Having a bit of a panic attack while trying to sort this one. Renamed a user who either got married or divorced over the summer, and it's something I've done numerous times without issue but this time after the rename, they can't access their OneDrive and I get "Error trying to get OneDrive settings" if I try to access it via 365 admin. I've gone into SharePoint admin and verified that their personal folder still exists as far as that tells me but if I try to access the personal folder, I get "404 FILE NOT FOUND". I've tried renaming the user back but it's not changing the account name or personal site URL back and I've tried removing the OneDrive licence and adding it back in. Reason for the panic attack? We have no backups of any of our 365 tenant anymore. We did have Barracuda until January of this year where the trust stopped paying for it because it was deemed "too expensive" and there hasn't been any budget to buy any sort of replacement for it. We did also have access to our backup archive until yesterday when they'd sent an email informing us that we'd be losing it all. So you can imagine how I might be feeling right around now. 😢

Hi I would interested to hearing primary schools experience in using the M365 platform in the classroom?

Excluding any hub associations, could I please ask how other schools are designing their SharePoints. I have set up separate SharePoint sites for curriculum subjects (Maths, English etc), but was curious about the administration side. We have an Admin Portal network drive and I could replicate this with an Administration site with sub folders for say "Catering", "Facilities", "Admissions", or is the best option to separate these into sites too?

So I've been asked to see if we can hold any email sent overnight to dissuade people from feeling like they don't have to reply to the email straight away. I can find a solution if everyone was using Outlook Desktop client but most staff are using OWA or collecting it on an iPad. My initial Googling of the issue suggests that its a function of the email client and while its built into to Google's offering I can't find a way to achieve it on Office365. Has anyone achieved this or does this need to be pushed back as an 'Organisational Culture' issue? Thank in advance

Now that the new Cyber Essentials question set is requiring technical controls on BYOD device access to college resources, we're starting to test conditional access policies and compliance policies to achieve this. We've got a conditional access policy set up (scoped to just me as I'm testing at the moment) which should block noncompliant devices from accessing Microsoft 365, and an accompanying compliance policy that requires a minimum OS version (Android in my case). I've registered my device using Microsoft Authenticator (didn't know it could do that, but apparently it can) and verified in the Entra ID backend that the device exists in Entra and is correctly showing as a personally owned registered device. However when accessing the Outlook web app, I'm still getting blocked, and when I check the "Troubleshooting details" section it says my device is unregistered. How do I get it to recognise the device registration and let me in? Also, before I registered my device, it was doing the same thing - how do I get it to prompt me to register instead of just blocking?

We’re currently reviewing our staff leavers process. One of the suggestions that leadership has come up with is, when a staff member leaves, could we move their email address (note: NOT their mailbox) to another mailbox which has an autoreply set on it telling people this person no longer works for us? Our accounts are on-premise AD accounts with mailboxes in Exchange Online, synced via Azure AD Connect, so this doesn’t seem as straightforward as I might otherwise have thought. Does anyone know how long we have to wait between removing the email address and proxyAddress from the source AD account, before it can be added to the proxyAddresses in the destination AD account? Or, is there a different way we should be thinking about this?

I can't believe I've never noticed this before - but someone has just pointed it out... In Class Teams > Class Notebook, if a student inserts a file to a page, and opts to 'Upload to OneDrive and Insert link' the following happens: The file is uploaded to a folder in the Team's Document library (and not OneDrive) at all Permission to this file are set individually - inheritance is broken EVERYONE in the Team (owners and members) are granted edit rights to that file This is madness - why have a system which provides secure sections within the Notebook, and then grant full rights to linked attachments to the world and its mother? Here's a quick demo of what I mean - I can confirm that other students have full edit rights to this file. Has anyone else noticed this? What do you do about it? Have I missed a setting somewhere? Thoughts appreciated.

Hi, we use Acronis Cyber protect to backup Microsoft 365 tenant, including OneDrive, Email and Teams. However we are seeing almost our data doubled in the backgrounds when we look at the Teams backups and wondered if anyone else had experienced this? We have tried to get this looked at by Acronis, but the customer servers has not been the greatest.

Hi, I am currently looking at rolling out Microsoft 365 Apps across a school. However, I have come across two issues to do with licensing which have stumped me. 1) We have A1 licencing for students which has the issue of only being able to be activated on about 5 devices. This obviously won't work for students as they will log in to multiple computers and as soon as that limit is reached, office will no longer be licenced for that user. 2) We also have accounts that have no access to the internet for various reasons. This means that they cannot get any licences as 365 Apps needs the internet to pull the user licenses. The licencing for different versions of Microsoft products is very confusing and I would appreciate any ideas on how to get around these issues. Thanks

Hi, Does anyone know if mail merge is available in the ‘online’ version of Office 365, as a member of staff can’t find it and I can’t see it either? Thanks in advance.

Hi, How is the education licensing designed for this? I have heard mixed things. One reseller mentioned you had to buy licences for staff and pupils, and then i read that you only need to licence all staff. I am a bit confused....any licence experts out there? Do you have to have OVS? Thanks

Hello, We seem to have a major issue at the moment where students are sending emails to teachers (because they know they can do it) and it's causing teachers to receive so many emails that aren't relevant. Is there a way that it can be restricted in anyway so that we can manage it properly? I know it sounds ridiculous! Students and teachers are on the same domain. We're using Microsoft Office 365 Thanks, Sam

Is it possible to disable the online Word, Excel PowerPoint apps for certain users as part of 365 A1 Plus? I’ve unchecked most non-essential apps on the license for test user including unticking ‘Office for the Web for Education’ but this doesn’t do anything.

Currently our users can change their profile pictures on Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook etc). Do any schools set students' profile pictures to their school photos, or is this opening a can of worms? Otherwise I will just set to remove all or replace with logo icon.

Hi All I am looking for advice. I have 2 schools that share the same building and have 1 shared IT suite with 1 server between them. At present I use AD and NTFS to separate files and folders so each school can only see their own stuff, however each school wish to purchase a Microsoft 365 tenant northumberland.school1.org.uk and cumbria.school2.org.uk. my issues is they use the same pc's so how do i hook them up to two different tenants. i wondered if they could be hybrid networks with newcastle.org.uk as the top level domain and northumberland.school1.newcastle.org.uk as sub domain and cumbria.school2.newcastle.org.uk as subdomain2, my problem with this is i don't know if they could login with [email protected] or would it have to be [email protected]. the PC's would be joined to the newcastle.org.uk domain and pick up group policy from that. or is there a better option maybe without hybrid domains. anyone any ideas please. i have been given 5 days to configure everything from when we start and they would like to start Friday I want to leave it a while. thanks ian
