier to validate the purchase to the budget controller!) It's the biggest feature I miss since swapping from Win7 Eval to Ubuntu Karmic...

Hey folks, first post! I've been asked to look at smartphones for the SLT which will synchronise calendars, contacts, email etc with a Zimbra server hosted by the LEA. Does anybody have any recommendations? The Headteacher bought an HTC Hero to try out, but I couldn't get that to sync with Outlook without going through Google Calendar first; Obviously not an ideal solution. Is my only solution to have the SLT on Outlook to use Zimbra, and for them to all have Windows Mobile devices? I have one myself (Touch Diamond 2) and am confident that, as long as Zimbra worked well with Outlook, that Outlook would work well with Windows Mobile. I'm just trying to cut out the middle man... Outlook is a PITA
