We run a pretty tight filter, but let teachers unblock sites themselves by adding them to our LMS, which has an integration with our filter. Best of both worlds.

We do, and it's not necessarily cheaper but could be depending on what your firewall needs are. You do lose some things like seamless Layer 7 firewalling, but the gain in having an education focused filter and a proper firewall is worth it IMHO.

That's what Microsoft have said, but then we need to populate their calendars from the timetable. Which there are tools to do so, but it's just another thing to manage. I'm not sold on the benefit of hooking up the IM platform to the phone system in general, whether it's Teams or Cisco or whatever.

For admin staff Teams chat is beneficial, not so much for teachers. We're looking at Teams phones and one of my big concerns is how to stop teachers' Teams clients ringing while they're in class.

The bit you want is Seamless Single Sign-On.

We've used Cyberhound for years, it's decent. It's due for renewal and we're evaluating Linewize at the moment, it's comparable with some extra features but a fair bit more expensive too. We have Fortinet firewalls and considered getting the web filtering license for them, but we'd rather have an education focused product for filtering.

Hi, Our teachers are asking for classroom management software, primarily to view screens and block internet access. We used to be 1:1 iPads which meant they could easily see the screens or ask them to close the screens, but now with 1:1 Surfaces there's a screen in-between the student and the teacher so they need some help. I've been looking at a bunch of different ones and half seem to be stuck in the era where you had labs of desktops, they are tied to the idea of rooms and computers, not users and classes. So having solid sync from my SIS (CSV upload is fine) is a hard requirement. Single-sign on through Azure AD would be nice but not essential. We're on-campus (no covid here for 7 months) but remote support is a nice to have.. I don't mind if it's cloud or not, but if it's cloud it better not be routing all my traffic through Europe or the US (I'm in Australia). The candidates I've found so far are Lanschool Classic (not the cloud one, that only has Google Classroom and Clever sync, neither of which we have), Dyknow (seems expensive), senso.cloud, Impero and Faronics Insight. Maybe Net-Ref, but their website is super basic. I looked at Veyon (stuck in room/computer model), AbTutor (same), NetSupport School, NetControl 2, SchoolVue which all didn't seem to do what I want, happy to be corrected though. What are you using and do you recommend it? We have 1200 students in the senior school. TBH I'm looking for an alternative to Classwize by Family Zone, since I don't want to buy their web filter as well. So being able to show which websites a student is using would be nice but not essential (since our current web filter can do that too, it can also block individual students' internet but not a class at a time). There's a few vendors that do cloud radius, jumpcloud and fox pass come to mind, but they cost money. People have talked about enabling azure ad domain services and then running nps, but it's not supported. We use airtame for wireless presentation, currently it needs an application, but they're embedding airserver next year, which will give native Miracast, Google Cast and Airplay support. BKGarry, I've sent you a pm about the surface wireless issues.

Google Apps (as it was) was clearly better 5 years ago, but O365 has caught up while G-Suite has remained stagnant.

Hi, I'm a network admin for an independent school in Perth, Western Australia, I've been in my job 9 years. I've seen Edugeek a couple of times but finally signed up because of the Discord server.

We use LibreNMS, the only downside is it's basically all about SNMP, and Windows' SNMP support is pretty woeful these days. But apart from that it's great, I've even had some patches accepted.

Did you get your hands on it? Also Wireshark on a Surface isn't going to be useful for wireless troubleshooting, doing a monitor mode capture on a Mac next to it will give you much more information.
