Hi all, We are currently having a Senso trial for classroom management and safeguarding, not that impressed with the remote management side of it and policy you apply to the machine can be removed by restarting the computer, but the safeguarding seems to work ok. I have previously used ABtutor and found the remote side of that ok and keyword reporting was ok. We are a Windows and Chromebook school So I am wondering if you have any recommendations for classroom management and what you currently use? Thanks

I We have old and new ipads in our school, all old ones are supervised with Apple Configurator 2 and controlled with Meraki. We are now trying to move forward with the new ones with Classroom and ASM. The 25 are all shared picked up our ASM and installed the apps from Meraki. The problem we are having now is that the restriction profile and ASM profile will not install on the ipads.

Hi all. New member of staff is demanding something akin to AB Tutor or RM Tutor (same core????), which i have used in the past, but, as per the title, we're a BYOD school running a windows teacher environment, and a 95% macbook student environment. (Don't ask why, I gave up trying to figure that one out within 3 weeks of getting here) Question is, does such a thing exist. Some like Netop, and Net Support School, do have iOS, OSX clients etc, but this only works if you can admin the student machines and make sure they are running the client. In a BYOD school, we have no ability to admin the students personal devices. Is there something out there that my google foo has so far failed to find. Cheers

Hello, we are running Impero 4.1.11 and have come across a strange issue in one of the classrooms. The teacher can log into the Impero console and see the classroom and that the computers are "on" but when trying to remote in or view "Live Thumbnails" it just says connecting. Its strange as I when I run impero console on a server (2012) I have no issues viewing the screens. I have submitted this to Impero support but was wondering if anyone here has had a similar issue? The classroom is running Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64bit with update 1. Thank you, William

Hi All, After some advice if anyone has seen the same issues as we are experiencing, after securing senso for our secondary school, the computing teachers are stating it's unusable to broadcast due to slow speeds/lagging. We have opened all ports etc, but there is still a considerable lag when you start a broadcast, and then during the broadcast. Has anyone seen this before and any advise will be gratefully received

Hi, Our teachers are asking for classroom management software, primarily to view screens and block internet access. We used to be 1:1 iPads which meant they could easily see the screens or ask them to close the screens, but now with 1:1 Surfaces there's a screen in-between the student and the teacher so they need some help. I've been looking at a bunch of different ones and half seem to be stuck in the era where you had labs of desktops, they are tied to the idea of rooms and computers, not users and classes. So having solid sync from my SIS (CSV upload is fine) is a hard requirement. Single-sign on through Azure AD would be nice but not essential. We're on-campus (no covid here for 7 months) but remote support is a nice to have.. I don't mind if it's cloud or not, but if it's cloud it better not be routing all my traffic through Europe or the US (I'm in Australia). The candidates I've found so far are Lanschool Classic (not the cloud one, that only has Google Classroom and Clever sync, neither of which we have), Dyknow (seems expensive), senso.cloud, Impero and Faronics Insight. Maybe Net-Ref, but their website is super basic. I looked at Veyon (stuck in room/computer model), AbTutor (same), NetSupport School, NetControl 2, SchoolVue which all didn't seem to do what I want, happy to be corrected though. What are you using and do you recommend it? We have 1200 students in the senior school. TBH I'm looking for an alternative to Classwize by Family Zone, since I don't want to buy their web filter as well. So being able to show which websites a student is using would be nice but not essential (since our current web filter can do that too, it can also block individual students' internet but not a class at a time). Thanks, James

Hi Not sure if any has had any experience of this. If I individually install Remote learning onto a PC then I can choose for it to have a room location. If i send the install out for the Server all computers are put into the Room EVAL - While this is not a problem for Staff in the classroom the Tech Console then had no structure to it. I have tried modifing the Client setting with no luck and to try and change this on the tech Console I am unable to find where It is. Does any one know how to change the Location of the PC once it has been installed or during a server install. (I dont want to go round to 500 machines and do it manually!!!) Ta in advance

Hi, I am investigating the use of classroom management software for 1:1 devices in a Secondary setting. New Year 7 will have a Windows 10 Surface Device, which they will buy through a school scheme, so we will be able to install our software onto the device. We will have Microsoft Teams SDS set up so should be able to create Teams etc from that. Has anyone had success with any providers of this kind of software (that offers Lock/Unlock, Thumbnails, Open apps/web etc). I have slight concerns that it will be difficult to ensure teachers do not accidentally manage devices they shouldn't be managing at the time (they will only have access to their classes, but obviously in secondary, the pupil will have many teachers in a day, all of whom will have the device management). It would be nice to be able to specify a calendar of when teachers have access to their pupils devices. Thanks very much for any help or advice!

Over summer we upgraded from windows 7 to 10. We had net support installed on the windows 7 machines and as far as we know we installed it the same way on the windows 10 machines - only issue is that no one knows how it was installed last time because the staff that were here have forgotten. One person thinks that there is a server-side component as well as the typical master/slave components installed on the client PCs but I have not once seen anything on any of the servers that suggests there is a server component and I cannot find reference to it anyway in the limited docs still around for our version. The symptoms appear to be that if you logon as a member of staff you can usually view some of the PCs set to be in the same room as the machine you are on, but not all of them - but they are all in the same OU on AD. We thought this was an issue with our version of net support so I tried installing veyon, this seems to have different symptoms on different PCs. Unlike net support I cannot do local discovery at all - even PCs that are on the same subnet. However unlike net support if I specify an IP/hostname to connect to it does so instantly. For this reason all of us are scratching our head: At first we thought it could be a VLAN issue with netsupport but the ability for veyon to connect disputes this. The DHCP and subnets have been completely changed to rule out any sort of routing issue. Although windows 7 does not display everything properly we even shoved veyon onto some old laptops and they seem to be able to connect fine. I'm sure it is something really simple but I have to admit I am running out of ideas.

Dear colleagues, I´d like to place a question specifically regarding your experience with language labs. At the moment, our school can buy system of classroom management and language labs from two providers - Sanako and Roycan. Do some of you have experience with any of them, or (ideally!) both (so you could even offer a comparison from your point of view?). I pretty much know both solutions from the promo materials, but as you know, those can´t guarantee the right information regarding real usage of them. So if anyone could share with me any kind of relevant experience, I would be very thankful. If you are using Robotel, I will also appreciate any information/feeling about it. We don´t have a concrete offer from them, but if it showed up better in comparison to the aforementioned two, maybe we could consider it as well. Specifically we haven´t decided which particular solution of which provider to choose (if it should be Lab100, Study1200 by Sanako or Optimas Premium/Portable/University or anything else from Roycan - so the information you would give me can be even quite general - I will welcome any of them. Thanks for any hints, best regards, Ondrej Bradac

We run workshops or labs for our customers and am interested to know what is used in the education space ... I haven't been in the education industry for quite some time, but I thought I would come here to ask the question. Essentially we want an easy to manage service (cloud preferred, but will host ourselves if necessary). Some of the features we are looking for: - ability to deploying workshops/labs (I guess like a classroom) - schedule deployment to start and end at specific dates (vm's are stopped and destroyed when workshop/lab is over) - ability to send invites to participants so they can access their desktop (which they will use for the duration of the workshop) - ability to easily manage custom images of the desktop (with our own custom software installed) - control/lock down desktop for participants - instructor remote access to assist participants - vm's are kept secure and up to date with updates/patches etc. I figure these sort of things would be bread and butter in the classroom/education space. What tools/services do you use? Do you hand roll yourself? Do you use cloud services like AWS or Azure? Any open source / free tools? Any recommendations would be welcome! thanks!

Hi We used to use the RM Tutor classroom management system which had a feature which allowed students to notify the teacher if they required help by clicking a button on the task bar, and then a notification appeared on the teachers machine. We now use ABTutor, which doesnt have this feature, but I wondered if anyone knew of a stand-alone solution that would give me this ability. Potentially a program that could run on all out machines and link to a tutor machine. We are running Windows 7 on Sever 2003 (hoping to upgrade to Server 2008 very soon) Thanks

Hi all, I run a software development company, and we're looking into the possibility of developing a network/classroom management tool, aiming to provide similar functionalities to existing solutions like LanSchool, Impero, so on and so forth. With this in mind, where do you feel that current, existing, solutions fall short? This could either be in terms of missing features, or a feature that is implemented poorly. We're also particularly interested to hear how you deploy these solutions across your network, and whether you feel this process could be improved? (For example, do you currently use configuration management tools like DSC, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, to ensure that software is installed across your machines, GPO, etc) - which of these would you like to see support for? Nothing is set in stone, but we're currently thinking that use and management by teachers and staff would be done through a web portal, rather than through software installed on their machines - do you see any pitfalls with this idea in your environment? Additionally, what are your thoughts on an on-premises server vs a hosted service in the cloud? We're wondering whether admins will have qualms about data protection issues if a network management service is hosted in the cloud, but we're happy to go that way if the desire is there. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
