Has anyone tried using one of the services that refurbish and resell iPhones? Are there any particular recommendations and\or pitfalls, I'm after a refurbed iPhone 7 or 8. Thanks Rob

Hello guys, We are currently using Bromcom's Win-folder for e-reg, we are having problems with our PE department as they need to be able to take reg on the field. WiFi coverage is sorted but its not a good idear to take a 17" laptop in the middle of a muddy field. so we got some of bromcom's useless xpda's but i have had enough of them not working properly. as all of our PE staff have Iphones I thought we could use that, is there "an app for that" or a secret web interface Thanks, Pete,

Anybody else using this: https://www.reflectionapp.com/ Just tried the demo and was frankly amazed. Very simple to install, no app needed for the iphone as just uses airplay and connected to it straight away, even using the camera was pretty much lag free! Be great as a wireless document camera. Certainly cheaper than AppleTVs for each classroom. The demo is only 10mins though so couldn't fully test it, I'll probably get a licence or two and test but just wondered if anybody else using it in classroom? Any known issues etc? Cheers Gaz

Help needed... I have an iPhone and mobile me. At home it works great but I got it to sync my work outlook and contacts to my phone and home as I forget things if not reminded all the time... My pc at school has the software installed but when it tries to connect it can't. I assume it's something to do with the pc being on the schools network. We run server 2003 and on yhgl. Could this be filtering, the Internet access or ??? Any ideas please as I've not heard anything back from our tech guys.

I've been using plusnet mobile for several years without any issues with my iPhone 8. Until a couple of weeks ago when I noticed that I was unable to use mobile data. I can make/receive calls but no data. The phone shows 3G next to the plusnet logo on the top left, where it used to show 4G. When I open an app that requires data it brings up the error "Could not activate mobile data network. Turn on mobile data or use Wi-Fi to access data." It works fine when connected to WiFi. I've tried various things based on recommendations from various google searches such as: Removing and re-inserting the SIM. Force restarting the iphone. Resetting Network Settings. Updating to iOS 15.7. Erasing all content and restoring from backup. Erasing all settings and setting up as a new phone. None of the above has made any difference. I was starting to think that there was something physically wrong with the phone when I tried my Wife's (SMARTY mobile) SIM in the phone and it worked straight away. So I tried contacting Plusnet support who, although being pleasant to talk to, follow a limited script which leads them to say that the phone must be faulty, even though I can prove it works fine with a different provider's SIM. I've run out of ideas so have ordered a Lyca mobile SIM to try. If it works, then great I get data back but I'd still like to know what the reason for it not working with Plusnet is... Any edugeek ideas?

Groupcall Emerge iPad / iPhone / iPod Touch app for MIS access.
vikpaw posted a topic in MIS Systems
I started writing this as a comment to the article linked below, but it got very painful really quickly, especially with no preview, so here it is in it's own thread: OK So initial feedback from showing the BETT video (EduGeek.net - BETT 2010 - Capita and Stone Computers Demo) of the SIMS app to staff and management has been very positive and i've been doing some digging, asking some questions of my account manager (who checked some things with Groupcall) and i thought i'd share the responses for anyone that is interested. Answers have been reworded slightly. I'd like a demo on my phone to test. I was hoping for this at BETT, but it was not offered. Is it possible to try it out? -> Demo link to follow Contact your account manager for info. If i install to my personal handset then decide to leave, can it be remote disabled? -> Each device has a unique installation and can be remotely locked/disabled. Follow up: I'd like for it to auto disable if not synched for x-days. It appears from the settings the different DBs have expiration times but i think that just controls when it next synchs. At secondary pricing I'd need 28 units minimum before it's worth getting a site licence, but i only want to try it out with 1/2/5 initially, how will that work if i later add many more? [secondary: £299 1st device, £99 after that. £2995 site. Primary: £195 1st device, £99 after that. £1995 site.] -> Once a number of individual school licences reach the equivalent of the site licence, the school’s licence will automatically be upgraded to a site licence. [therefore cost is capped.] Follow up: What affect if any is there for a dual Primary/Secondary site, where most of my students are Primary (2/3). Usually new modules require installation / training, at additional cost. What is the hit? -> Training is optional since Emerge is so intuitive. Remote training can be provided if desired. On-line training materials are available and will be sent to existing customers on receipt of payment. Groupcall is in the process of creating a range of training videos I'd like the nurses to have access too. When will medical / behaviour be available? -> A number of profiles are currently available, however we can add / create bespoke profiles as requested. The additional of medical information is available now. Groupcall intends to add the facility to write back behaviour information in the next release (due April 11) Assessment information is currently under review, and we’re hopeful that it’ll be added before the new academic year (Sept 11), however this is yet to be specified or confirmed. Can one device be used with multiple logins, i.e. I can have a shared iPad for Heads of Year to use? -> Yes it is possible to set this up using the Emerge management console which will be installed for the school to manage. Any idea on timeframe for other devices i.e. Android, Nokia, etc. -> Not defined yet - but hopefully an Android app will be available in the next few months, followed by WM& and then Java. ============================ Further queries and thoughts posed: iPod Touch 4 is currently around £150 here for an 8GB. I think 3rd gen is cheaper still. Will it work on that? Is the pricing annual? Or is there an on going cost? The demo, appeared to have a limit of around 50 students on a search, but i may be wrong. When searching it finds the character / combo in any part of the name, so 'al' returns 'sally' and 'wallis'. That could be a limitation for me! Can it access UDGs so when used for a school trip all info is in one list? Any recommendations on management software to lock down usage of the devices? On this i'm thinking one of the synch charge cases / racks seen at BETT2011 would do the job. They could all be restored from backup to prevent rubbish being downloaded. Any useful apps though could be added for all. I'll be looking at other threads regarding this, as i'm sure it'll be an issue when kids get given iPads; dont want them playing Angry Birds! Evening, I've had a bit of a palaver this weekend. My iPhone updated to 3.1.3 OS but my phone was jailbroken and unlocked so it wiped this out. 3.1.3 OS also updates the baseband so I was in real trouble. I spent ages downgrading to 3.0 OS, flying round the internet working out how to downgrade the baseband which I managed to do with a version of Fuzzyband not on Cydia yet (had to manually insert files using iPhone Explorer). Then upgraded to 3.1.2 using a activated custom image (bypassing all errors with a bit of software)and unlocked with UltraSn0w. Now my iPhone won't sync with my applications on iTunes and if I add an application on the phone through AppStore, they just get wiped off when I try and sync with iTunes. When I tick all the applications I want to sync, they just untick again after syncing is complete. Can anyone help?! Thanks Scott

I am looking at upgrading from current phone in october when my contract runs out. I am torn between the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S5. If anyone can give me any advice on either phones that would nudge me more towards buying. I know the iPhone 6 isn't out yet but I imagine it will just be very similar to the 5s with some improvements and of course the larger screen.

Staff access Staffmail on their iPhones. It does not need a password when accessing it other than entering the phone's code first. But I am asked - is there any way to enforce a Staffmail password to access Staffmail after the phones code has been entered.?

Hi there, I've got an iPhone 6 on iOS 11 trying to connect to our guest wireless network & I'm struggling to connect to Google. It's coming up with the 'This Connection Is Not Private' message. I've installed the last RM Certificate onto the phone. I've tried my iPhone 6+ on iOS 11 on the same guest wireless network and getting the same error. Has any one got any ideas on a fix? Kind Regards, iWoodzy

I've currently got an iPhone 3G and was contemplating stick with the 'dark side' and upgrading to an iPhone 4S! I was temped to make the transition to Android (my GF has an Samsung Galaxy Mini S which seems pretty good for a low spec handset). The main problem is that, as far as I can see, there aren't any other handsets out just now that are really catching my eye. Most of the ones with the same price as the Iphone 4S seem to have inferior specs/hardware. I guess there's the Google Nexus Prime which is about to be released but as much as I like the thought of a 1280x720 screen on a phone I'm not sure I'd want a handset as large as 4.6"! Has anyone on here got an iphone 4S yet? Are there any Android handsets that would be worth considering in place of it?

Hi guys I am just wondering if anyone here is having an issue I have been having for the last week or so with Gmail via Exchange on the iPhone/pad that is driving me insane. The long and short of it is, every time I read an email on my phone or iPad from Gmail (both regular and apps flavor) the email is then disappearing when viewing the inbox in a normal browser on a computer. By viewing 'All Mail' in Gmail, the message is there, and is still 'labelled' with Inbox yet it doesn't appear there. It is like it is automatically archiving the message when you read it on the iPhone/iPad but not archiving it properly (not that I want it to be archived!). It is also doing something similar when deleting messages from the iOS client. This never used to happen, it just started happening in the last week or so and it is driving me nuts. I am missing emails, because for example, I read it on my phone during the evening, and the next day at work, I forgot it was there because it has disappeared. I am sure it is something Google have done, as it effects both my devices, had it been just one, I would have thought it was me. I am just curious if any of you are also experiencing this?

Thanks to Jerome Araujo at Microsoft for providing me with these links. One of the advantages of migrating to Live@Edu is that you are able to synchronize your college e-mails with e-mail client applications on your computer such as Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird. You can also access the e-mails from most smart phones such as iPhones, BlackBerrys, Android phones etc…. Instructions on how to do this are available from the following links: For iPhone: Set Up POP or IMAP E-Mail on an Apple iPhone For BlackBerry: Set Up POP or IMAP E-Mail on a BlackBerry Curve For Outlook: Set Up Outlook 2010 for IMAP or POP Access to Your E-Mail Account If the above links don’t apply to you then this link: Generic Settings provides generic instructions that you can use to get the information you will need to put into your phone or mail client.

Recently I acquired an iPod Touch, and one of our other technicians (whom I purchased the Touch from) acquired an iPhone. We've since proved our case to the network manager that they're invaluable network tools, and he's gone and got himself one as well. What we WANTED to know however, was how to use them as VoIP Phones tied to our internal phone system as SLT had made the decision to get rid of the work-mobiles that we all had. Information online for this was sketchy with very little info available. Folks said they'd done it, but no-one really said how... Well, we've sussed it out... so I'm posting it here in case anyone else out there has been looking. We're using the following: - iPhone / iPod Touch on OS3.1.2 connecting to WiFi via internal Trapeze system - Mitel ICP3300 1 - Ensure you have SIP User Licenses available for number of extensions you want to add... see "License and Option Selection" in the Mitel System Administration Tool. 2 - Create a User extension via "User Configuration" in the Mitel System Administration Tool. Fill all fields in as normal. Set Device Type to "Generic SIP Phone", and set and confirm the "Login Pin" 3 - Download "iSipSimple" from the iTunes AppStore, and transfer to your iPhone or iPod Touch (NB: iPod Touch requires headphones & mic, wired or bluetooth) 4 - Connect to your WiFi connection. Note, Mitel ICP3300 needs to be accessible from this WiFi connection. Use PingLite from Appstore to see if you can ping the ICP3300's IP address from your device. If not, start looking at your infrastructure and routing tables etc - sorting that out is beyond the scope of this post. 5 - Open "iSipSimple", head to "Settings" page, and make sure "RFC3605 Support" is set to ON (otherwise you get patchy audio with frequent dropouts) 6 - Go to "Accounts" page, click "Edit", then "Add new SIP account". 7 - Select "Other SIP Provider" 8 - Set account details as follows... Display Name: telephone-extension-number Domain: IP Address (or resolvable DNS) of ICP3300 Username: telephone-extension-number Password: login-pin Click "Advanced" and set as follows Auth Username: telephone-extension-number Voicemail Number: whatever number you dial on your system to reach voicemail Phone Number: telephone-extension-number [the above settings are the same if you're using X-Lite PC Softphone client with Mitel also] Leave all other settings as standard. Click "Sip Accounts" in top left corner. Click "Save" in top right corner. Click "Account Manager" in top left corner. Your account should be listed alongside an ON/OFF switch. Turn it ON. Once it's connected, the text should become green. Done! Head to the "Dialer" page. You can now be reached on the extension number you programmed, and can make calls to any other internal extension, or to standard numbers, all via your Mitel ICP3300. NOTE: This only functions when iSipSimple is open on your iPhone / iPod. As soon as you close iSip and head to your homepage, you will no longer be reachable. If you want the client to run in the background, you will need a jailbroken iPhone or iPod running Cydia's Backgrounder app. If you have this, then open iSip, turn your account on, and then hold the HOME key until "Backgrounding Enabled" appears on screen. iSip now remains running in background while you work in other apps on your device. This tutorial only covers connectivity using WiFi LAN, where the ICP3300 is connected to the same LAN. For connection from anywhere via internet, again, you'd need a jailbroken device as Apple have disabled using VoIP via the 3G-Broadband connection. Your Mitel would also need to be accessible via the internet so relevant ports would need to be opened and forwarded to the ICP3300 on your company's router. To avoid having to use a JailBroken device, you can pay for "iSip with Push" from the AppStore, but your Mitel ICP3300 MUST be accessible via the internet for the push notifications to work... even if you only intend to use your device on the local network. Hope this helps some of you...!

Hi Wondering if anyones got any ideas, we have numerous io 7 devices and we can't seem to download apps in school anymore. We can search the store, find the app, sign in and click install. The app then shoots the the main screen as expected but then hangs on the downloading icon, this also happens when trying to re download apps in school. Has anyone got any ideas? I wasn't sure if it was a port issue or something? We do use a proxy server though RM's broadband I've contacted them but they don't seem sure. Thanks Steve
