Specifically, has anyone attempted to develop a school management information system using open source? Generally, can anyone flag up what they think the positives and negatives are with regard to open source development?

Hi Everybody,

I'm having a problem with my SQL Driver, I'm trying to do an accounts check on 'Quality System Maintenance', but when I run it, it comes up with this error: When I log onto my predecessors account and run it, it works fine, but only on his account. can anyone help me please to change these details so I don't have to keep switching accounts? Thank you.

We're looking at replacing our old CCTV system with a new IP based sytem, can anybody recommend any suppliers or installation companies in the north west? We're looking at a 32 camera system using indoor and outdoor cameras with motion detection, would prefer low light/night cameras and would need a storage server for the recorded footage.

Hello all, We recently installed System Center 2012 Config Manager to one of our ESX Hosts, with the hope that during our switchover to Win7 in the near future it will take the place of Classlink7 and Sophos. Now, its all running fine. The AD Schema extension went without a hitch (apart from the "I cant look" moment as I hit enter to run it), which may seem helpful to those on the borderline of running the ExtADSch.exe included with SCCM. Now, to business. The client's wont deploy. Either via Push from the Configuration console, or via manual install from the network share. I think it would be easier to list what I have done instead of trying stuff i've done already. - Push does not work. I have added the domain admin in the DCOM configuration for remote launching & access. No joy. - Client installs over network share if done manually, but System Center does not pick it up. The logs yield something about its failiure to register with the system. I can try and post some of the offending log tomorrow. - All MS' TechNet setup guides and checklists have been followed to the word.

I want to get a wireless surround system that has 5 speakers wireless but cannot find one, anyone get any ideas of where you can get one / or how much one would cost ? Thanks EaglesNerd

Hi, Does anyone use / can anyone recommended some free/opensource/etc purchase order systems that they use please? I'm looking to move all my ordering processes to a paper-less system, preferrably web-based, but I'm not too fussed if it was client-based. I have a mysql server, so would be good if the database could go on there... Just fed up with all the paper generated here! Thanks

Hi guys/gals, Got a question for all of you. I'm looking at replacing our current wireless system (3Com), to a newer system and want to know what you guys are using, what problems you've had and what successes. The things that I'd be looking at is the following: 1. AD/LDAP authentication 2. Multiple SSID's 3. N standard, preferable dual (both the 2.4GHz & the 5GHz) 4. Easy to maintain (both administration and upgrading of firmware, etc) 5. Of course centrally managed. 6. Scalable 7. Support QoS I'm looking into Ruckus, and will be looking into Aruba, any others out there worth a look? -Ken

We are looking to replace our ageing Meru wireless system, comprising 1 x MC1500 controller and 10 x Access points. Has anyone gone through the same process recently and would recommend a suitable wireless manufacturer? Many thanks.

Hi, I'm relatively new to posting here, so forgive me if I'm in the wrong place... We're currently looking at a company called Eastern Telephones to supply and install an Aastra telephone system throughout our School. Has anyone ever used this company / phone system before? If so what are your opinions? Thanks

Hey All, Our music department uses Logic Pro. I recently had cause to rebuild a Mac using deployment studio. Everything went fine and if I logon as gadmin all works well. However, if I logon as any other user the icon for Logic Pro is different on the dock and in applications (looks like a blank piece of paper with a pair of compasses in the bottom right corner - not showing a "no entry sign") and the app just won't run - it bounces three times then stops. I'm assuming that it's a permissions issue seeing as the app works fine under one user and no others. If I check the rights to the app it is set for gadmin read and write, admins read only and everyone read only. If I check apps that do work under other users the rights are System read and write with two groups "wheel" (no idea what that is) and everyone set to read only. I don't know if this really is the problem but it sounds logical - problem is I don't know how to add "System" to the rights list as it doesn't appear under the local users list to be added from. Any suggestions? MAC OS is Sierra TIA Mark P.

Hi. Firstly, I'd just like to congratulate Nick on creating such a fantastic system, and sharing it with everyone. We've only started using it this school term, and everyone's saying how great it is. These forums have also helped with some of the problems we've faced. However, there seems to be a problem with the booking system for staff members. When a domain admin books a room, they get a calendar event sent to them, and the booking is shown in the grid. If a 'normal' staff member books a room, it doesn't send an email or show on the grid. It does, though, get logged in ~/App_Data/Bookings.xml with a lesson of 'null'. Although we're not currently booking rooms, it would be a nice feature to get working. I'm fairly sure that everything else is correct. Thanks.

Hi Guys, Could you please try to help me to swap the tables orders in BOOKING PAGE? I mean, today we have [Room_name](y axys) vs [Date_time](x axys), how do i swap this order to the opposite, like [Room_name](x axys) vs [Date_time](y axys)? I need this change because in my case here i have much more time slots than rooms, and the layout and pagination became weird... =S I did a few changes, and also translated a few things to PT_BR, but i dont have enought knowledge to swap the tables inside the models . Please help me!

Hi all - this is my first post in a forum so please excuse my amateur approach, but I need help! A teacher has asked me (as the IT Technician) to create an online database of some sort, which will allow students who study years 7-9 Physical Education to update self-assessed records of their personal sporting achievments. Ideally he would like it to be as easy as possible for the kids to use, as they will need to add data a few times a year over the course of a couple of years. We also need to ensure that the students cannot see/edit each others data (which rules out a collabarative spreadsheet). We are running a Sharepoint (services 2003) VLE and it would be really handy to develop a solution in conjunction with this, as it would integrate AD logins etc. and make authentication a whole lot easier. In a perfect world, a student would login to the VLE, go to a form, enter their data, click submit and it would be added on to their individual record (which only they and their teacher could see). The teacher would then recieve an automated alert telling them who has/hasn't completed their records and he/see could also see a summary of all records. I'd really appreciate some help/ideas with this! Can it be done? Thanks, Tom

I have searched the forums and seen some good suggestions for booking (Devizes, MRBS, another thread). I am limited with what I can implement though. The school uses the Kaleidos Learning Platform, which I think will provide the best place to do this. I will initially only want one piece of equipment available for booking, but eventually for more to be added. I can share an excel or word file from the document library of the LP. A form could be created in a webpart and (I think) linked to a list (that looks like it is controlled by access). I'm not too sure what option to choose though. Use Excel to enable teachers to book equipment, or to figure out how to use the built in access / form webpart combo. I'm not a technician, just another teacher. If I was to keep this simple for me, I would just share a word document that has a calendar where teachers can put the relevant information. Is there a better way, though, with what is available to me?
