Hi, I saw that someone had to add a 'path' field to a command line or scripted backup to include the Discover DB. Has anyone managed to backup the Discover Database using the Attix5 software SIMS Plugin, and if so did they need to do anything to get it to work, or just add the DISCOVER database name to the SIMS Backup tab ?? Hi all, I need to find a solution for long term data recovery. I use Veeam B&R Ver 9 for Disaster Recovery and short term file level recovery whilst within the individual job retention periods but beyond that I'm stuck. I'm interested to see what other use for this purpose. Ideally I want to to take daily backups of the generic shared areas, staff / student home folders and some other specific areas. I want to keep 12 months of these backups. We're a large school and the global area is 1.5TB in size. I have considered doing a Forever Incremental backup on Veeam with 365 restore points but consider this to be a little risky but the overhead of creating synthetic full backups of full backups along the way is too heavy on resources. Any sugestions welcome. Thanks.

Hey, We have everything but our file storage running as Hyper-V VMs, we do both file backups and VMs backups on and offsite and this works fine, but when it comes to testing backup integrity we have a bit of an issue with the VM backups. Although we can restore the vhd/vhdx files and the config settings from the backups, we can't run them to test the file integrity as it would cause a conflict on the network and domain. How do people get around this? thanks, Josh

After posting on a Symantec forum for help with Backup exec, I changed our backups from full(friday night-over weekend), differentials every weekday (using archive bit), to using the USN journal, modified time. It's still not backing up successfully and the differentials look as if they are trying to do a full backup! The Full backup has a a few errors I'm trying to resolve(missing files, snapshots etc), but > 99% is backed up(2.7 T byte). the original post on the Symantec connect forum :- << Hi, A little stage setting first:- we have Backup exec 2010 R3, running on our backup server (MS Windows server 2008 32bit, 2 intel 3.06Ghz Xeon processors, 2G ram), Full backups transfer rate varies between typically 450-1,800MB/min, to a ESATA connected WD My Book Essential (wdbacw0030hbk-01 3TByte drive). Unfortunately due to the length of time backups take(full backup off all our servers takes all weekend!), we've elected to do differential backups every weekday overnight. The BIG problem is the differential backup of our main fileserver is very slow 20-50MB/min. I've had a look at the backup logs and one obvious issue seems to be the very large numbers of folders its backing up, for example:- Byte count : 12,697,968,916 bytesRate : 31.00 MB/Min Files : 116,528 Directories : 1,326,746 Skipped files : 0 Corrupt files : 0 Files in use : 0 Q.How come the directory count is way higher than the file count? Any insight into the issue would be great, Thank you! >>End of Symantec posting. At first I thought Sophos anti-virus scheduled AV scans were changing the USN journal modified time so after reading a Sophos article ( search for 43898 USN Change Journal And Sophos), I changed a few registry values and though I might be in with a chance. No such luck, Mondays differential is still taking till Wednesday to complete! Has anyone come across similar issues? and know of any workarounds? Many thanks for any input! MrRubbs.

We need to copy a lot of large files from windows to AWS S3, we tried Azcopy but through our testing, the network got so saturated due to the bandwidth consumed. after doing a full search we found somehow to do it via the Azcopy command but unfortunately, it was ineffective. we are looking for a reliable way to limit the transfer speed while uploading to S3 to give our data center the space to run smoothly day and night.I know Azcopy is a strong tool but it really takes most of the bandwidth. Thank You

Trying to figure out where to backup our company's Office 365. (to another cloud or to on prem) What things should I consider when choosing a destination to backup my O365? If to cloud, why? If to on prem, why? Wondering what other people mostly do. Thanks in advance.

Hello, again! I plan to create a system image backup for every computer (Documents/Pictures/etc are already on the server), so I entered the testing phase with a laptop first, to see if it works as intended. On the laptop I have no redirected folders, so that I may use it at any of the locations we have without needing to be connected to the network. I started using the Windows 7 Backup and Restore utility, and it works like a charm. However, if instead of clicking only the documents and libraries of my user account, I click a system image backup, all bets are off. Every time I backup the system image, my computer is the only one in the entire domain that can get any access to the network. Granted, we do have a slow network (100baseT, which I am trying to get the people with the money to change), but it shouldn't shut down all communication with every other machine. So, for you all I have two questions: 1) If this is not working as intended, and isn't just the fault of a slow network, how do I fix it? (Keep in mind, it works fine if I back up everything else, just not if I do a system image.) 2) If it is just a slow network, how do I limit my computer to take up only a certain amount of throughput? Thanks.

Yea, I know, questions like this get asked periodically, but I am not looking for software solutions as much as I am interested in hearing strategies. Have improvements in cloud storage changed your thinking? Do you go directly from server to cloud? Use a periodic VM snapshot as a backup? Copy snapshots to the cloud? Anyone still using tape in the process? Does cloud take the place of other types of offsite storage? Hopefully this thread will be OK here. Looking for a good place to start this conversation. Hoping for some input on establishing some "best practices" guidelines for our organization. Trying to come up with an orderly (and documented) process of who gets the tapes out of the drive in server room, who sends them offsite, how tapes are maintained stored onsite. Currently have an ongoing (nightly) incremental backup to disk, will a full backup to disk, dupe to tape, done every weekend. Anyone have any systems or procedures they use to manage tapes? -- Rotation to offsite storage, how long to retain tapes, what to ship off, what to retain.
