About TomStanley

  1. Hi everyone, Hope you can help. Our school is looking for some sort of simple survey application to monitor student responses to teacher questions - say for example a teacher has a quick question to ask one of the students, she would input the question into the application and then note down if the student got the answer right. If possible, they would like this to display class photos from SIMS? Anyone got anything remotely similar to the above? Doesn't matter what platform, be it Windows/iPad - they are just wanting some sort of survey/response monitoring service. Thanks, Tom.
  2. Thanks for the info
  3. Thanks for that, we use YHGFL, do you happen to know which ports need to be open?
  4. Hi guys, We are running a 'gaming club' at lunchtime whereby the users can play online games etc. Minecraft is also something that they are wanting but we are having issues through the proxy downloading the 'source files' As a complete newbie to Minecraft, is there any way of downloading an offline installer of Minecraft? Thanks, Tom.
  5. We are trying to load a flash file that would appear on a number of computers when a user double clicks a load file (most likely a batch file) on their machine?
  6. Hi everyone, We are looking for a way of running a SWF file on a remote machine. The idea is that the user will click a shortcut on the desktop, and the file will load up on a remote machine. We have tried PSEXEC with no luck. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks a lot, Tom.
  7. Hi All, Our students are being issued with memory sticks in September, however we were wondering if there was a way of setting up a verison of shadow copies on a memory stick? Or some sort of 'recycle bin' for a memory stick? Many thanks, Tom.
  8. A good way I would do is get the serial number and do an online warranty check with Apple. Then ask the kid when they bought the iPod, and see if it matches with the warranty expiration date.
  9. Show the 'Filename' attribute in the folder - that will add a new list field which shows the correct name of the student.
  10. Hi Andy, There's a policy to change the start menu power button to Log Off here: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\Change Start Menu power button Thanks, Tom
  11. In Windows Vista and above, you also need to delete the profile keys from the registry when you delete the user in Users. A temporary profile is loaded after you log on to a Windows Vista-based system The above link explains more
  12. Can you use the Internet Explorer Maintenance option (in Software Settings, IE Maintenance, Connection, Proxy Settings) to set the proxy instead of using a PAC file? Cheers, Tom
  13. Certain policies would work, but I'd really consider upgrading to Server 08 R2 as that's much more Windows 7 friendly and more secure.
  14. If you're going to Windows 7, Sever 08 R2 is the best option. It uses the same kernel, and is optimised for Windows 7, whereas 08 R1 is mainly for Vista and below. Server 08 R2 also runs a lot more smoother and quicker than 08 R1.
  15. Ahh, I don't think Server 2008 R1 has Power Schemes for Vista and above. That was added in R2, does the scheme for XP and above not work?
